99' Sonoma

by
Jun 3, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: good gas mileage, sturdy paint, lots of aftermarket support
Cons: poor workmanship, little bed space, unusable rear seat,
The Bottom Line: This truck is to be avoided with the 4 cyl engine and the auto combined.

I bought this truck new in 99' and have been disappointed every since. It seems as though it has spent more time at the dealership than in my driveway. I opted for the 4 cylinder because I had a 60 mile commute every day, coupled with the automatic ... read more

Jun 16, 2001 - Updated Jun 19, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice design, third door for extended cab, CD player can read all CD-R's
Cons: 2.2L 4 banger under powered, low stock stereo wattage
The Bottom Line: If you want a small size extended cab truck it's hard to go wrong with the GMC Sonoma/Chevy S10. Get the V-6.

My '93 GMC Sonoma was a single cab, everything worked, drove well, had 117K miles on it and paid for. But my wife needed a trade in for a new car, so I gave her my '93 and decided to buy a '99 extended cab Sonoma. I like this truck and I like the way ... read more

Great in foul weather.

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lots of power, comfortable, sticks to the road.
Cons: Limited in cab storage, not too great mileage.
The Bottom Line: If you can afford the payments and insurance, buy it. Put weight in the back, and it will stick to the road, no matter what.

I'll start by saying that the truck I'm rating is my fiancÚ's truck, and most of my experience with it involved a Christmas road trip through two disaster areas. We are getting rid of it, but that has more to do with the high payment and insurance and ... read more

I bought this truck because it was a good deal on lease. Thank god it is a lease, if you intend on carrying more than 250#, do not buy this truck. I have had 2 sets of rear springs already installed. The last time I took it to service I had 3 100' ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very Smooth

GMC scored a coup last year with a sporty Sonoma pickup that feels like a sports car when you hustle it around a freeway exit ramp. It's back this year, but even better because it has a new instrument panel, second-generation airbags for both driver ... read more

Pros: reliable, inexpensive, fun to drive.
Cons: poor traction in bad weather

I must say that I have preferred General Motors' vehicles all my life, and the six months that I spent with my 1999 GMC Sonoma only confirmed that. In June 1999 I purchased the truck simply because it was the cheapest new vehicle on the lot, or in the ... read more

Pros: Small, easy to park, no rattles or air leaks
Cons: Terrible seats, not much pep in tight situations

This is a truck for someone who doesn't want to feel like they're driving a truck. It gives you the feel of a truck (you're up fairly high, you can take potholes, curbs, and bumpy roads pretty easily), but overall it drives more like a car. The ride is ... read more
