Pros: Good smooth ride, decent trunk and gas mileage Cons: Hard to get repaired, cooling system unreliable, expensive to repair, transmission performance questionable The Bottom Line: Avoid this model as repairs are costly, complicated and time consuming, with its current age all should be affected by this fact.
The 1998 Pontiac Grand Am is comfortable to ride in and has a good sized trunk. We bought ours used, as a backup and errand car. When it runs, it is great, I enjoy the CD player and cold AC. The problem is when it does need repairs, it is hard for ... read more

Pros: Stylish, spacious, factory cd player decent, like the moonroof. Cons: VERY unreliable, repairs costly, brakes and water pumps don't last. The Bottom Line: Do not buy this car. In two years, I've spent $3000 in repairs and now I'm told I'd have to spend $4000 more to make it run again!
I bought my used 1998 Pontiac V6 Grand Am GT in July, 2004 and it had about 80,000 miles on it. I paid $5200, thinking that I was getting a stylish, dependable car for a decent price. I was very wrong. It had received regular oil changes and seemed to ... read more

I have 2 98 Grand AM SE's with the 2.4L twin-cam engine. The Grand Am SE is a pretty good looking car (not as nice as the GT) but that little 4 rips. It was fast when I got it and it is even faster now that I got a K&N Airfilter for it (of course ... read more
