Great No Frills Utility

by shurman100
Oct 11, 2008 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Utility, reliablity, smooth ride, smooth engine.
Cons: radio, slow, unstable at high speeds.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this truck to anyone who needs the extra space but its a bit overkill just to use it to commute to work in.

My wife bought our current 2000 Explorer brand new to replace her wrecked Corolla. Not being a big fan of trucks or SUV's, I've actually gotten quite used to it in the last few years and find it rather comfortable and good at what it was designed for. ... read more

I Love this SUV

Mar 23, 2008 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great acceleration with the 5.0.Trouble free power-train. Tight and responsive steering.
Cons: Some shoddy interior pieces. A little rough and overly bouncy on speed bumps
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car and its newer stalemates to anyone. Its not hard to see why its one of the most popular SUV's in the world.

Owned my Eddie Bauer Explorer since 2001 when I bought it with 19k miles on it. Since then I have had nothing significant go wrong. The drive-train, with the AWD and 5.0L V8, is plenty powerful and provides excellent acceleration off the line and during ... read more

Pros: Comfortable on long trips. Nice size.
Cons: Fuel economy, minor repairs.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend it, I lover ours, just find a maintained one.

This is all about our family truckster, our 00 Explorer. It is an XLT model with the 4.0 OHV v6. It is loaded up, the only option missing is the light/moonroof package. We bought this Explorer in Nov of 05 and it had 71k miles. After much ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliability, style, and great AC.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: Would recommend to everyone because it is a well built vehicle that lasts.

Well my 2000 Explorer just went over 100K and it still runs like new. All that she's needed is a water pump at 90K. That's pretty normal for the miles. Excellent reliable vehicle with great AC. Ford really knows how to build trucks. I expect to get 250K ... read more

Mar 11, 2006 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Height of a 4WD, Can flat out haul when in decent running condition.
Cons: 2WD, Brakes, Idling
The Bottom Line: Don't buy unless you want to feature a lot of headaches.

We purchased our 2000 Explorer Sport 2WD, Manual Trans, in 2002. It seemed like a nice change from our 1995 VW Jetta. We got rid of it because the Jetta was giving us serious problems ever since we bought it. It was a certified Pre -owned vehicle at the ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Good Acceleration, Nice Styling
Cons: Bad Gas Mileage, Cheap Interior Components, Starter/Engine Problems, Horrible Maintenance/Upkeep Cost, TOO MANY cons
The Bottom Line: Do not buy a 2000 Ford Explorer

I purchased a used 2000 Ford Explorer Sport Model (2WD) about 9 months ago. I thought the looks were appealing, and I got a good deal on it, considering I was a sales consultant at the dealership. For the first few months everything was fine. I was ... read more

Pros: Good styling, power, room, ride
Cons: Price, press
The Bottom Line: buy one.......

Overall we like our Explorer. It was purchased for my wife, and she drives it most of the time. I find it is too small for my taste, and perfer a FULL size truck. She likes being able to get in and out of parking spaces easier, plus she likes the way ... read more

FORD EXPLORER- What an SUV should be.

by gfm
Nov 23, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Just right size, overall vehicle, GENERAL tires
Cons: fuel mileage could be better
The Bottom Line: This is a great vehicle. Some people say it rides rough but it's an SUV and I think it's a perfect example of how an SUV should be built.

I bought this 2000 Explorer XLT as a replacement for my 1997 GMC Jimmy. I wanted a new Explorer but my Jimmy was a piece of junk (see review on it) and I spent a lot of money and I had to buy what I could afford. I purchased this Explorer at ... read more

Decent car, Bad company

May 21, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Functionality, whistles and bells
Cons: No attention to details, dealing with Ford, poor customer service, dealing with Ford
The Bottom Line: Decent car, but dealing with Ford is not worth it. Too many problems. Everybody passes responsibility on to someone else.

I own a 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer. The car is nice, has all the whistles and bells that someone could want, and it rides decently. But within the first year of ownership, I have had numerous little problems, that have turned out to be major ... read more

It was time to trade my 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis - and I wanted something different. I considered an SUV and ended up buying a 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer. It is loaded with the power moon roof, 5.0L V8 etc... Driving it took a little getting used to, ... read more

Pros: All in the LE package!
Cons: Only LE is the money worth buy.

2000 Ford Explorer LE is the first SUV that I have ever purchased. I am very happy with this vehicle. LE has all the luxurious components that one can ask for. My particular LE model comes with heat-seats, auto adjusting chairs, 2 seat memory for ... read more

Pros: very responsive, sturdy and safe in traffic, handles great, comfortable to drive/ride in, looks great
Cons: gas is too expensive and damn that tire recall!

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Dependable, Comfortable, Luxurious
Cons: Gas mileage could be a little better

We bought our first Explorer in 1996, I have to admit I was reluctant about driving a "truck" but was soon won over. It was almost as luxurious as any car I'd owned and, boy, could I see better on the road. I really enjoyed it and it was very ... read more

Pros: good mileage, dependable, and good looking
Cons: Could be more powerful.
Bought a 2000 Limited Explorer and planned to sell it when it reached 150K miles but I now have 160K+ and hate to part with it.  It has all the whistles and bells and more that I now see on much more expensive vehicles.  I average 18-19 MPG and

Bought my Explorer 2000 in 2002 (it was two years old at that point, had 35,000 miles). Within the first two years, I had $9,000 in repairs. This included two transmission rebuilds, replacement of the front axle, continuous realignments and balancing

Pros: Backseat has its own air conditioner and radio for passengers.
Cons: Gas mileage isn't that great.
I have owned this vehicle since April of 2001. When I purchased this vehicle it had 23,000 miles on it, currently there is 75,000 miles on it. And the only problem I have had with it in 3 1/2 years was that the outside lights would stay on all the time.
