A decent little car with some problems; I loved it anyway.

by
Oct 3, 2013 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Affordable, stylish, peppy, good mileage, roomy, good radio, won't die even when it probably should
Cons: bad head gasket, can be tough to see out the rear window
The Bottom Line: Peppy; good mileage; virtually problem-free apart from head gasket. Mine was like a vampire - almost impossible to kill. Good for a second car or a winter rat.

I bought my brand-new 1998 2-door automatic Plymouth Neon sight unseen and had it delivered to me, having rented one after my beloved 1990 Chevy Cavalier was totaled by being rear-ended by a larger vehicle at highway speed. I loved that little car until ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Cute body style
Cons: Rapidly diminished in value and reliability. Terrible engine quality.
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this car to anyone. Too many problems for anyone to deal with.

Our equipment: 2-door Coupe Automatic transmission My first impression would be that this car was okay. At first it drove well, maintained decent fuel efficiency, handled well. I loved the look of the car and the marketing of this model of car was ... read more

A good vehicle not without its minor faults

by
Jun 11, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: More HP than comparable models, comfortable seats, abundant headroom
Cons: Head gasket failures, mysterious freeway vibration, automatic only a 3speed, power windows on front only
The Bottom Line: This is a good car for students or commuters. It has more personality than its import competition. Watch out for models with faulty head gaskets, however.

I bought this vehicle used with 38k miles under its belt, after my 95 Saturn turned into the spawn of the devil. Coming from that vehicle, I was pleased with most of the features the Neon had to offer, and a bit annoyed with a few of its anomalies as ... read more

Pros: Reliable, Sporty, Gets you where you need to go.
Cons: Lack of power.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend buying a Neon, for your FIRST car! Its a good way to start off. After that, don't buy used again!

When I bought my Plymouth Neon Expresso, I got it used. They weren't any problems right off the bat. I didn't even want to test drive it, because I didn't really like it. But after I did, and realized that I couldn't afford the Stratus that was sitting ... read more

DO NOT BY THIS CAR!!!!

by
Mar 28, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Sporty look and feel, cheap price if you're in a bind.
Cons: Everything else.
The Bottom Line: AS I SAID, DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!! It is costly and unreliable, EXTREMELY cheaply made and expensive to fix. It is definitely a car to stay away from.

I bought a 1998 Plymouth Neon in early 2000. It had roughly 49,000 miles and it seemed in excellent condition. I was a college student and this was my first "new car" and it was (or SEEMED is the better word) a cheap, reliable, cute car. The dealer ... read more

Better than Basic Transportation

by
Mar 27, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cheap, sporty, plenty of acceleration, good handling.
Cons: Unexpected repairs, gas mileage.
The Bottom Line: Good first car, basic transportation for a poor college grad or single parent. Not likely to impress your friends or fulfill your driving fantasies.

I bought my '98 Plymouth Neon used in 99 from a now defunct AutoNation dealership for just under $9k (excluding TTL). Overall, I've been pretty happy with it, minus a couple setbacks. My little 4-door accelerates quickly off the line, unless ... read more

Pros: Good gas mileage, easy to park

by
Jul 3, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Price, Decent Sized interior
Cons: No Power, Very Unreliable, Engine Design is horrible
The Bottom Line: Overall, the Plymouth Neon is one of the worst cars I have ever seen or driven surpassed only by the Suzuki Swift. I would defiantly STAY AWAY from this car!!!

The 1998 Plymouth Neon is by far one of the worst cars I have ever seen or driven. Luckily I don't own one, but unfortunately my girlfriend does (hers is a 1996 but nothing has changed). Before I get into the specs of the neon let me tell you a little ... read more

Alot of car, in a happy little package...

by
Jan 21, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stylish, economical, relatively roomy, fun to drive
Cons: Barely adequate engines, bad rep, not so hot in crash tests
The Bottom Line: A good car car overall, if it hasn't been abused. Cute and perky styling, and economical are big selling points. A good second or third car.

I know, I know. It's a NEON. How could a lowly little econocar be considered fun and cool? I was surprised myself, but I swear it's true. This little car really surprised me with the things it had, the way it was built, and the way it handled. ... read more

My 98 neon was my first new car and I thought for the money it was a good deal. I was so wrong. I bought my car brand new, with only 3 miles on it. Well, I had it 3 months and I had to take it to the shop for the front end shimmy at 40 to 45 miles per ... read more

Pros: saves on gas
Cons: size of car

I bought this car because of the price. I also loved the seats, they are like confetti. They are beautiful. It also has the back seats that fold forward in case you have something too big to fit in the trunk. That was you can shut the trunk and let ... read more
