Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Terrific value, low ownership costs, everybody fixes Chevys
Cons: Few amenities, uninspired three-speed transmission,
The Bottom Line: It's bold to drive a little car these days. Be Bold. If you set your expectations reasonably, the Metro won't disappoint.

Introduction Having driven this car for two months and 3,000 miles now, in winter and summer driving, I have concluded that I am very happy with my purchase. The Metro is cheap to drive, and not at cramped or wimpy as I thought it would ... read more

Dec 31, 2001 - Updated Jun 29, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Excellent gas mileage.
Cons: Expensive for what you get, Anemic 1.0 liter engine, Tiny Interior.
The Bottom Line: This car is not recommended for anyone. There are much better cars out that get almost as good gas mileage, with less compromise.

The Chevy Metro/Suzuki Swift Came out in the 1980s as a 'super econobox', and surprisingly has survived all the way to the year '2001, surviving this long; despite the ridicule its owners get for owning a car in this class. The Geo had been ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Good acceleration, no trouble on hills
Cons: Lots of design flaws
The Bottom Line: Though the engine quality may be good, I don't consider this a safe car to drive.

I am going to break my own rule and review a car I don't own. This is because I have been driving this car for the last three weeks, as a rental, while my "real" car gets repaired from the wreck I was in. There are enough problems with this car, I felt ... read more

Jun 19, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Roomy, relatively inexpensive.
Cons: sluggish, poor handling, ugly interior.
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend the Chevy Metro. It is not all that well made, is vastly under-powered and steering is stiff.

My experience with the Chevy Metro is strictly as a rental car and I suppose that it is possible that I simply got a stripped down version, but I doubt it. The interior was grey and downright ugly. Another strike against the interior is the lack of cup ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: cute, efficient, cheap
Cons: your friends will laugh, gas mileage not as good as hoped

In summation: - I like this car and am glad I bought it, although I probably would recommend someone go with a better equipped car like a Hyundai Excel or a better car maker like Toyota and the new Echo. I own a 2000 4dr ... read more

Pros: Mileage, Style, Cost, Fun to drive
Cons: Service, Parts availability, Transmission

I purchased the Metro to make a 120 mile roundtrip drive to work, my requirements were air conditioning, a 5 speed transmission, and the 1.0 motor to maximize gas mileage. The fact that it also had the stereo cassette upgrade radio makes the ... read more

Pros: Cheap, well made, excellent gas mileage
Cons: My own neglect, no place for your beer

I’m writing this to all of those who said my little car would leave me dead, if I were ever in an accident. Wrong! Never mind that the car was totaled, I wasn’t. This is the story of me, and my two little Metros. (Metro #1, 1996 hatchback, #2, 1998 LSI ... read more

I believe the expression is... "When iMotors.com tries to sell you lemons, you make lots of lemonade for the rental car agency." That is what brought me to this car. Unfortunately, saying "I think I can, I think I can," won't let you ... read more

Pros: Great on gas and a great economical value
Cons: People who drive them think they can do anything they want

In the next few paragraphs I will explain why Chevy/Geo Metros should be taken off of the market. First of all, I have to make it 100% clear that there is nothing technologically wrong with these cars, I think that they are very economical cars and I ... read more

Sep 14, 2000 - Updated Apr 8, 2004 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Decent gas mileage. Excellent headroom. 22.3 cubic inches total storage space.
Cons: It's an economy car, and it shows it.
The Bottom Line: Only recommended to those who need a compact car and can't afford others like the Dodge Neon, Honda Civic, and other compacts.

I bought this vehicle because I needed a car to replace my dying 1988 Ford Taurus. The Taurus was looking like it was going to need ANOTHER transmission, so I quickly swapped it in back in April for a Chevy Metro. Ouch. When I bought the car I ... read more

Pros: I don't see any pros with this car unless you don't have a problem with your love one being hurt
Cons: Seat collapses when involved in a rear end collision

My husband sustained back injuries when he was rearended in the 1997 Geo Metro he was driving. The front seat collapsed when he was hit from behind. The car sustained very little damage although my husband may be limited now to what he can and can't do. ... read more

Cons: Slow; No Frills; Avoid Suspension Bridges

Back in 1995, I had just graduated from college, and was saddled with a 10-year-old car worth about $250 and a Whopper on the open market. I toyed with the idea of buying the most inexpensive new car I could, to try to avoid the cost of repairs. One ... read more

Pros: Great gas mileage, extremely safe, very well built with almost no what so ever
Cons: Small car with very little room in the back seat
