Tough, Trendy Tracker

by bradjenbeau
Jul 1, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, Stylish, Economical, Handles great, A nice SUV.
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: If you are in the market for an SUV and you want to go easy on the pocket book, buy a tracker. If you have unlimited funds, buy three trackers.

I bought my Chevrolet Tracker because I needed a bigger vehicle and preferred a four wheel drive. I use my Tracker to deliver mail on a rural route. I chose a tracker because I already own a 1992 model and it is the best vehicle I had owned thus far. My ... read more

May 30, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quite, great suspension, Powerful four cylinder engine.
Cons: Not actually shift on the fly, poor winter traction, poor transmission performance, slow.
The Bottom Line: If your looking for a great USED SUV, I'd say go for the Tracker. If you want a new SUV look into the Hyundai Santa Fe or Subaru Forester.

I bought this truck in a year end clearance sale, needed something to replace my gas-sucking, falling apart 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L. I live in Michigan and the Winter could be driving hell.. sometimes 3 feet of snow on the road. HERE ARE ... read more

The best "little" SUV out there!

by kingpole
Jan 22, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stylish & FUN!
Cons: Quality of interior.
The Bottom Line: This is the little SUV to have when you can pop off the top and go!! Smooth ride, fun to drive, and great to look at.

The 2 door model is very stylish and a total blast to drive. I only wish the engine had a little more oomph to it. Although, I do get great gas mileage. I must say that this is my 2nd Tracker. I lost my 1995 version to a 35 mph head on collision. No ... read more

Oct 26, 2000 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cute-compact-handles good in snow
Cons: handles poorly in wind

I've had my 2000 Tracker for 1 year. I would recommend this vehicle, however it doesn't handle well in the wind. It handles very good in snow and we get alot of that in WI. The wind noise in minimal and the radio system is good. There is alot of room ... read more

Oct 16, 2000 - Updated Oct 16, 2009 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Value, visibility, trim and finish quality. High reliability.
Cons: Small engine = moderate power.
The Bottom Line: An excellent second or third vehicle. Good value, and economical entry into SUVs. Excellent for teaching a teen to drive. No problems; great performance.

It is now October 2009, and the Tracker is still chugging along great.  We now have 115,000 miles on it and the only repair since my update in 2008 was replacing the starter.  While the starter did not fail entirely, it only locked up and ... read more

Like a Small Rock

Sep 10, 2000 - Updated Feb 4, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Price, Styling, Versatile
Cons: Quality, Other Choices, Engine, Ride, Noise
The Bottom Line: This is a pesky little truck that rides like a old Datsun pickup. Useful space and cute looks are its only pluses.

Ford and Chevy have done a great job in offering their customer a full range of trucks. In the past, most automakers offered one, or maybe two trucks (usually a full-size, and a compact) . These days Chevrolet has 5 or 6 trucks for sale, and that ... read more

by Scott207
Aug 6, 2000 - Updated Nov 16, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Solid, comfortable, economical, real part-time 4wd.
Cons: size (sometimes), more power nice but not Needed
The Bottom Line: A very good little truck for those that want decent fuel economy. If you are tall and have any children it will likely become your "second" vehicle.

I live in southern Maine, USA. I have a quarter-mile of dirt road to travel plus a long driveway before reaching my house. We don't normally get as much snow as you may think, but our road can become impassible. The plow can't always ... read more

Pros: Roomy family car, with a great look

We recently purchased a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker and were impressed with it's handling capabilities, and it's roomy interior. But unfortunately, the vehicle lacks one very important thing...power. While driving on a freeway in New Mexico we ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: sporty, fun, small, great gas mileage
Cons: wind with the windows down

I decided after graduation, I wanted a new car -- kind of like a present for myself (and my fiance). So, I went on a search -- I found the Tracker to be fun, sporty, and big enough to pack everything for camping, while still being small enough for me to ... read more

Jul 9, 2000 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: price is nice
Cons: problems with the cruise-control

I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. You can not drive over hills with this vehicle, if you are using your cruise control. They believe it is a factory glitch, that they have been working on for some time. Chevy says that the cruise ... read more

Jun 15, 2000 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: More dependable than Older Trackers
Cons: Engine Blew after 17000 miles

Yeah, you read the title correctly. I blew the engine on my Tracker. I was on my way to work one morning, and it just died on me. Mind you, I bought the car brand new not even 6 months ago, and the engine dies with 17000 miles on it? Is that right? ... read more

Jun 9, 2000 - Updated Jul 3, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks like an SUV,its cute, its fun to convertible
Cons: mostly everything else
The Bottom Line: I would actually avoid it, especially for newer drivers, unless you enjoy a challenge when driving, and DONT GET HIT, ESPECIALLY if YOU HAVE A PASSENGER

I have to preface this re-write by apologizing for my naivete and infatuation with my new car. These things, along with my inexperience driving blinded me into reviewing the 2 door 2000 Chevy Tracker positively. I have to take back that review just over ... read more

Imitation Jeep

Apr 20, 2000 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: None
Cons: Little Power, Not worth the money

The Chevy Tracker, is nothing but a cheap imitation of a Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler actually looks rugged and like it is meant for Off-Road, while the Chevy Tracker looks to sporty to have 4-Wheel drive. And a tracker has no where near the power ... read more

by jtfourh
Jan 5, 2000 - Updated May 25, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Bigger inside than it looks, drives nice, good visibility
Cons: back seat a bit small, cruise control on hills, lug nuts break
The Bottom Line: The price for this is pretty decent for the options you receive. At 50k miles, I've replaced 5 lug nuts, wheel bearings, and rear brakes.

REVISION NOTE 5/25/01: GO AHEAD AND READ MY ORIGINAL WRITEUP IF YOU WANT FIRST--THIS REVISION IS A (almost) 50K MILE UPDATE. --I've noticed a disturbing trend: five broken lug nuts when rotating tires. My local tire store cringes everytime I walk ... read more
