10 YRS and KEEPING IT ... SAFEST FOR ROLLOVER

by lvmyrav4
Aug 19, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 20MPG AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER - 240miles/tank
Cons: BACK SEAT-WAY SMALL...My MAN is 6'and 257lbs-the front seat was tight!
The Bottom Line: Kept me out of a wreck/roll-heavy jerking it left and right. If mechanics had NOT SCREWED ME OVER THE YEARS, it would be in even BETTER SHAPE!

I've had it almost 10 years now @ 189,000 miles on it. I bought a new car every 2 years - about 4 cars - and 8 years BEFORE I got this one It's a keeper, plus I started doing accounting - can you say "DEPRECIATION ... FIDUCIARY ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: All-Wheel Drive, Compact, great options, gas mileage
Cons: Seat Comfort, crumpled in a minor wreck.
The Bottom Line: I loved my Rav4

I loved the looks of the Rav, the first time I saw one. Smaller and much more economical than larger SUV's. I was fortunate to have most of the options available at the time. Moonroof, Premium sound, power everything and dual airbags, and alarm. ... read more

Better than a CRV, but don't sell your CJ

by steven_snyder
Aug 19, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cute, small, goes almost anywhere
Cons: gutless, 26 MPH on the HWY, gutless, noisy tracionless OEM tires, & gutless
The Bottom Line: This is basically a small, AWD station wagon that does nothing spectacularly, but it's a well built Toyota.

Once upon a time, I was a young, single, well-paid engineer who loved sports cars, my last one being a fully-loaded 90 Turbo Celica that I bought new. Then one day, I got married and had kids and the Celica's Q factor lost out to "practicality". So it ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: small, easy to park, gas economy
Cons: gutless
The Bottom Line: don't expect too much from the vehicle and you will be very happy with it.

First of all, the car is great for parking since it is so short it can fit into the most tightest spots with ease. It has great fuel economy and was big treat after driving more fuel-demanding vehicles in the past. My biggest beef is that the car is ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun to drive, good handling, decent amount of cargo space
Cons: not much pickup, failed rollover test
The Bottom Line: Worth your time to give it a try.

When looking for a mini-SUV, this was one of my top choices. I test drove a few, and they were fun to drive, have good maintenance records, and an adequate amount of cargo space for their class. They also get good gas mileage for an SUV, but they don't ... read more

We have owned our 1997 2-door 5-speed 4WD RAV4 for nearly 4 years and over 72,000 miles. In that time, it has proved itself to be reliable, economical, practical, and a lot of fun to drive. We bought the RAV4 for our family of three to be ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great performance in bad conditions
Cons: cramped in the back

It seems that many people buy SUV's for use primarily under normal highway conditions, but this is not why I bought my RAV4. I got this RAV4 originally as a lease when my 1990 Subaru Loyale finally died, after an expensive few years. I was ... read more

Pros: High Resale Value, Good Looks, Handling
Cons: Weak engine, poor gas mileage, no armrests
The Bottom Line: Though a bit overpriced and underpowered, the RAV is a nice overall package perfect for small families and young drivers.

Two weeks ago, my roommate replaced her ailing 1995 Mazda 626 with a '97 Toyota Rav-4. After more than 1,000 miles, I can say that, overall, I am impressed by Toyota's freshman foray into the small sports-ute market. Exterior ... read more

Pros: Fun to drive for SUV, optional AWD
Cons: sluggish, cheap interior, noisy, expensive

The relative popularity of the RAV4 is curious. It's attributes include nimble handling, smooth transmission, and optional AWD, but it's not particularly roomy. What's the point of an SUV if it's not roomy and has questionable off-road ability. The ... read more

Pros: Size, full time 4-wheel drive, cargo area, safety features
Cons: Not a high-powered vehicle
