Pros: Long life, great gas mileage. Cons: Very Ugly, 4 cylinders, noisy fuel pump. The Bottom Line: The Escort is not a favorite for many on this site. I personally despise this vehicle to look at. Gas mileage and overall durability rate very high in my book.
I have to begin with a disclaimer- there is no listing for the Ford Escort prior to 1992. There was a Mazda/Ford integration in 1991 and all models beyond this date had significant changes in body style as well as engine specifications so some of the...

Pros: Adequate Power, Solid Handling Cons: Noisy, Stiff Seats
I requested Budget Rent a Car for a Toyota Tercel during my 5 days in Illinois and Indiana recently, but instead, ended up with a green, 2000 Ford Escort 4 door with 4000 miles on the odometer. I was somewhat excited because this was like test driving a...

Pros: Great mileage, reliable Cons: Noisy interior, minimal rear legroom The Bottom Line: Highly recommended for a young driver's first car
UPDATE:
Since I wrote this review, I have gotten rid of this car and replaced it with a Nissan Sentra SE-R.
(Note that this review is for the 5-speed manual transmission Escort)
From 1991 to 2000 I drove a Nissan Sentra E, a...

Pros: Better from 1991 on Cons: Don't even consider one older than 1991
I have read many reviews on automobiles from aesthetic, interior, power, warranty, options, etc... points of view. I believe an important, but always neglected area, though is from an undercar point of view, and let me tell you, most people are...

Pros: great on gas and great handling even on ice Cons: small sometimes
I have owned a Ford Escort for a little over eight years. I bought it from a guy I work with and he took good care of it. You know the usual maint. and stuff. The car had 45,000 miles on it then. I gave $2,400 for it and what a steal. I have never had to...

Pros: Fast, nimble, agile, small Cons: Stereo, squeaky window
I bought a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 last month from Vista Ford in Woodland Hills, CA. I had a great experience at this dealership, compared to the other two Ford dealers I visited in the area. The salesman sold me on the automatic version of the ZX2...

Pros: Great gas mileage - both highway and city Cons: It was an old car
In 1992, I bought my first car, and it was a 1981 Ford Escort. I just wanted a little car to drive around town, get groceries, take my son to the doctor, etc., without having to rely on public transportation. It was a little rough around the edges - it...

Pros: Gas Mileage, Durability, Easy to perform maintenance Cons: Lots of electrical problems
Overall, the Ford Escort is a great car, but so long as its newer than a 91. I've personally owned a 1988 Escort GT that I bought used in 94. I loved it when I got it, but after a year of driving it, everything started to go downhill. I took meticulous...

Pros: Very quick, reliable, cheap fun Cons: Economy car styling and amenities
This review comes about mostly as a rebuttal to my wife who insists on comparing her car (a 1995 Honda Civic DX) to mine (1993 Ford Escort GT).
Let us take a look at the individual parts and then the Gestalt whole, shall we?

Pros: Performance and quality for short money Cons: rubbery shifter, loud engine
Best bang for the buck. I spent three months comparing sports coupes and found this to be not only one of the best performing, but one of the least expensive. After everything was said and done, I paid $11,600 for the car. Compared to the Honda...

Pros: Great Price, tons of safety features Cons: none
Yesterday, I bought my first car. I have always owned trucks. But, because of health problems, I needed something small, and easier to drive. I just went from driving my husbands,99 Ford F350 crew cab dually, to this small car. It has so much more power...

Pros: Reliability, ease to drive Cons: REPAIRE COSTS
I have owned to Ford Escort's in my life. I bought these because they were older models and very cheap. I soon found out why they were so cheap. I used my first Escort (an 85 model) to commute over 60 miles to work. I found it to be very easy to...

Pros: Amazing car at a low price Cons: Rear end shake, and the @#&%&^* air baffles
I recently bought a 2000 ZX2 (Hot model with a manual transmission). I picked this car up for a few reasons:
1) I wanted a fast(ish) car while I was still young enough to enjoy it.
2) I have always loved Fords.
3) The price tag. ...

My 1991 Ford Escort was my first "real" car. I bought it over four years ago and still have it. That thing just keeps on going forever! I have owned other cars since and drive a Jeep now, but I will keep my Escort until it goes to the junk...
