1999 Ford Ranger XL 4x4 Regular Cab - A Thirsty Little Guy

by
Aug 28, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, great little hauler. Nice interior for a truck.
Cons: Terrible gas mileage with 3.0 V6 and Four Wheel Drive
The Bottom Line: A bargain basement reliable 4x4. Thirsty

I bought this truck because I am a do-it-yourselfer. I built a one room guesthouse in the back yard. All the materials (wood, windows, roofing shingles, etc.) were hauled in my little Ranger. On the plus side, I think the Ranger is been a reliable ... read more

The Purple (Wedgewood Blue) Ranger

by
Aug 21, 2005 - Updated Oct 2, 2011 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A good work truck with good fuel economy.
Cons: Has vacuum pulse hubs which may fail at any moment.
The Bottom Line: A good economical truck, but beware of the vacuum pulse hubs, Ford discontinued them in 2001.

I acquired this truck March 2005 to replace the 2000 Ranger that met it's demise on a patch of black ice. I liked the Ranger in part because I walked away from a rollover accident in one and it gets good fuel economy. The 1999 model year is nearly ... read more

The "BEST" vehicle I've ever owned!!!

by
Aug 1, 2005 (Not Yet Rated)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Do the scheduled maintenance, and you'll drive virtually worry free.
Cons: The 2.5L is just adequate power, but not a "serious performance" engine.
The Bottom Line: Drive one yourself. You'll find what I've found out. It's the best!!!

I purchased a '99 Ranger in July of 2002 with 47,000 miles on the odometer. It was to say the least, a filthy, dusty, and slightly abused truck. Sand and concrete lined the truck bed(NO BED LINER). The cab had seen some ladders, and lumber laid on the ... read more

Ranger is a good little truck

by
Feb 11, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, Durable, stereo rocks
Cons: 4.0L motor, hard to access back seats, accessory problems, customer service while under warranty
The Bottom Line: Buy the extended warranty for sure. We only got one to 80K miles, I would suggest to 100K w/ $0 deductible.

We have brought 2 Rangers. Both 99's, 4 wheel, black. The first one had a 4.0L motor. Nice strong motor that was dependable and quick. It laid wheels at traffic lights :) Except, it made this "marble in a tin can noise". The more we brought it in to ... read more

Cons: Gas, Space, Clutch
The Bottom Line: If your looking for a truck thats going to last, this is the one.

About 2 months ago, my dad took me to get a newer vechical and I ended up with this 1999 Ford Ranger. It's a extend cab, 2door, 2wheel drive, 2.5 ltr. manuel transmission with 72,000 miles. I instantly liked the looks of the truck. The ... read more

ford quality?

by
Apr 24, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: low priced, nice mpg, interior nice
Cons: Maintenance, maintenance....
The Bottom Line: Improve quality, specifically with mechanics, electronic parts, and overall engineering. too many shorts in the electrical system to be considered a safe vehicle.

I am a cautious driver, with fairly decent maintenance record. The truck is a fairly nice truck by looks and comfort (I got what I paid for - $12,000). But, I am not impressed by the manufacturing and engineering of this 99 Ford Ranger. I wish Ford ... read more

Not bad.....for a Ranger

by
Feb 28, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice exterior, fun to drive.
Cons: No power!
The Bottom Line: Good little truck, affordable too.

I had a 1999 Ford Ranger 2WD XL, when I got it everything was stock down to the ugly rims that Ford gave me, man were they ugly. Manual transmission was fun to drive, when the traffic wasn't heavy. 2.5 liter 4 cylinder has no power at all, took about 2 ... read more

Is Quality Job One?

by
Feb 13, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice Look
Cons: Poor Manufacturing, Tiny Interior with Terrible bucket seats.
The Bottom Line: Built-in obsolescence is one thing we have all come to expect, but this Ranger is disintegrating before my very eyes.

I owned two Ford Rangers. First, 1989 STX Ext Cab. and currently 1999 Ranger Standard Cab. Both 4WD. Something has happened in those 11 years. First Ranger I drove for 8 years. Ran great, 4WD worked well nice bucket seats, solid build, good turning ... read more

An Amazed Domestic Convert

by
Oct 15, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Body style, interior comfort
Cons: Gas mileage
The Bottom Line: Ranger has given me no trouble and I had an amazingly good experience with my dealer.

My Ranger was my first foray into the domestic market. I was hesitant, after long, happy ownership of VW Beetles, an amazing '82 Toyota Tercel, and an '87 Isuzu pickup. "Baywatch", however, ruined my life, thanks to their little Ford rescue trucks. I ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It looks so good. Very comfortable
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: It is the most comfortable, nice riding, and nice looking truck on the market.

We got the truck a couple of months ago. It is an XLT Supercab, Sport. It has power windows, locks, mirrors, cd player, automatic, V6, 4X4, ac, etc... This truck is loaded. The only problem we had with the truck was with the drive shaft. Ford had a ... read more

Tree Hugging

by
Apr 8, 2001 - Updated Apr 11, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The sporty-ness, amzing pickup, strong hauling for small size
Cons: The worthless back seat
The Bottom Line: This truck maintains the good name of American made. Strong and nimble like the Ford name, but go for a newer brand.

The good thing about this truck is that it can run on natural gas. If you are a Save-the-Earth activist (i.e. tree hugger), this car is the ideal car. Natural fuel burns a lot cleaner the octane fuel, I just donít know how much that runs for (I would ... read more

Go power Ranger!

by
Apr 8, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It's American built, Ford Tough, and It looks good for it's size
Cons: It's lower in Hp than the bigger trucks.
The Bottom Line: Good truck at a good price. There is definitely room for Ford to improve though.

This Truck is good if you want a truck but don't haul something every single day. I have had this truck for about a year and a half. Have had no problems with it at all. It rides quiet, has comfortable seats, and has plenty of options. I just wish I had ... read more

Apr 6, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, sporty look, plenty of power for my uses
Cons: haven't found one yet
The Bottom Line: Every rockstar should own one... or a tour bus.

First let me say that as a rock star, I object to the stereotypical view of people who own pickup trucks as rednecks. I am on the cutting edge of music and fashion, and I've never owned a pair of boots in my life. That said, I must tell you ... read more

FORD SMALL TRUCK

by
Feb 24, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The truck is very easy to drive and is a fun vehicle to drive.
Cons: The cab is very small.
The Bottom Line: Good truck for light loads, but not particularly good for large cargo or long trips.

This is one of fords smallest trucks. This truck is east to drive and controll. It is even easy to learn to use a stick shift in. The truck would be a good truck for somebody that regularly carries light loads, but anything larger than a dresser would ... read more

Best pickup Super Cab 4 wheel drive around!

by
Feb 20, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Rides quiet, lots of room. Many features, great styling.
Cons: Stiff 4 wheel drive. Bed covers are hard to put on, mainly the leather snap-ons.
The Bottom Line: I still would not buy a truck, but if so this would be it. Its just like a car, not to big and bulky but all the truck features.

My girlfriend first told me she wanted a truck I downed the idea, because I am a car man. I never liked trucks, no room. So she brought it home and to my surprise it looked good. She got the Sports package with a sunroof and back leather cove. I liked ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, options, reliability, TIRES
Cons: engine power, ride, seats, cargo area
The Bottom Line: A truck that will fulfill just about anyone's need in a small truck. Not perfect, but a good buy for the price paid new.

If your looking for a small truck, a Ranger...more specifically a 2001 Ranger is probably what your looking for. I have a 1999 version of the truck which is my second Ranger. The Ranger has a lot to offer it's owner with the best part being ... read more
