Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Better on gas, easy to find parts, and will last a lifetime.
Cons: No rear cab room.  Two side seats that you might be able to squeeze in.
The Bottom Line: For those out there looking for an economical truck that will haul a load, and get you around town, this is your truck.

The 1998 Ford Ranger is a classic pickup truck that not only with pull the long haul, but it's also a long lasting ride.  Personally have owned one here it is driving as smooth as a brand new truck and its 2011.  Pretty sure she's got another ... read more

This is a review for my 1998 ford ranger. It is a small blue single cab truck, it is 2wd with a 5-spd manual and a 2.5L 152cu.in and 117hp @ 4500rpm. It is a good truck, i bought it used with 110,000miles and original clutch. This truck is sporty has ... read more

Ford's low quality shows here

Feb 25, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Runs good, gets from point A to B, no major problems.
Cons: Little problems, such as sensors and other electronics that stop working for no reason.
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this truck unless you are ready for the myriad of little things breaking and a noisey interior. Avoid the 4.0 liter if possible.

I can't say this truck is complete junk because it starts everyday and gets me to where I have to go without breaking down. However, numerous little things have gone wrong with the vehicle which are aggravating to say the least. First of all, from ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Best pickup for the money. Reliable, powerful engine and its just perfect!
Cons: It likes to drink gas and it doesn't come with a CD player.
The Bottom Line: Best small pickup available. Fun to drive, reliable and all around a great truck.

I just bought a 98' Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 V6 4X4 with a manual transmission. Not an easy find, at least in Virginia. There are plenty of 2WD Rangers out there, but I never really understood the point. If you are going to own a truck, it ... read more

The Best Never Rest!

by
Apr 21, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Looks, Handling, Great Interior
Cons: Fuel Mileage
The Bottom Line: Built Ford Tough!

I bought my Ranger used with 64k miles, I wasn't intending to buy such a new truck, as I was needing it for work. I found it for a good price, and I do like the body style alot better than the '93-'97 Rangers. The truck has the poor little 3.0 ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It's one good looking truck!
Cons: Gas mileage
The Bottom Line: It is much nicer and tighter than any other American made truck we looked at.

I drive a Toyota, a Corolla, 2001 Model. My husband is now the proud owner of a 1998 Ranger XLT SuperCab 4X4. This vehicle looks great and was well maintained by the previous owner. All I can tell you now is that a V6 engine is powerful ... read more

Is there anything other than a Ford.

by
Mar 6, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice interior, comfortable, has the pulling power of a Mack truck.
Cons: Has only 2 doors and not real roomy in the back.
The Bottom Line: I would drive anything less.

Yes! You've guessed we are Ford people. Our 1998 Ford Ranger SuperCab is a dream. It has power windows, locks, and so much more. We basically bought this one for it's price and only had 260 miles on it. We have well got our money out of it. ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 4 door convenience
Cons: 4cyl not for heavy haulers

I originally was looking at this vehicle because of price. I found the Ford Ranger to be an extreme value. I purchased the XLT Supercab with the 4DR option. I didn't know they had four doors at the time of purchase (8/98). I was sold when I saw the ... read more

Great Truck!

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Attractive, responsive, comfortable
Cons: A bit bumpy

I've never owned a pickup before, although my Dad always had one. I have four kids and we were getting by with one vehicle for awhile - a minivan. The minivan is great for hauling kids around - but it was overkill when I drove it to work alone. So I ... read more

Pros: Car-like comfort, rugged, dependable
Cons: Squeeky brakes and joints, transmission

I just turned over 30,000 miles on my 1998 Ford Ranger, four-door XLT, 4x4. This is my third over the past fourteen years. This is the first that ever had a glitch. The ‘door ajar’ light stays light and occasionally the dome light stays on by ... read more

Reasonably pleased

by
Aug 9, 2000 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Ride, handling, interior layout
Cons: Engine, drive system

I bought this vehicle for its flexibility and sportiness. I liked the looks, interior, 4WD, and ratings on the Ford. The truck handles great and is comfortable to drive. I hate the weak engine, the 3.0L V6. From what I understand, the 4.0L V6 is better, ... read more

I bought a 98 XLT Super Cab 4x4 with the 4.0 V6 and the 5 speed automatic transmission. I bought it off the lot and the only thing I would have liked to have on this truck now is 3 or 4 doors. It has just over 38,000 miles on it now and the only time it ... read more

WE bought a 98 Ford Ranger in June of 1999. WE don't really have anything bad to say about it. It does the job it was intended for and that was to get my husband back and forth to work. We had a F250 and had sold that so we looked around and got this ... read more
