Mar 8, 2011 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: gas saver

fun to drive/easy to maneuver

dependable

economical

Great controls

Quiet, smooth ride.
Cons: lack of storage space

2 seater

hard to get into and out of the car
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't hesitate to buy this car again. Best purchase I've ever made.

I've had a 2000 Honda Insight for about a year now, and I am still impressed on a daily basis. As a 2 seater, it is definitely not a family car. It is, however, a wonderful option as a second car for commuting or as a car for those that are ... read more

I own a Honda Insight and the Hybrid Civic. The best mileage of gotten with the Insight is 100 MPG on my commute to work 26mi. away. The conditions of this tests were 70°F, 55mph , five speed manual transmission and no wind. My lifetime average is ... read more

by
Feb 20, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fuel Economy, parking, handling, It's a Honda.
Cons: SUV owners won't look you in the eye...
The Bottom Line: In short, the Insight provides a pleasant means to reduce our foreign oil dependency, with little in the way of limitations.

I had read about the Insight before it came out, and was trying to make up my mind between it and the Prius. Since most of my driving would be highway, the deciding factor was the Insight achieved 68 mpg highway and the Prius only 45 mpg. ... read more

Closest thing to a spaceship!

by
Mar 4, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good looks, great mileage, high-tech, peppy performance, sports car suspension, head-turner
Cons: Only a 2 seater, limited storage capability.
The Bottom Line: If you commute alot by yourself this is a perfect car. Why get a 4 seater when you're never going to seat 4?

I think this is one of the coolest most high-tech cars you can get. And just because it has a small 1.0 3 cylinder engine, it has enough pep thanks to it's electric motor, to drive like a larger displacement 4 cylinder, ie. Honda Civics. This car ... read more

Pros: high tech "bio feedback" system to encourage High Gas milage. Great in city traffic.
Cons: Not good for long trips or in mountains
The Bottom Line: Great for city use. Very Good economy. Not quite there for long cross country trips but usable.

My company is buying a fleet of customer service vehicles and my assignment was to put 500 miles on a Honda Insight and convey my impressions. I was also assigned to drive a Toyota Prius of which I will write a separate opinion. We operate a ... read more

THE FUTURE OF AUTOMOBILITY STARTS HERE

by
Aug 5, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: FAST, light, clean, SAFE...a super efficient gasoline car with electric afterburners...
Cons: only a 2 seater
The Bottom Line: Until practical proton exchange membranes (PEMs) and hydrogen fuel distribution systems make hydrogen or methane PEM powered electric cars a reality, this hybrid concept is where it's at.

Q: Is this an electric car? A: Yes and no. It has a hybrid drive system. Think of it as about half electric, half gasoline powered. Q: Do you ever have to plug it in? A: No! That's what's so great about it. It makes it's own ... read more

by
Jul 16, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Best MPG's currently available, comfortable seats, excellent climate control, typical Honda fit and finish.
Cons: Bumpy ride on uneven pavement, no cargo capacity, and difficult to see out the back.
The Bottom Line: A excellent high mileage car that is both fun to drive and offers a return to your wallet!

This little car is really a wonder! We started out to buy a Toyota Prius, but after test driving both the Insight and the Prius, we decided on the Honda. The Insight does lack the practical aspects of the Prius, such as four doors, a trunk, and a less ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Turn heads, great gas mileage
Cons: Two-seater, not alot of cargo space, underpowered
The Bottom Line: It works, it does what it suppose to, but can you live with it? It's like a large motorcycle...where are your kids gonna sit? Grocery?

Disclaimer I test driven this car along with the Prius (please read about it in my other ePinions). As such, I did not spend a great deal with it, so please keep this in mind. First in the States! Although the Prius was ... read more

by
May 31, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Pretty smooth ride, great gas mileage, smooth gearbox
Cons: Somewhat loud ride on back roads
The Bottom Line: I would have bought it if it had the CVT on it. Ordered the 2001 Insight instead.

I first spotted the 2000 Insight a few months ago when I had my Odyssey in for its regular check-up. I was impressed by the sleek styling, futuristic look and the wonderful gas mileage ratings on the sticker. Found out this was the gas/electric hybrid ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: No muss; no fuss; it feels, well, normal.
Cons: Two-seater; five-speed manual transmission only.
The Bottom Line: A true technological accomplishment. This thing feels like a conventional small car, but it's as high-tech as just about anything on the road.

How does one describe the Honda Insight. Technologically advanced? Yep? Strange-looking? Yep. Limited in ability? Yep. Normal-feeling? Yep. Huh? Wait a minute! That's right. This car drives and behaves like most other "conventional" small cars ... read more

by
Oct 24, 2000 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The best gas mileage in the world; always draws a crowd.
Cons: Only seats two; no cruise control.

The Honda Insight is, at least at the time of this writing, a unique motor vehicle. It's a two-seat hatchback with a radical outward appearance somewhat reminiscent of an old SAAB 96 or even (for you REAL old-timers out there) a Kaiser Henry J. Some ... read more

This car is what the future has for us. Almost no emissions and no plug-up needed. The look is based off the CRX. The most aero dynamic car in production. You can drive up too 700 miles on just one gas tank. The gas tank only holds 10.6 gallons at full. ... read more

by
Aug 18, 2000 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Brilliant design and execution

Finally -- A Reason to Come to Indiana!!

by
Jul 29, 2000 - Updated Jan 19, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Pros: 71mpg!!; ULEV Status; Comfortable; Drives Like a Real Car; Everything but MPG Comes 2nd.
Cons: Not Overpowered; Only 2-Seats; Everything But MPG Comes 2nd.
The Bottom Line: Honda managed to keep the "I want more fru-fru" people at bay, and build a real milestone in the American automotive scene.

To say that the Honda Insight is a hot car on the market would be an understatement. In California, Edmunds Automotive (the champions of the invoice-priced car) paid $1,682 above sticker price for their Insight. Honda dealers across the ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, Technology, Gas Mileage, Citroen Styling, It's a Honda
Cons: Choppy Ride, No Cruise Control
The Bottom Line: Honda can do better than this car. Unless you commute many miles each way, every week, don't bother with the Insight.

I want to like this car. 60 - 70 mpg, what's not to like. A car without the guilt of forever damaging the environment. I want to like the Insight, I really do. Trouble is, I don't think I would want to own one. I have had an Insight (red) for one ... read more
