Pros: Design, Interior headroom, Interior material, Gas mileage, Safety Cons: Service, Very short warranty, Little problems here & there, headache. The Bottom Line: Not the best car, but definitely an eye-opener. 10 year/100K mile warranty doesn't cover jack crap.
THE 1999 VW PASSAT GLS 1.8L TURBO (Manual Transmission): I purchased this car brand new at Rey Reece VW/Oldsmobile/Isuzu in Portland, Oregon on January 1999. It wasn't the exact model nor the color that I wanted. My choice was a silver 1.8 liter ...

Pros: solid, extremely powerful, fun, safe, upscale car for a reasonable price Cons: cup holder is silly The Bottom Line: This car has a nice balance of power, utility, luxury, fun and affordability. We are very sad to let Buttercup go and hope she finds a good home.
We purchased the 1999 Volkswagen Passat (Buttercup) new in November of 1998. We are trading the car on a new Eurovan and are terribly sad to loose this car. At the time we were shopping for this car, we were considering the Maxima, Mazda 626 and the...

Pros: The absolute best car I have ever owned. Cons: Some minor QA issues are present in the construction. The Bottom Line: The Passat is a great car. Even with the minor problems, I will purchase the next one after my lease it over.
I first saw the newly redesigned Passat in 1998 and I was taken aback. I had owned a beetle in the early nineties, a '76, which I loved...but the Passat never caught my eye. While the bug was just plain cool, the Passat was an eyesore in my eyes....

Pros: great handling, distinct styling, affordable tiptronic transmission Cons: Reliability unproven
I've had this car for quite some time now and have loved every bit of it. Who says nice German cars cost too much money?
I wanted something different from the crowd of Japanese cars out there. Looks wise it is a winner but that is not the only...

Pros: Excellent gas mileage, Fun to drive, Large cargo area Cons: Poor warranty, Severe mechanical problems The Bottom Line: Although new Passats (2002) offer a better warranty I would not recommend purchasing one. Mechanical and electrical problems abound and the service is abysmal.
See New Information at the bottom of this review added 6/17/2002.
I purchased my 1999 vehicle new in July of 1998. I bought the V6 GLS with a package that included alloy wheels, moonroof, an integrated rear window sunshade, heated side...

Pros: style, interior function, Tiptronics Cons: upgrade in rims tough
The VW Passat is a great drivers car. I personally am a hard driver on vehicles and I love the Passat. It has a stiff suspension to take corners hard, yet is smooth on straight roads. The look of the Passat is also very great. The smooth lines and...

Pros: great driver's sedan - thoughtfully finished Cons: bad cupholders and sticky seats
I have been a happy owner of a colorado red vw passat for the past year and have grown to love it more with each passing month. When searching for a vehicle, my wife and i decided we wanted a mid-sized sedan for our next car as we were moving far from...

Pros: Great handling, Roomy & comfortable, and looks like a million bucks! Cons: Limited Warranty The Bottom Line: This car is a great value for the money. It is a Audi without all the luxury options. It will last its owner a very long time.
Before my husband and I purchased the Volkswagen Passat Wagon we did extensive research on it. We also had a Volkswagen Jetta and really liked it, so that is one of the reasons we were sticking with Volkswagen.
The first thing that I noticed...

Pros: Great looking (especially in Silver), smooth ride Cons: None to date
I am not the type to buy in to all sorts of stereo types but one that I have found to be pretty accurate, at least in my own experience, is that women are not good drivers. In particular, my wife has a tough time behind the wheel. Its not for a lack of...

I have to say that I love my Passat.

Pros: great styling and value Cons: needs a stronger engine
The volkswagon passat is one of the best deals for a mid size car on the road today. This car comes with most options built into the price, and the few options that are available are pretty reasonable. The car handles like a dream, but i prefer a...

Pros: Hot interior lights, loud stock system, great braking and handling capabilities, nice, smooth ride. Cons: Only a slight delay when shifting gears in tiptronic, only because theres no clutch
The '99 Vw Passat is an incredible car, equipped with a 30 V, 190 Horse Engine, and tiptronic, this car can certainly move at high speeds. The most distinct features have to be the remarkable handling and braking capabilities. As a new driver, I found ...
