Pros: third row seats Cons: Duratec engine not reliable or weekend mechanic friendly
We had our 2000 Ford Taurus wagon for four years. We bought it used and wanted it because of the affordable price and the space the wagon gave us. We had always had Fords and had no problems with them, until this car. We had a duratec 24v dual over head camshaft, first they do not make a repair manual for this engine so any book you find will not match, you will have to use it only as a guide. Second every part that we went to replace (and there were a lot) were twice the price then most other vehicles. Spark plug wires were unbelievable, $85 for ONE!! Try finding the PCV valve on this engine! And once you do I hope you have a six year old with small hands like I do to be able to get to it!!

Pros: Reliable, comfortable, fast (V6), beautiful, strong... Cons: I'll never be able to get a new car, 'cause this'll last forever.
Yeah, so I bought a SECOND Ford Taurus because my first one saved my life in a rather large wreck I had. I bought a 2000 Ford Taurus again, and - like the first - it's the strongest, most reliable car I've ever heard of. I've had very few repairs I've ever had to do from it (aside from the infrequent maintenance things), and it's been serving me faithfully for 60,000 miles. (It's previous owner used it for 19,000 miles before that.
Needless to say, I love my car. Leather interior, Mach sound system, moon-roof... on top of all the other great features.

Pros: Reliable, safe, good value, low maintenance, low profile Cons: Ride a bit rough/dated,seats fair. Poor Resale/Tradein -drive it into the ground
I bought a Certified pre owned '00 taurus wagon in 3/03 with 40K miles at a fair price. I could tell it had been sitting around a while. After I agreed to buy it, they replaced all 4 tires (with stock Continentals) and rotors/brakes (4 wheel disc). In the 5 years I have had it, this has been the best car I have ever owned reliability/maintenance wise. It has 95k miles on it and the only maintenance has been brakes (2 times?) oil, filters and tires (Goodyear Tripletreads). Also, the idler pulley needed to be replaced to stop belt squealing. ($150)High 20s MPG at 70 with a/c on. Wagon seats 8 in a pinch (legally) and has flexible cargo area (fit gas grill in box/ fence posts etc.) Goes Ok at highway speeds, no cop magnet. Overall, I guess I got a good one.

Pros: Dependability, styling, room Cons: Depreciates quickly. A great car to buy used.
I have owned 50+ cars in my life. Everything from a Vega to Lincolns. New, used and abused. I've owned several Corvettes, Lincolns and Cadillacs. many of these I purchased new. My 2000 Taurus is possibly the best, most dependable vehicle of them all. Bold statement, I know. BUT; the car now has 167,716 miles on it. Aside from tires and brakes; I have replaced a starter (121k) and a (one) serpentine belt. Even the battery which has withstood 6 VERY COLD Indiana Winters, is original. My last new Caddy had lots of problems, my 1996 Town Car (bought new) had several trips to the dealer, including one which occurred during a family trip to Florida where it would not start (26K) Not to mention the lights going off and on all the time. They never could fix it. My Continental... we won't even go there. The Fusion has BIG shoes to fill.
