I Love this Truck!!! But Hate Dodge Service!!!

by Choco52678
Apr 23, 2003 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Plenty of Space, comfy ride, BIG Magnum Engine
Cons: Transmissions problems, ball-joint problems, gas guzzler
The Bottom Line: Buy this truck, but beware of the service plan before purchasing it. Take it in and have everything checked out by a non Dodge dealer if possible.

I love this this truck. The Doge Dakota Quad Cab is spacious, comfy seats, everything in arms length, and provides a quiet ride. My husband and I purchased this truck used in 2001. We had no problems with it until roughly around 30,000 miles started ... read more

The Ideal All-around Vehicle

by chemie
Dec 27, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good power, spacious interior, reasonable height and length, good ride height.
Cons: Brake rotors warp easily, elevated level of engine maintenance required, no front access to frame.
The Bottom Line: Don't hesitate to buy it. It is as versatile as it seems and has relatively few problems.

I consider the Dakota Quad Cab 4X4 to be the ideal vehicle. It has the guts of a pick-up truck coupled with the comfort of a luxury car. I have had my truck for about 2 and a half years (42000 miles) and have never regretted my original decision to ... read more

Nov 30, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great head & leg room. Power in 4.7L Magnum V8. Multi tasking.
Cons: Those tires just keep wearing out. Gas hog.
The Bottom Line: I really love this truck, it has done everything we have wanted it to, we all fit in comfort, and it looks great.

In the summer of 2000, when my '85 Chrysler New Yorker was costing more to keep running than it was worth, I started the discouraging process of trying to find a car that fit my budget and also fit my family. As a 5'4" female I can ride in anything. The ... read more

Shifting Problem / Gas Mileage

by avajane
Aug 1, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice looking truck gets a lot of looks. Stronger than a standard mini truck.
Cons: Mileage/ Unresolved shifting problem
The Bottom Line: I'd avoid it unless they will acknowledge the shifting problem and have a solution for it.

I traded in my 97 Ford F350 Diesel for this new Quad cab and have gotten mixed results. I like the smaller size and since I don't need to haul or carry much weight - the truck makes lots of sense for my business and our family. It goes camping well with ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Hauls 6, rides great, convenience, looks
Cons: Short bed, V8 gas mileage
The Bottom Line: AN SUV with true truck capabilities!

I owned a regular cab '87 Dodge Dakota until early 2002. Purchased a 2000 Dakota Quad cab for its convenience, looks, passenger room, and hauling capability. I have three friends that own V8 models, and all three report gas mileage of 12 mpg, in town, ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 4 full size doors.
Cons: Gas hog
The Bottom Line: Love it.

I don't have a family to tote around, just my dog. I wanted the 4 door truck to have easy access to the back seat. I love the ease of the four doors. I got it fully loaded. I haven't had any major problems with the truck. A piece of molding came lose, ... read more

Best Four-Door Pickup Out There

by goody2shoesmhs
Mar 13, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, Space, Comfort, Four full doors, and Handling
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: I think the 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab is the best mid-sized truck out there: it's versatile and dependable. Overall, this is the best truck I have ever owned.

I test drove a Ford Ranger and an Isuzu Hombre before I chose my 2000 Dakota Quad Cab. I found that their engines did not deliver as much as power as the Dakota, and the ride was not as smooth. The 3.9 Liter V6 gives you the right amount of power ... read more

A great concept, but I just had to pass on this one...

Nov 6, 2001 - Updated Nov 7, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Fits five people comfortably and safely, with hauling capacity of a truck.
Cons: Lacks power, interior feels cramped.
The Bottom Line: A great concept that others might like, I just didn't. If you are looking into getting this, I recommend getting the V8 engine.

A few months ago, my life partner and I decided that we were going to have a baby, and that the truck I had at the time (a Chevy S10 extended cab) was too small for our newest edition. Sure, we had yet to even visit the sperm bank, but I was getting a ... read more

Aug 13, 2001 - Updated Jan 10, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great looks, great power, excellent ride and handling
Cons: sloppy 5 speed transmission (corrected), gas mileage
The Bottom Line: An excellent compromise between load and passenger carrying ability. Great handling and driving vehicle. Looks good too.

I bought my 2000 QC in May 2000. I compared it to a Ford Super Crew. The day I test drove there were very high crosswinds on the highway. The Ford (a 4-wheel drive) was pushed all over the lane. The Dodge however, was rock steady. This turns out to ... read more

Dec 14, 2000 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great truck for the size and handling
Cons: squeaks

The Dodge Dakota quad cab is a great vehicle to own for many reasons. It has more room in the interior than the Ram extended cab. It also is a good vehicle because you have the room of a larger vehicle but you can get around so much easier. The ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great vehicle
Cons: Can't think of a thing

We were not in the market for a truck at all, let alone a Dodge. My husband and I set out one day to find me a new vehicle, and ending up finding what I considered at first to be a new toy for my husband. We had never bought a Dodge before but ... read more

Best Mid-Sized 4 door pickup

Oct 25, 2000 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice options, Large back doors, full rear window roll down, towing ease
Cons: None

I shopped long and hard for a new truck. The full sized trucks were too big to fit in my garage and be able to walk around it with the door closed. As I looked at smaller trucks, there were few to choose from. Most were imports and with the extra doors, ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: comfort, power,
Cons: blind spots created by the mirrors and and the molding between the windshield and front door. There are no hooks under the front bumper for tying loads.

Has anyone experienced that the Dakota pickup scratches easily? The first time I put it through the car wash the brush left scratches on the paint. After 6 months it looks worse than any other truck I've ever owned. I bought this truck to be used as a ... read more

Pros: Functionality, Looks, Handling, Interior room, Feel, Comfort, Stereo
Cons: Magnum 4.7 is a little thirsty, but well worth it!

Today's family lifestyles have become complex, and our family, with dogs and kids, is no exception. This is my first Dodge in 30 years of owning vehicles. I've always been a GM man, so I didn't just jump into this 'fat, dumb and happy'. After several ... read more

Cons: Truck bed size for large loads

There is not a single truck currently out on the market that offers the power (4.7L V-8) or (5.9L V-8), the interior room, looks, or the value ($19,000 to 24,500 totally loaded) as the Dodge Dakota QuadCab. One test drive will give you the ... read more
