The Pickup - Every new homeowner's must-have

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fair price, carries stuff, easy to drive
Cons: 4-cylinder engine lacks power, small bed can't carry big things full sized trucks can carry

I used to poke fun at trucks when I was a kid. You know, the old country music listening, beer drinking, football watching, hunting dog toting stereotype.

That all changed when I grew up and bought a house. As a new homeowner with a...

NOVEMBER 17, 2000 UPDATE

Well, it's 20,000 miles and a year since I bought the truck. It has been a good purchase. I have been to the dealer for regular service (oil change every 4-5000 miles, one tire rotation) and my average cost per visit...

Pros: Comfortable, smooth ride.
Cons: Nothing.

I bought this vehicle because I was sick of borrowing friends' trucks. While it took a few weeks (and visits to car dealers) to find one I liked at a decent price, I am happy to say that I found a nice truck at a nice price.

I was hoping to get a bigger truck. But after driving this truck [ LS extended cab,Vortec 4.3 V-6,loaded] I was impressed how this little truck handled and how much punch and power the Vortec 4.3 delivered. To drive back and forth to work, running around...

Pros: great sporty appeal
Cons: needs more room on the inside

I purchased a 1999 Chevy S-10 XCAB within the last year. So far it has delivered good dependable service. Although it seems to be a little smaller inside that other small pickups I've owned, it is sufficient to meet the needs. This particular S-10 has...

I am a proud owner of a 1999 Chevrolet S-10. Unfortunately, I had to settle for the minimum when making my vehicle purchase, but I am happy so far.

Pros: Fun to drive and good gas mileage
Cons: Not a people mover

Sometimes you just Need a truck for light hauling but also Need a commuter

I am only 20 years old, but I know a tough truck when I see one, and the Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 is one of the toughest around. I have had three trucks in my short life so far, the first being a 1995 2WD 5-speed S-10. Great little truck, but there was...

Cons: 4 cylinder a little underpowered.
The Bottom Line: I recommend the chevy s-10 to anyone in search of a low maintenance light duty pick up.

I have always wanted a pickup since I was a little kid. Something about the higher ride, and the whole tough car attitude a truck can give off. Now my S-10 is not by any means that tough of a truck with it's 2200 vortec 4-cylinder engine, however as...

The Truck That Wouldn't Die (or, unlike a Toyota, wouldn't rust)

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: I get 25+ MPG. It will probably run forever but will be ugly always.
Cons: The exhaust line design is the stupidest thing that was not designed by Ford.
Efficient, low-powered but stubborn even on high hills, ugly and cheap but refuses to die. I love this truck. I commute to work 25 miles on back roads each day, drive my kids around, haul trash to the dump and it does exactly what a small truck is supposed to do. Probably the best $2k I ever spent.

Pros: Styling is great, seating is plush, extended cab helps, stereo is good, fun to drive
Cons: power in the 2.4 liter 4 banger, room, ride quality.
The 1999 S10 that I have is a extended cab with the 2.4 liter motor and a five speed. I have a 3 6 drop on it and custom wheels and a flame job.The thing about the s10s are they have good resale value. They really turn heads you fill cool driving it unlike my toyota. It has a small cab which and it rides a little rough even stock you do sit to low but I still recommend it.If you liked it go for it.The bad is its only a 2.4 not a 2.7 like the toyota but a lot of people dont want the v6 so if u find a 1999 s10 get the 5 speed to counter that.It can seat 2 adults and 1 or maybe 2 kids pretty good and be cool crusin in it.Your not going to win any races with it just a heads up but the 99 s10 is a cruiser.
