Pros: Excellent acceleration, Modern appearance, Good handling. Cons: Cheap interior, Seats. The Bottom Line: Good performance at a great price, however expect your typical economy car shortcomings.
Recently (4/16/03) I purchased my first car via an internet dealer using Autotrader.com; a 1998 Dodge Neon Highline 2 door coupe. I have been looking for a new car for what seems like an eternity now with no luck. While a '98 Dodge Neon was not the 2002...

Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Gas mileage isn't good; bumpy ride; difficult to keep aligned; noisy brakes; rattles under the hood occasionally; difficult to gain speed even on the smallest of hills.
This would not have been my first choice in a vehicle. I've always thought they were cute but never planned on owning one.
A family member purchased a Neon and, after about five months, decided it didn't suit her needs. Knowing that I had...

Pros: Inexpensive, good fuel economy Cons: High risk of theft , poor to marginal crash ratings, high depreciation
I had the opportunity to drive a 1998 Dodge Neon for a week and a half this spring. I rented the car from Enterprise on April 3rd as a temporary replacement for my '99 Beetle (just totaled). On the 13th, as I walked out my back door to the parking lot...

Pros: inexpensive, overall looks Cons: little power, (no real suprise there) frameless windows, absorbs all the bumps The Bottom Line: a good car for us young people
When I got my 1998 Dodge Neon in October of 2000, it was the first new car that I had ever gotten. For the price, the first thing I noticed was how sleek it looked. THe outside is very sharp looking and the inside is comfy. Other than a few minor...

I have a 1998 Dodge Neon and have had no problems with it. After reading some of the other opinions on here, I must be a lucky owner.

Why did I buy this Vehicle ?
I was looking for my first car in 1998 and did the dumbest thing of all.... succumbed to a smart salesman. I think I was taken mostly by the Neon's looks. At the time, I was only interested in the Corolla and the Mazda...

My wife and I purchased a 1998 Dodge Neon to provide more room for our family. Our son was born in the fall of 1997 and that's when we realized the Nissan 240 SX wasn't going to cut it! When we got to the dealership, I told the salesman we were looking...

Pros: Looks, cost, performance Cons: Crash test reliability, Ticket-me paint job
In the summer of 1998, I bought a new Dodge Neon RT 4 door sedan. You know the one that looks like Herbie the Love Bug because of the factory racing stripes.
The car is a pleasure to drive. The 5 speed stick (no automatic option) shifts...

Pros: Good looking, cheap to buy, cheap to run Cons: Noisy engine, depreciates like mad
We needed a compact car with four doors, because my wife gets nervous driving larger cars and we have two kids. After test driving Honda Civics, Toyota Corollas and Geo Prisms (and being disillusioned by either high prices or chintzy materials), we...

As a junior in high school, my father and i decided it was time for me to own a car. Since we had planned on spending no more than $10,000, the Neon fit perfectly into our budget. We decided upon a two-door Highline Coupe.
The interior of the...

Pros: Good city driving Cons: Light as a feather can't handle highway or snow well, cramped for family travel
As a former owner of a Dodge Shadow (Plymouth Sundance) it was only natural that I would look to the same company which made my first new car ever for it's replacement. I was disenheartened to find that they had discontinued the Shadow/Sundance line to...

Pros: Great handling, ergonomics and economics. Cons: Reliability stinks, cheap build quality, not crashworthy
Note: I originally wrote this opinion for the Plymouth Neon, but since the Dodge Neon is an identical twin to the Plymouth Neon, this opinion is applicable to both cars equally.
I spent an interesting two or so years with a 98 Plymouth Neon....

Late May of 1998 I needed a car. I was almost 17, and about to start my first real job. I had been working legally ever since I had turned 15, and wasted all my money. I was looking at many different cars and trucks. My parents informed me that they...
