Pros: nice look, decent size trunk

The Bottom Line: Buying a Sunfire is akin to buying yourself a ticket to hell. Save yourself the money and buy something more reliable instead.

Dear Sunfire GT, Oh little Sunfire GT, youíve foiled me again! How many times am I going to see that dreaded check engine light? Twice a year is a little much, donít you think? Iím good to you. I am. I always get your oil changed. I keep your ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: economy, handling, performance, comfortable interior, trunk space, durability
Cons: I can't think of any
The Bottom Line: I have had less trouble with this car than friends who have newer, more expensive cars.

This car has been great to me. I bought the car used in 2002 for $ 2,800, with about 100,000 miles on it. I bought it because I was impressed with the look, condition and handling of the car. I've always taken the best care of it, and it's been great to ... read more

My Review

by
Nov 22, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty, Fun to drive, dependable with good mx, nice power, comfy, relatively easy-t-operform maintenance.
Cons: Suffers from the normal Pontiac flaws like window motors that don't last and rattling gas-cap.
The Bottom Line: Yes but only if you're not a dolt and can follow maintenance recommendations. I love this car. (Get the extended warranty though, you'd be stupid not too.)

You know, probably around 90% of the reviews you'll ever read about a vehicle on the net are by people who aren't happy with their purchase. If you don't have problems, you don't go shouting to everyone. Anyways, I was in an accident and was forced ... read more

by
Jun 6, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice looks, fast car
Cons: Everything else
The Bottom Line: Not a good car. Plagued with problems, noises, and things that break while you're driving.

I bought a used 1997 Sunfire and expected a few problems, but its stylish good looks sold me over. As I have seen from other reviews, I was one of the lucky ones since the problems started more than 6 months after I bought it. First, the shock ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Styling, 2.4L engine
Cons: Styling, 2.4L AND 2.2L engine, transmission, suspension, chassis, etc..
The Bottom Line: If you have one in working condition, GET RID OF IT AS A TRADE IN OR PRIVATE SELLER while you still can.

I got my car new when I was 16 years old. On paper, it looked wonderful. 150hp, 155 ft-lb of torque, with a 5 spd transmission. I broke the engine in correctly, and really enjoyed it. I kept the car completely stock for about the first 30,000 miles. ... read more

Pros: reliable as a pet rock
Cons: no excuse for trading it in!
The Bottom Line: With the 2.2 and manual trans, it's noisy but unbreakable. Solid transportation

I bought this car for my kids when they were attending college, for simple, inexpensive, and warranteed transportation to and from school, and considered the car as a throw away expendable. It is a 2.2 coupe with 5 speed, A/C, C/D, wing and locks, for ... read more

Pros: economical, economical, and kinda sporty too
Cons: brakes....brakes.....brakes.....
The Bottom Line: Perfect car for a first brand new car as it was for me. Very little money to drive and maintain. Not for families...not too roomy in the back seat.

I purchased 1997 pontiac sunfire SE coupe brand new in 3/97. I chose this vehicle as it was in my price range (I think I paid 13K - only a few extras), and it was still sporty looking. Before I purchased, I did read Consumer Reports where they ... read more
