All about the 1999 V6 5spd Camry

by
Feb 22, 2013 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun (for a Camry), pretty good fuel mileage
Cons: Boring exterior, seats not supportive enough for long trips
The Bottom Line: Just need cheap and reliable transportation? Camry is a good bet.

It's 2008. I recently just bought a house, the price of fuel is skyrocketing, and coincidentally my little Dakota was involved in a wreck with a one-ton truck. I don't have much cash for a new vehicle. I decide I need to sacrifice the 4wd capability and ... read more

99 Camry in '11

by
Jun 11, 2011 (Not Yet Rated)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable.  Comfortable.  Still going while the others are in the junk yard!!
Cons: Can't think of any!  No new car smell anymore!!!
The Bottom Line: The Camry has a great reputation no matter the year but the '99 is a keeper.

In 2008 I had a 1993 Acura Legend sedan that I'd put 299,877 miles on.  I loved it and I never thought I'd ever want another car!  When I hit the pothole I had to put her down.  I had to find a new car fast and the dealer had a (already ... read more

Old Faithful

May 29, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: the important stuff holds up well
Cons: seatbelts, power locks tend to break with age, but that's normal
The Bottom Line: A reliable no-frills car, will get you where you need to go for years.

I've had this car since 2002, and I love it. It's not pretty anymore, but it runs, even though I neglect oil changes. Some parts don't seem so well-made, the power lock on the rear driver side door hasn't worked for years, but the car still drives ... read more

by
Mar 5, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: nice family car
Cons: none yet
The Bottom Line: buy it if u can

We purchased our 1999 toyota camry LE brand new. That would amount to 9 years of trouble free transportation. While I must admit there was the water pump at 85k(which toyota chipped in half on),other than tires, oil changes,2 batteries, a couple of light ... read more

How Long Can The Most Reliable Vehicle Last?

by
Jun 3, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable
Cons: Not a "cool" car, but do you actually need one?
The Bottom Line: This is the best car if you look for reliability. You will not find a lot of horse powers, but you'll certainly find a good friend to rely upon.

I bought my '99 Camry in 2004 with 78,000 miles on it. Before that I owned Subary Legacy '94 and Taurus '96 and just recently I learned that Ford Taurus is on the 5th place on reliability in JD Power's rating, just behind Camry. My life before ... read more

Two years and 15,000 miles later...

Apr 7, 2007 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Design; features; price; fuel economy.
Cons: Cost of parts.
The Bottom Line: Very much recommended.

When my family's 1993 Hyundai Excel died from a failing transmission, and our 1994 Buick LeSabre fell apart at 104,000 miles, my family decided to go cautious on a "new" car, one that was well-known for long-term reliability. I'm the "researcher" of the ... read more

Very Disappointed in this Car

by
Jun 30, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quiet engine, many features for the price.
Cons: Underpowered with 4 cyl, tinny sounding doors.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the car because I think its a good car. I'm just very disappointed that mine seems to be a lemon.

I am very disappointed with my '99 Camry. I got the car new in the fall of '98 and it now has 40,000 miles. The car has been meticulously maintained but I have still encountered several costly mechanical problems. At about 25,000 miles, the car developed ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very durable and reliable, very nice gas mileage, full-size spare and foldable back seats.
Cons: Can't think of a single one.
The Bottom Line: This is a great all-around car for an excellent price and you really cannot go wrong.

I've owned this car for over three years and is a wonderful vehicle. I bought it used without any warranty from a Toyota dealership. My previous cars have been a VW Jetta, a Chrysler Minivan and a VW Rabbit and I think Toyota in general blows all my ... read more

The truth about camry's

by
May 19, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: At least it starts
Cons: Seats are very uncomfortable
The Bottom Line: These cars are not what they're cracked up to be. Anything else would be a better choice

How did camry's get this big reputation. I own one and I'm sorry I bought it. The seats are very uncomfortable, the driving position is wrong. The steering wheel is too far forward while the foot pedals are too close to you. They assume a person has long ... read more

Comfy ride but time hasn't aged the Camry well

by
Nov 8, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Roomy and Comfortable. Great Mileage.
Cons: More wear and tear than I am used to in a Toyota.
The Bottom Line: This being a 99, check out a older or later model.

We bought our 99 Camry 5-speed manual a couple years ago used, and from this vantage point, we see many of the pros and cons. First off, we have the CE model, which limits the bells and whistles, or so I thought. And the car is the 4 cylinder model. ... read more

by
Jan 16, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: tough, comfortable, V-6 offers decent acceleration
Cons: not a sport sedan, not a head turner
The Bottom Line: I recommend it for people who need a trouble-free ride and don't much care about styling or sporty performance.

This is my first Japanese car and what I think of MOST when i think of this car is one word, "tough". I don't know a lot about the engineering involved but what I do know is this: While driving on the HOV lane at the speed limit I hit a large piece ... read more

Sep 1, 2003 - Updated Feb 12, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Good gas mileage, big trunk
Cons: Nothing to look at...a repair trap
The Bottom Line: I would not buy one again. The noise in the back end of the car is very irritating.

I bought my Camry because other co-workers already had and they liked their car. The body style isn't very exciting but I knew that buying it. The dash plastic is not durable and scratches easily. The biggest complaint I have about the car is that my ... read more

Pros: A/C works well(so far), was quieter than most (in the beginning)
Cons: Check engine light is an on going problem as well as other problems noted below
The Bottom Line: I would not buy another Toyota. You shouldn't either unless you enjoy spending your vacation getting it fixed.

I came here looking to see if anyone else had been having the same problems with their 1999 Camry an ... read more

Pros: Reliability, Pep of the 4cyl, Comfort, Convenient Features (see review for more)
Cons: Factory brakes should be replaced with higher quality ceramic brake pads
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend purchasing a Camry. Reliability, luxury, comfort, style, and practicality all in one.

I just bought a 1999 Toyota Camry LE a couple months ago. I make a point of doing my research before I make any large purchase and this car has to be the most bang for the buck. It's basically the #1 most reliable care on the market. It's also very ... read more

Pros: Luxury drive, good fuel economy, and reliability you can count on.
Cons: little weak on acceleration
The Bottom Line: Don't be tempted by great deals on new cars, because you still can get much more for your money on slightly used cars. This car rides and feels great.
