So Close to Perfect

by
Mar 15, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth highway experience, engine, interior, brakes, sound system, suspension, understated luxury, safety features
Cons: Handling on curving roads, infrequent transmission jerks, green dash-lights
The Bottom Line: The GS300 is a superior mode of transportation. The few things that I'd change are hidden by a beautiful engine, limousine-like highway experience, and overall aura of perfection.

I spent 2 years looking for my first car. I wanted quality but under $12000. When I test drove a silver GS, the smooth and quiet experience was the first hints of unnatural quality. I bought that silver GS with 104,000 miles; and now, it has 126,000. I ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Everything from the wheels up to the roof; Excellence all around!
Cons: First & Owner before me never learned to park, scratch all the wheels.
The Bottom Line: This “Performance-Luxury Car” was made for those who would like to have a racing-sedan with a nice touch of luxury in it. I'm a extremely happy driver.

This amazing machine has the most comfortable (memory, heated) seats on the planet (no joke). This might be crazy, but it’s true. Sometimes I decide to seat in the car rather than seat in the sofa in my house. As the title says, ‘An ... read more

The Bottom Line: Want a reliable BMW? Search no more. You owe it to yourself.

My 1997 BMW 540 was always in the shop. Dealer service and treatment was horrible. I never thought of owning a Lexus or any other Asian manufacturer, but with Consumer Reports and JD Powers giving Lexus the #1 award for every single year for the past 11 ... read more

I just purchased the 1998 Lexus GS400 back in November 2001. Two years after owning a Subaru Limited Outback Sedan. I figured, hey, if I can get the same payments driving a Lexus as I had with the Subaru, I'd be crazy not to try for the trade. ( I had ... read more

Pros: Acceleration, Looks, Quality parts, Sound system.

The Bottom Line: I think Lexus had a solid hit with this car. The interior noise level is very low. Acceleration is quick. This car is a real beauty on the road.

***Update April 2005** Still no major problems with by GS 300. About a year ago, a "throttle position sensor" went out, and cost about $400 to fix. It was not under warranty. The car still drives and looks great. I have my eye on a new 2006 model, ... read more

Pros: Powerful, Quiet Ride
Cons: Easily Scratched

The 1998 Lexus GS 400 is a great car. I love the extremely powerful engine and how quiet the ride is. Sometimes, when I start the car, you don't even know if the engine has turned on yet! Also, when going at about 65 to 70 mph, you barely hear any ... read more

Cons: boxy/conservative exterior styling

My husband bought this car out of revenge. I had commandeered our '95 Lexus SC400, and he was stuck driving an Infiniti I30 he'd leased for business reasons. As serviceable as the I30 was, it didn't have the sporty excitement or power he loves in a ... read more

Dec 11, 1999 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: style, performance
Cons: lacks a few "bells and whistles"

Cons: nothing major

Bought this car in Jan. '98, 35,000 miles ago. At the time, the rationale was that it was a) on par with the BMW 540 or Mercedes E420 series and b) about $6k to $10k cheaper. Also liked the fact that it was a new design and not as familiar in ... read more
