I was just trying to troubleshoot a problem I was having with my 2000 BMW 323i and I came across an e-pinion user who mentioned a similar problem in his/her review. As I read, I started to think that the reviewer's myriad problems with the car sounded ... read more

If You Know What You're Getting You Won't Be Dissapointed

by
Jun 10, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun factor, attention to detail during design, quality, safety, resale value.
Cons: Possibly expensive maintenance after warranty expires. You're branded a jerk just cause you own one.
The Bottom Line: They aren't perfect and you will experience problems. Take your 4 year/50k mile warranty and relax. You'll be rewarded with a very fun and impressive ride for the $$.

BMW/Mercedes/Porsche all have some mystique about being this super car for some people. None of these cars defy any physical laws whatsoever. They do not fly, drive across water, burrow through mountains, or exceed super-sonic speed if you press a ... read more

Pros: Solid, peppy 2.8 liter engine, precise handling, bright headlights, comfortable seats.
Cons: Needs occasional tuning/maintenance, all your friends want to drive it.
The Bottom Line: It's not your ordinary sports sedan... it's a BMW.

WHY A 3-SERIES BIMMER? My 99 VW Passat was on its last leg and I was desperately seeking a new car. With VWs bolded on my black list, I was ready to venture on to newer and better things. My wife has a 2002 Honda Accord, and to this day, ... read more

328ci An Objective Look on a Car That Could be Fantastic, or Just Ok...

by
Nov 30, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A fanastic balance of luxury and fun- A great driver's car with refinement
Cons: Price/premium, need the premium&sport package. Too much luxury for some
The Bottom Line: I shopped and shopped and shopped, with alot of options. The 328ci did it all for me as a wonderful second car. I love it. Enough said.

I'm going to try and do something with this review that hasn't been done yet: Take an objective look at the 328ci as a potential buyer of a used 5-speed manual in great condition. I truly hope this is the most helpful review you ever read about this ... read more

Definitely NOT Recommended

by
Jul 1, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Comfortable seats & ride; nice stereo
Cons: Poor quality; recurring problems; airbags deployed inadvertently
The Bottom Line: Don't buy BMW. I have serious concerns about the integrity of the airbag systems used on their cars. Furthermore, I was extremely disappointed by BMW's response to the airbag deployment.

Bought our 2000 328i new from the dealer. Enjoyed driving the car but had what I would consider exce ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stick-to-the-road-reliabilty, stop-on-a-dime, power-when-you-need-it car
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Power, more than enough (watch your speed, it doesn't feel as fast as the radar will show!), comfortable, reliable, pure fun to drive, plenty of room for passengers and cargo.

This being my first contribution to e-pinions, I don't want it to be somethign negative; the most positive comments I have to make is about my car, a 2000 BMW 323 iTouring. I'm female, mid-fifties, and have driven domestic and import cars for the ... read more

I just bought my 2000 BMW 323i a week ago, and it is everything I expected it to be and more. The 2.5 liter 6 cylinder engine provides plenty of speed for me (I am coming out of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 6 cylinder). Back in the ... read more

by
Feb 14, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: handling, interior design,
Cons: too many problems, major quality issues
The Bottom Line: If you like visiting the shop every couple of months then go ahead and buy a 3 series.

I have been visiting the BMW shop quite often since I ordered my 2000 328Ci. 30K miles and many problems, the latest one topped it all off. Water leaks! That's right...my floor panel on the driver's side was soaked when it rained. Other problems are as ... read more

323i check engine light

by
Feb 6, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty and somewhat luxurious for a reasonable price
Cons: Finicky check engine light
The Bottom Line: I recomend it as a starter car. Not big enough for a family.

My check engine light comes on about twice a month. It happens because the gas cap is not on tight enough. When I put it on I make sure that it is secure. It must come loose because it keeps happening. It happens about 50 miles after I have filled the ... read more

by
Jan 19, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, Powerful, Strong, Safe, German
Cons: Gas could be an issue
The Bottom Line: Fast, Safe,BMW service #1, sound system=Awesome. I LOVE IT. Buy this car now. Over an Audi, Volkswagen or and simmilar Japanese Car. Its money well spend.

When I hear the words "German Efficiency" I think of three letters B! M! W!. I purchased a 2000 Red 323i BMW and ohhhh do I love driving it. This car hugs the road like a Russian Bear. I have never slid or spun out and that really show the effort that ... read more

The Bottom Line: It's a great car, but plagued with numerous problems.

My 2000 323Ci is a great car, but its been so troublesome after only 20,000 miles that I would have sold it over a year ago (only 22 months old now) but I can't get a good price for it. Let me list all the problems I have had with the car and ... read more

The Benchmark

by
Aug 7, 2001 - Updated Aug 16, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: BMW feel and quality.
Cons: Price a little higher than competition
The Bottom Line: The 323Ci sets the bar for the near luxury sport coupe. one of the lowest priced BMW's, it is definitely, not watered down.

The BMW 3 series has long been the class yardstick. All other car makers try to compare their cars favorably to the 3, but BMW has been up to the task and continues to raise the bar. My exposure to the 323Ci is limited to the two short test drives I ... read more

The Affordable BMW

by
Aug 1, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great handling good acceleration fair price
Cons: not greatest fuel efficiency noticeably the lowest BMW class
The Bottom Line: If youre not pulling six figures quite yet, but know youre headed there, get the 3 series till you can find the money for a Z8.

With the 3 series being on the bottom, the car doesn't carry quite the same burden as a 700, but the quality and performance are clearly not so refined as well. If you're not raking in six figures quite yet, but know youre heading there take the 300. ... read more

Cons: German Quality may not be what it used to be !
The Bottom Line: Is BMW really "The Ultimate Driving Machine”? After my experience I think not.

I have owned other BMW's in the past without many problems so I decided to buy a new 2000 323I to replace my 528I. Here is my first complaint: Here is a new car with only 22,149 miles on it and my brake warning light comes on. I take my car ... read more

Pros: Fun to drive, very luxurious, and excellent buy for the money.
Cons: Quality control on certain parts, and horrible GPS system.
The Bottom Line: This is the best car I've ever owned, and look forward to getting another BMW (330i) next year.

This is the first BMW I ever bought, and i have to say that I really have never driven a car that is more fun to drive, than this one. The handling is fantastic, and the features that BMW puts into it shows forethought, and anticipates needs. ... read more
