Quality, economical and fun with potential loads of space!

by privatedog

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great quality with a great ride. Handles so many different situations very well.
Cons: Highway passing power, tight legroom for adults in back.
The Bottom Line: This isnt an Echo, nor is it a Tundra. It's a specialized vehicle that fits a lot of different niches in a quality package. You might fall in love.

Owned this car since January 97 and haven't regretted it one bit! I presently have 128000 Kilometers on it. Exterior parts/finish: The paint of my 4dr RAV is sequoia green and has held up very well for 7 years of ownership. The odd nick or ding ...

Sep 03 '00 - Updated Jun 07 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: High Resale Value, Good Looks, Handling
Cons: Weak engine, poor gas mileage, no armrests
The Bottom Line: Though a bit overpriced and underpowered, the RAV is a nice overall package perfect for small families and young drivers.

Two weeks ago, my roommate replaced her ailing 1995 Mazda 626 with a '97 Toyota Rav-4. After more than 1,000 miles, I can say that, overall, I am impressed by Toyota's freshman foray into the small sports-ute market.

Pros: Economical, practical, fun, reliable
Cons: underpowered, noisy

We have owned our 1997 2-door 5-speed 4WD RAV4 for nearly 4 years and over 72,000 miles. In that time, it has proved itself to be reliable, economical, practical, and a lot of fun to drive.

We bought the RAV4 for our family of three to be...

Pros: Handles well, fun to drive, reasonably practical

I owned my RAV/4 for close to three years before recently replacing it. I was originally looking for something that would be reasonably practical while still being fun to drive on my relatively lengthy commute. The RAV/4 was an excellent choice.

Mar 28 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun to drive, good handling, decent amount of cargo space
Cons: not much pickup, failed rollover test
The Bottom Line: Worth your time to give it a try.

When looking for a mini-SUV, this was one of my top choices. I test drove a few, and they were fun to drive, have good maintenance records, and an adequate amount of cargo space for their class. They also get good gas mileage for an SUV, but they don't...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Size, full time 4-wheel drive, cargo area, safety features
Cons: Not a high-powered vehicle

I was looking for an SUV, and after having rented Jeep Cherokees, I was sure I wanted one a bit smaller, since I am short and I really didn't need the space of the larger SUV. At the Toyota dealership, the RAV4 was the first one I looked at, and fell in...

Pros: Responsiveness, great gas mileage, intelligent cargo arrangement, good ride
Cons: interior noise, sensitive paint, needs better cup holders!

I am a glass artist and needed a vehicle that would safely transport stained glass art but could also be used as a family passenger vehicle. I had owned a Previa which was rapidly falling apart and felt I needed a new vehicle while I could still get...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great performance in bad conditions
Cons: cramped in the back

It seems that many people buy SUV's for use primarily under normal highway conditions, but this is not why I bought my RAV4.

I got this RAV4 originally as a lease when my 1990 Subaru Loyale finally died, after an expensive few years. I was...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: small size yet roomy, very comfy
Cons: not much space in the back seat for passengers

The fall of September 2000, was advancing fast on me, and I knew that my little 1991 Mercury Tracer would never be able to handle a return trip to Florida.
In addition to my own luggage and things I also had to had plenty of room for those of my Mom...

Pros: Safe, easy to park, 29mpg, good visibility, rear door swings open
Cons: too hard seats, rear seats not removable(fold up only), small cargo space in 2 door model

I have been driving my RAV4 for 3 years. About 6 month ago, a Suburban (a large SUV) hit me broadside on the passenger side. I was wearing my seat and shoulder belts. I received only a few scratches from broken window glass. Witnesses to the accident...

Pros: 20MPG AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER - 240miles/tank
Cons: BACK SEAT-WAY SMALL...My MAN is 6'and 257lbs-the front seat was tight!
The Bottom Line: Kept me out of a wreck/roll-heavy jerking it left and right. If mechanics had NOT SCREWED ME OVER THE YEARS, it would be in even BETTER SHAPE!

I've had it almost 10 years now @ 189,000 miles on it. I bought a new car every 2 years - about 4 cars - and 8 years BEFORE I got this one It's a keeper, plus I started doing accounting - can you say "DEPRECIATION ... FIDUCIARY ...
