Pros: 280-310 stock RWHP in a high performance based vehicle for very little money.
Cons: passengers won't like this car. some known problems to watch for, but not uncommon. The Bottom Line: can't beat the power for the money. don't expect Mercedes interior. and these cars were more than likely beat on vs. some grandpa's BMW that never saw redline.
having owned 8 Fox-3 Mustangs (87-93) ranging from mildly modified (gear, exhaust, bolt-ons) to heavily modified (built engine, stage 3 heads cam, all bolt-ons)....i'd have to say that the LS1 F-body Firebirds/Z-28s are now the best value for the money ...

Pros: Performance, style Cons: Sub-par interior, rear seat room The Bottom Line: You know just by looking at it if this is the car for you. I say buy it!
Reliability - I purchased my 98 Trans Am 3 years ago with 12,000 miles on it, and have since then racked up 62,000 and it's still running as strong as the day I got it. I've had a couple minor things go, such as the brake light switch, headlight motor ...

Pros: Power, Handling, Bang for the Buck Cons: Insurance, back seat The Bottom Line: This is just a great performance car at a Japanese economy car price
Man, what I year I've had. I've had to make sacrifices and compromises I never thought I would. I finally got some bucks back and the first area I was going to "un-compromise" was my car. I had been driving an 89 V-6 Firebird. It was a great little...

Pros: Mega power, TORQUE monster, that beautiful V8 sound, looks, fuel economy Cons: Workmanship is hit-or-miss The Bottom Line: The muscle car lives. This 'Bird is ready for takeoff and it's a power monger's dream.
In 1967 Pontiac Motor Division created the Firebird, their entry in the fledgling "pony-car" market initiated by Ford's Mustang. Thirty years later, the Firebird (and its more potent older brother, Trans Am) has matured into one America's finest...

Pros: Styling, performance, value Cons: Comfort flaws, abysmal quality
The late-model (Mine was a 98) Pontiac Firebird has to be the greatest car to go wrong ever. It has so much potential, so much about it to adore, but so much technically wrong with it to get in the way of loving it and ruining the experience!

Pros: Growling good power, fun 6 speed stick, great stereo, head-turning looks, reliability (gasp!) Cons: Back seat, cup holder location, tire wear, bad weather handling The Bottom Line: Highly recommended to anybody looking for a high performance car at a great price. It looks beautiful, it drives wonderfully, and it's more reliable than you might think.
I've had my 98 Trans Am for about three years and have been very happy with it. Back in my younger days, I owned a 82 Camaro, which, while fun, was a constant source of repair and frustration. This car gives me all of the fun and very little of the...

Pros: POWER, looks, standard features, price Cons: build quality, interior materials quality
I am a fan of fast cars. I have been since I was 14. While in high school, I drove a 1985 Mazda RX7. I then owned a 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 and a 1986 Buick Grand National. So, I consider myself somewhat qualified to talk about the performance aspects of my...

Pros: Power, beauty, handling, maneuverability Cons: gas consumption, insurance costs
As soon as I saw the Firebird Trans Am on the lot I made a u-turn and went back, I just had to drive this car. The Firebird restyled for 1998 is a guaranteed head turner and it turned my head pronto.
The car is gorgeous inside & out,...

Pros: Handling, Appearance, Sound (with Pontiac Monsoon upgrade) Cons: Not extremely comfortable, suspension is sports-car type, not luxury-car type.
Epinion Updated 6-3-00!
Pontiacs target clientele is those with a touch of "flair" & "charisma"... much like this car. The 1998 Firebird that I drive daily is far and away the best car I've ever owned. It...

Pros: Good looking Solid Cons: Slow
This is a very nice looking car at a base price of $17k. But when you get a 'fast' looking for that a relativly middle class person could afford. You get the occasionally idiot who thinks its a super car and drivers it like he/she's on a race track....

Pros: Awesome power. Very good resale value. Head turner. Cons: Gaudy styling. Costly to gas up and insure. The Bottom Line: Last of a dying breed.
Actually the 1998 Firebird Trans Am I will attempt to review is my wife's car. The styling is too gaudy for my tastes. We've owned close to a dozen Firebirds since the mid 70's and it's the only car my wife would even consider buying.
Positives: The...

Pros: low-maintenance Cons: cramped back seat, catalytic converter rests on passenger side floor
I bought a midnight black 1998 Pontiac Firebird in June 1998, and it's been the smoothest ride I've owned. Mind you, I've owned the 1980 Silver Anniversary Edition MGB, a 1993 Nissan 280ZX, and the bomb of all bombs -- a 1990 Cutlass Ciera. I know you're...

Pros: Looks Great, Runs Great Cons: VERY HIGH INSURANCE COST
When you walk into the Pontiac store and you ask to see a new Trans Am, don't let them show you anything but the WS6 with the 6 speed manual. I drove the stock TA with an Automatic, and my Saab outran it. The WS6 pakage not only changes the cosmetics,...

Pros: Fast Attractive Chick Magnet Cons: American Car
I have had a firebird for the past year and a half. Durring that time I have been honked at, winked at, stared at, and never laughed at. What a great automobile. Aside from the normal defects american cars have like bad accessories and cheep interior,...
