Pros: Value, Comfortable, Quiet, decent gas mileage Cons: Handling, dealership service hours
I bought my Sable new back in April, 1999 during a special sale deal. I had just ordered my Mercury Mystique from the factory as no one could find the exact car I wanted on their lots nearby. Then I saw the ad in the paper that week offering a lot of...

Pros: Spacious, lots of perks Cons: can't see the front hood
My wonderful little Ford Aspire blew some more bearings. Actually, it was more than that and my husband said enough. It was time to look for a newer car. I was crushed because I really liked my little car but with our youngest son, 15 years, we went...

Pros: Station Wagon, Safe, Room Cons: No Digital Dash, No passenger power seats
My 86 Ford Taurus wagon was on it's second coolant system and that wasn't doing the job. My daily commute became even more stressful: sitting at a light and watching the temperature gauge swing up like the second hand of a watch, seeing all the cars...

Pros: Comfortable ride, reliable, many features, incredible trunk room Cons: Expected better gas mileage, CD changer in trunk The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this to anyone. It has been very reliable, and requires little maintenance. The ride is very good, and the features can't be beat for the price.
Having previously owned a Ford Explorer XLT and Saturn SC2, I was ready for a "family" car, with 4 doors, good gas mileage and I didn't want to spend a fortune for it.
My Explorer was great, but the gas mileage was awful, and it was a bear...

Pros: Comfortable and Roomy! Cons: None!
I bought my 1999 Mercury Sable after my mother and sister both bought one. Each time I rode in their Sables I thought they were comfortable and smooth on the road.
I wanted something bigger than my previous car after I had my second child. The...

Pros: Very attractive, powerful, plenty of perks. Cons: hard on tires The Bottom Line: I liked mine so much I just purchased a brand new 2001 Sable LS, I loved mine
I liked my 1999 Mercury Sable very much, from the power when I stepped on the gas to leather seats. I never had a problem with it other than it (so was I)was hard on tires. Mine was a LS touring edition, i refer to it in past tense because I just...

Pros: Safety, Conveinence and price Cons: Gas Mileage
The '99 Mercury Sable is alot of car for not a whole lot of money. With A 7 year old son and a baby on the way, we needed to trade in the old 2 door and get a 4 door. We found what we were looking for in the Mercury Sable. It offers, driver and...

Pros: DOHC engine, price, comfort Cons: standard radio, no heated seats
If you're going to get a wagon, you might as well get a NICE wagon. Go ahead and trick it up.
I highly recommend the Duratec DOHC V-6. Much spunkier than the standard engine.
I love the leather interior. The console and console...

Pros: Stylish, easy to handle Cons: Footrest, backwards high beam lever
We bought our 1999 Sable in April. It is a very smart looking vehicle and handles nicely. My husband is 6'3" and he has plenty of head and leg room when driving this car. The trunk has lots of room - I hauled 20 cases of soda, 4 suitcases (2 of...

Pros: Roomy and luxurious interior, great options and the engine has a lot of power. Cons: Excluding all of the other problems, it does not have a good turning radius. The Bottom Line: I would not recommend purchasing this car without an extended warranty.
After reading the reviews initially, I thought I had found the perfect car, but after having bought my Mercury Sable in January 2003, I am NOT impressed with the quality of this car. Maybe I just got a bad one, but in the past 11 months, I have had to ...

Pros: Lots of extras for the price, runs great, good power for the size of car. Cons: MPG could be better, Rear tends to sag, styling not the best. The Bottom Line: Great car for college students or family's in price, features, and reliability. Very Practical car, but it has the characteristics of much more then that.
I'm in my third year of college and last year my 1990 dodge spirit died. I needed a car that was cheap, reliable and could fit all my stuff to make it up to school. I never dreamed to get a car with A Mach stereo system, power every thing, 200 horse ...

Pros: Roomy, comfortable Cons: Standard engine a little noisy The Bottom Line: Recommended.
I bought my 1999 Sable used in 02/01 with 20,000 miles on it. It's a lot of car for the money, very comfortable and easy to drive. The standard 6 gives adequate power, but is a little noisy under acceleration. However, it's very quiet and smooth at...

Pros: No other problems. Big, loud, and fast. Cons: ABS, sensor, battery drain, struts The Bottom Line: Not worth the small problems despite a reliable engine.
Got a great deal with the car, $4700 in 2005 at 45k miles. Overall, this car is decent, but has many annoying problems. I have had no serious engine problems, but I have read about many transmissions breaking down after a few years. 1. ABS is ...

DURATEC

Pros: Power, ride, leather seats. Cons: No traction control, torque steer
I own a 1999 Sable that I purchased for the wife to replace an aging BMW. The DURATEC motor is nearly flawless with great power and good fuel economy ~28mpg hwy overall avg 22 mpg. I say nearly flawless as the ford designers found it necessary to wedge the air intake silencer (which btw reduces engine noise)into the fenderwell and it actually restricts the motors power as the 200 HP motor breathes through a hole not more than 1 1/4 inches in diam. Remove this and add a K&N filter and the motor comes alive (220+HP) and turns the car into a rocket. Also changes the full throttle sound from a whine to a V8 like roar. The car is a pleasure to drive on 1000 mile trips, handles well and has a very good sound system (especially for stock). Styling is not as sporty as the Taurus but the luxury refinements of the sable more than compensates. Overall a great car for the money. Would definitely buy another.

Pros: Very dependable. Decent gas mileage. Well built. Cons: None
I've owned this car since 2000. I've put 85000 miles on it since then. The only issue I've had since I bought it was the sunroof got stuck. It was covered under the factory warranty, so it was not a big deal to me. This car is very dependable. Besides routine maintenance I haven't had to fix anything on the car.
