Pros: Price, feature level, comfort, power, classic Mercedes style Cons: Engine noise on accel., unwanted attention
Having shopped around for our second car for quite a while, we (my wife and I) had driven BMW's, Audi's (I own and A4 and love it! -- see my review), Lincoln LS's, Infiniti's, and Lexus' (Lexi?).
This car was the last one we drove. It stopped us...

Pros: Safety, handling, gas mileage Cons: Big, bulky exterior, expensive oil changes
To me it's all about safety. I had the luxury of being able to afford a car like this, and I did quite a bit of homework.
I never had a German before and was not particularly eager to purchase one. However, after graduating from the SUV phase...

Pros: Speed, stealth, comfort, ease of use Cons: Pain to keep clean.
Having been fortunate to have had a succession of fine, fast cars - my wife became pregnant with our second child.
This imminent arrival meant that my then-current car (a '96 Porsche 911 C4) probably wouldn't fit any more. The backseats are...

Pros: Open, spacious interior. Good performance. Comfortable and good handling. Cons: Spartan interior. Premium Bose stereo not all that. The Bottom Line: An SUV that doesn't drive like one. You can get lucky and get a rock solid one that feels like Merc of old: spartan yet very durable.
Ever since this product was introduced, people have made a habit of slamming it. I often wonder whether they refer to the same vehicle that I have been driving since 1999, because my experience is utterly different. Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt the...

Pros: Nice design Cons: Uneven quality
Mercedes-Benz is a legendary name in the auto industry, renowned for its exceptional quality and engineering, but does that mean the three-pointed star is immune to rolling out an occasional lemon? Is it possible for Mercedes-Benz to build a clunker? ...

Pros: Styling, performance, features, feel Cons: Thief-attracting hood ornament
My wife and I spent about 3 months looking for a replacement for our 1998 Honda Accord, which was a solid, reliable car. We wanted something a little more classy, and the Mercedes certainly met that criteria! We looked at several competing models,...

Pros: Reliability, handling, safety, style and snob-appeal. Cons: Interior luxury appointments are a bit dated and subdued. Bose sound system is simply "ok" in comparison to other vehicles on the market.
It had to happen sooner or later. The time had come to trade in my beloved SAAB convertible for a "grown-up" car. Job and family responsibilities made it necessary to switch. I had owned pickup trucks, jeeps, sports cars and the like and...

Pros: Good acceleration, mid-sized with three rows of seats and the three point star logo Cons: Horribile reliability, very expensive repair, less value for money than others. The Bottom Line: Most expensive to maintain because of reliability problems and most other luxury SUV's provide value for money and features. Avoid this SUV.
One good side - it has a peppy acceleration, mid-sized with three rows of seats, firm leather seats (good and bad) and the three point star logo! Now Problems every 3 months. Total amount spent on repairs/services exceeds all my last 3 cars in last 6 ...

Pros: Handling, looks. Cons: Quality issues. The Bottom Line: We started calling it the Chrysler M-Class. Too many problems for a Mercedes-Benz.
Back in college I bought an eleven year old Mercedes-Benz 220 Diesel with well over 150,000 miles on it. I drove it for another 50,000 miles before selling it at a profit. Never had a problem and I became a firm believer in Mercedes' legendary quality. ...

Pros: Car like handling, space, comfortable, built tough, reliable
Cons: Cheap radio sound and controls
Dealership will rip you off on extras The Bottom Line: A very good all purpose utility vehicle. My wife and I would buy it again if we had to do it again.
I have a 1999 ML320. It is the base model (V6, electric windows), plus a sun roof and leather seats. It does not have electric seats. It now has over 20,000 miles on it. When I purchased the vehicle, I compared it to all the other competition, to...

Pros: Overall safe chassis; only mid-priced SUV to ride like a car; easy handling; good acceleration Cons: Cramped interior space (seats only 5); product recall; poor interior/exterior sealing (poor interior temperature control); no rear internal childproof locking mechanism
Who would expect a luxury vehicle purchased at a luxurious price to have major faults? Expect the unexpected with the 1999 ML320. Chosen over other midsize makes (Lexus SUV, Land Rover, Jeep Cherokee, Audi wagon) in comparable price categories (around...

The Drive:

This is one of the worst cars we've ever owned and I can't wait to get rid
of it. To make a long story short soon after we bought our ml320 problems started to surface on a weekly basis. Let me list a few:
