I've been a faithful GM driver since I could drive (and actually could choose my cars! ha ha) and this is my first brand new car... a 1999 Cavalier. The reason why I got it was so I would have something safe to drive my baby around in. It's quite roomy,...

Pros: cute, affordable, it's a chevy, it's gotta be good
Cons: small, gas mileage isn't the best, looks sportier than it is
The Bottom Line: If you can afford it, get a Z24, just so it performs the way it looks, but it's a good car that, if taken care of, will last many years.

I've had this car for a year now, and though I miss the security of my 1992 Oldsmobile, I'm not any longer embarressed when people see me in my car! Mine is a 2-door, 5 speed red cavalier. Unfortunately, the person that bought it first was more...

Pros: Good content for price
Cons: Two spoke steering wheel is uncomfortable

I am a union worker, so it's important for me to buy AMERICAN! The Chevy Cavalier is a good choice. I've always been a General Motors kind of guy, and I've owned Cavaliers and Pontiac Sunbirds before. This 1999 version is the best of the lot. It is...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Cheap price
Cons: Cheap parts, poor quality, craftmanship is horrible and warranty is sketchy.
The Bottom Line: If you just want a cheap car, find another one. This will turn into an expensive car before long.

I bought my cavalier in 1999. It was brand new with only 56 miles on it. I got the factory warranty, along with an extended warranty. After only having the car 6 months, the gauges quit working properly. It was mostly the mileage gauge that quit ...

Pros: It has lived up to my expectations and then some!
Cons: Could there be anything bad to say?
The Bottom Line: If I had it to do again, I would buy this car. It has been trouble-free!

My title is true...my 1999 Chevy Cavalier survived a some serious weather and is still going! I bought the car new because I was anticipating a lot of driving and needed something that would be easy on gas. The Cavalier met my needs in the fuel ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: RELIABLE, stylish, easily maneuverable, sports car handling, small turning radius, starts on VERY COLD days...
Cons: LOW Safety Ratings, my tape deck didn't work well at all, battery failed once...
The Bottom Line: I WOULD recommend this car, but with a small warning about the low side crash rating. I think this car deserves more attention by the makers, to improve safety ratings.

My father bought me a used 1999 Chevy Cavalier in 2002. In the entire time I've had the car, it's been 3-4yrs now, I've had ONLY two problems with it. 1. The tape deck is flawed, it plays only on one side of the car (I know it's the tape deck and not the ...

Pros: It was only a lease and I get to unload it.
Cons: Cracked head gasket, clunking steering wheel, whistling AC vents, constant creeking.
The Bottom Line: The Cavalier is a great investment....if you're looking for a way to waste your hard earned money.

If Chevrolet/GM offered me a brand new Cavalier for FREE, I would keep on walking.

Since day one, my "brand new" Cavalier ran hot and leaked anti-freeze. Each morning was an adventure, wondering which warning light would flash on the...

Pros: sporty look reliable nice acceleration no major problems encountered so far good gas mileage visibility
Cons: not much space for backseat riders factory CD player won't played burned CDs
The Bottom Line: If I had to do it again, I'd go with the Cavalier again. No major problems, reliable, nice ride.

Just to clarify, I drive a two-door Z24 (which has a double overhead cam, and I don't know if the non-Z24 does). That feature, from what I know, helps with the "get-up-and-go" factor. I think it has great acceleration for not being an super sporty car. I ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power (2.4L), price, styling, reliability
Cons: Handling, craftsmanship
The Bottom Line: The cavalier is a good car, but is worth the upgrade to the 2.4 L engine due to the problems inherent with the 2.2 L.

I have driven both the standard 2.2 L Cavaliers and the 2.4 L Z24/Z22 Cavaliers. The engine and power train of the 2.2 L is weak and it made some terrible sounds after only 400 km of highway driving. However, this is supposed to be "normal" for this...

Cons: lots of failures some very major

Not so great

Pros: Can park in small places, good transmission.
Cons: everything else about it
My biggest problem with my 99 chevy cavalier is that all the little things break all the time! We have had to replace the motors on the power windows and the upholstery has not held up well at all. The gas mileage has been horrible. It is a tiny car and really is a true chevy! I have a lot of frustrations with how loud it is and I really don't find it a very smooth ride. The seats are hard and there just isn't much space to move. Its a small car with little padding so you hear everything. The acceleration is slow. Another big problem I have with the cavalier is the horrible crash test rating it has. It is not a safe car to be in if you get into an accident. The design of the hood is horrible for accidents because it slides very nicely under other vehicles causing enormous damage even in a fender bender. Hence why the crash test rating for the front did not even receive one star for head and neck injuries. The one perk about the cavalier is that the transmission is pretty good.

Pros: mileage, low maintenance, sporty.
Cons: none
In June of 1999, I bought a new 1999 2 door Cavalier, automatic transmission, manual locks/windows. No perks. It's been a great car. Almost 200,000 miles on it, and still getting 28 miles/gallon...even with golf clubs in the trunk.
Ride is comfortable, not luxury...but i didn't pay for a luxury ride either. Interior has held up beautifully, except for a crack in the console near the windshield likely from sun damage. Gray cloth seats and floor mats still look great.
Great, reliable car, especially for the price.
Really, no complaints.

Pros: Dependable, affordable, sporty
Cons: It's not a Lexus (haha)
I bought the 1999 Chevy Cavalier brand new and I have had no problems with it! As a female with no car smarts, I love a car that requires little more than regular oil changes and annual inspections. I had to replace the brakes at 6 years of age, and at 7 years was advised to replace the original battery and tires. Other than that, my car is dependable and just what I was looking for (in my price range).

Pros: good gas mileage
Cons: no tachometer, 106mph governor
I recently purchased a '99 cavalier and have had no major complaints about it so far, other than the lack of a tachometer. My car is a 2 door base model with a CD player and 5 speed manual. The car itself is roomy in the front and in the back has enough space to comfortably accommodate 2 adults or 3 children. The trunk is cavernous especially with the fold down back seat. I can't however recommend this car for someone who wants to go fast, the governor cuts the engine at 106mph, which is nowhere near redline in fourth gear. I recommend this car for anyone wanting to save money on gas, or for anyone who doesn't care about having a car that can go over 106mph.
