Pros: Driveability, safety, cargo, design, fun factor Cons: Potential little issues, torque steer, weak image (is that a con or a pro?) The Bottom Line: Swedish Style, Performance and Safety, It's probably a love a hate thing though, so test drive one and see for yourself.
I love my Saab!- whew, I needed to get that out.
You may not believe I could feel that strongly about a car, and you’d be wrong. Oh sure, it has a couple of faults, but accepting these faults is what love’s all about, right?
Yes I...

Pros: Ammenities, seats, handling and gas mileage. Cons: Cowl shake, poor rearview visibility. The Bottom Line: A great car that is quiet, handles well, with a ride that is compliant most of the time.
This review is for a 1999 9-3SE convertible with an automatic transmission. It was bought as a replacement for another car I owned and reviewed also, a 1988 Mercedes Benz 560SL which was a great car. The Saab can definitely spoil you, especially the SE...

Pros: Torque, rarity, performance, economy, torque Cons: torgue steer, semi pricey to maintain The Bottom Line: One of 400 ever made, from the seats, turbo goodness, great looks, 30mpg highway, build quality, hatchback practicality, cheap insurance..what else could you ask for?
I am a car enthusiast who has owned more then one Saab and a couple of sports cars over the years. I have become rather familair with my most recent purchase, my Viggen and will give some good information for prospective buyers. This car is really ...

Pros: Fun, Understated, Great Value Cons: See above
I had always promised myself that, if I was single on my 30th Birthday, I would buy myself a Porsche 911. Not a new fancy Porsche mind you, but a very used one, mid-80's at the newest. I only needed a weekend car, so who cares about practicality. ...

Pros: Price, luxury, sportiness Cons: Reliability
I purchased an early '99 9-3 about a year and a half ago via Saab's balloon purchase program. I had been considering a number of other cars as well (Audi A4, BMW M3, BMW M roadster), but at $430 a month for an automatic-equipped $38K model, the 9-3...

Pros: Turbo Zip; Huge Cargo Area Cons: Cramped Passenger Area; Reliable?
The Saab 9-3 is a total hoot to drive. We tested the BMW 323i, Volvo S70, Audi A4 and Saab 9-3, and the Saab was the most fun to drive of them all -- which is not to say it was the BEST, but the most fun.
The standard 185-hp turbo four and...

Pros: fuel economy, performance, space, storage, aftermarket, looks, reasonable insurance rates Cons: needs premium fuel, not a big head turner, expensive maintenance The Bottom Line: Get this car and hang on to it! Saab doesn't make this body style anymore!
This Saab is the first "performance car" I have ever owned, and I absolutely love it! My first car was a 93 Ford Taurus, sure it was pretty comfortable for my first car, but it lacked something I was afraid of when I first got it. Reliability. Within ...

Pros: Great drive and reliable Cons: limited rear-visibility
We purchased a 1999 Saab 9-3 just over a year ago and have absolutely loved the car! This has been the most enjoyable car to drive that I have ever owned. When the turbo kicks in, be prepared to zoom past your fellow drivers. I am not a person who...

Pros: Great handling, good acceleration, reasonable insurance and superior lease terms Cons: Pronounced blind spot, poor climate control, CD player prone to skipping, problems with retractable antenna
With my lease on a 1995 Mitsubishi Galant nearing its end, I was looking for a more exciting replacement for an otherwise standard, but extremely reliable four door sedan (in four years all I had to replace was the battery). After briefly considering...

Pros: Seats, trunk, seats, interior layout, seats Cons: Cupholders, changeholder, tires, shifter, radio The Bottom Line: Unreliable, uncontrollable, overpriced, loses $700 a month in resale value.
---APRIL 2002 UPDATE---
As my 3-year lease winds down, I thought I'd write a final update on my experiences with my 1999 Saab 9-3 S.
The heater knob has snapped off for the third time. The rear washer has recently stopped working, and the...

Pros: Price, Styling, Fun to drive Cons: rear leg room
After testing driving and comparing the Audi A4, Nissan Maxima, Volkwagen Passat and the Saab 9.3 the Saab was a clear winner. The car had all of the features and handling that you would expect from a much more expensive car. My decision to lease was...

Pros: Looks nice. Nice features. Peppy manual transmission. Cons: Terrible reliability! Mechanical defects galore. Maintenance costs. *GAG* The Bottom Line: I'm sorry that I ever leased this car. It has been nothing but problems and headaches dealing with the car and the dealership.
Leased a 1999 9-3 standard 4 door hatchback in late 1998. This was one of my "dream cars."
It had lots of nice options. I've greatly enjoyed the heated leather seats in the winter time. Nice safety features including side air bags and...

Pros: Great ride, great value Cons: Urban driving will cause costly repairs
My family decided to lease this car mainly on the basis of a great lease price offered by a neighborhood dealer, but we quickly fell in love with the car. The bottom-line is that it is a lot of fun to drive, it corners well, and has a pick up comparable...

Pros: Great ride, huge storage in the back Cons: Tight rear seat legroom
When my wife's 1987 Toyota Camry finally had to move onto a new home, we researched just about every car on the market and finally narrowed it down to a Volkswagen Passat or Saab 9-3. After spending a few hours with both cars, we were definitely leaning...

Pros: Handling, Speed, Safety Cons: Can't Think of Any
I have been driving Saab's new and totally redesigned 1999 9-3 for just over five months. I previously drove a Saab 900S the precursor model to this car and have noticed the many differences and improvements made in the production of the 9-3. This car...
