Pros: roomy Cons: lemon costly repairs poor quality The Bottom Line: Do not buy, do not lease, do not test drive, do not even think about it.
I've owned a Pontiac Montana for about 2 years now and have finally hit my limit of frustration on this. In the past 3 months I've dropped about $2000 into this on repairs to the AC, brakes, belt tensioner, and air bag system.

Pros: Reasonable gas mileage. Style, comfortable to drive. Cons: Expensive repairs for a newer vehicle. The Bottom Line: Install better manifolds, solve the problem of the gasket leaking. Design the sliding tracks so dirt cannot obstruct the wheels from sliding smoothly. Mirror on visor with light.
I bought my 1999 Transporter in 2001 and it had 42,000 miles. Luckily I took out the extended warranty as it had some very expensive repairs. The rear wiper motor, ($700 Canadian), manifold over $1200 Canadian and odd little things. Even though I ... read more

Pros: Great body style, roomy, low road noise, excellent handling, good gas millage. Cons: Buy the extended warranty you will need it. The Bottom Line: I recommend, for the price and reliability.
I have had the van for about a year now. I purchased the Montana used from a local gm car dealer. It had very low mill age 25k. An elderly couple owned it and it sat in their driveway. Got a good price for it and also purchased their deluxe extended ... read more

Pros: Price, features, road feel, convenience Cons: GM electronics The Bottom Line: One of the best cars we've ever owned.
Why we bought it The transmission went out on our '92 Plymouth Voyager, and I had to find a replacement FAST. I liked the looks of the GM clones, and preferred them over Chrysler offerings. The deal I got on the Montana was too good to pass up. ... read more

Pros: Body styling, dual sliding doors, 2nd row captains chairs Cons: Everything but the list of pro's you see above!! The Bottom Line: I do not recommend this model. Numerous mechanical failures, safety issues in braking system. Higher end minivan as far as cost, but not dependable.
We purchased our 99 short wheel base Montana less then 5 months ago for the sum of 12,000.00. We now have nothing but a large monthly payment & insurance costs and heart ache for our large investment in this used vehicle. As of yesterday we are ... read more

Pros: Engine is powerful. Handling is good. Very roomy. Power options are nice. Good looking vehicle. Cons: Power sliding door too sensitive. Slightly noisy in the passenger compartment. Ride is sorta rough. The Bottom Line: I recommend this vehicle for anyone who is in the market for a minivan that doesn't break your bank. It's a nice looking vehicle with plenty of options.
I bought my 1999 Pontiac Montana (pre-owned) as a replacement for my aging (1991) family car and to cart along my growing family (two kids – so far – under age 2.5).The vehicle was GM Certified Used, so it came with a 3 month/3,000 bumper to ... read more

Pros: comfy seats, lots of room Cons: everything not mentioned above The Bottom Line: Run away if someone trys to sell you this van.
Stay away from this van!!!
This van is a company van and is in the shop more than it is at the company. Our company got the van from our sister company in early winter 2001 so I can't comment on the first year and half of the vans life.

Pros: Quiet, smooth, stylish Cons: Interior plastic is of a low quality The Bottom Line: Smooth, quiet, dependable van for a growing family. Seats eight with room to spare. A nice van for the money.
I purchased my 1999 Pontiac Montana used, and it's been a far better vehicle than my previous mini-van (a 1993 Dodge Caravan LE).
What most impresses me is the quietness of the engine and the handling. At times, I've attempted to start the ... read more

The Bottom Line: This van is great for families with young kids. Most problems encountered are minor. Great MPG and versatility. Options can be pricey.
I have owned an Extended 4 Dr Montana for 2 years now. It is great on the highway for ride and gas mileage (26mpg). It has had only minor problems thus far. The original OEM tires are not the best, but they are okay. Stopping distances are too long, but ... read more

Pros: Great Looks, very comfortable seats, Power Sliding door Cons: Only one power sliding door The Bottom Line: Lease or buy it! A fun car that handles like a car (Grand AM chasis). When my friends and I go out, everyone just naturally piles in to my Montana.
I leased the 1999 Montana in all silver and I have to tell you I am very pleased with this van. It's been a year and a half and here's my story.
Not everything about this van is perfect but the problems are really only minor.

Pros: Drives like a car, tons of room, 21 MPG Cons: Some maintenance required- Extended warranty recommended The Bottom Line: Lots of amenities, comfortable, great functionality, 21 MPG, but have had 6-7 defects/repairs (under warranty) in first 50K miles. Look for used vehicle, but purchase extended warranty
I must admit that my first desire was to purchase an SUV. I didn't like the idea of a "minivan" because it wasn't as cool. Now I just laugh at all those SUV drivers because I know that they missed the boat. I purchased the 1999 Montana with nearly ... read more
