2000 Mercedes-Benz S500: Mercedes-Benz pre-owned [12k mile update]

by daviddennis Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000
Jul 19 '06 - Updated Dec 02 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A big beautiful car with wonderful ride, handling and style
Cons: Expensive. You'll have to actually read the manual to understand the car.
The Bottom Line: Fantastic ride and handling make this car a blast to drive; high techno-gadget quotient may confuse some.

What is an S-Class, anyway? The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is an incredibly ambitious car. It is meant by its makers to be the ultimate vehicle, with no excuses granted or tolerated. It is meant to accelerate and swing around curves like a sports ...

The ultimate luxury and performance sedan

by fjraz

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Supremely comfortable, superb ride and quiet, astounding handling, and very fast acceleration.
Cons: Marginal sound system for the price
The Bottom Line: This is the ultimate combination of high luxury and performance. It makes every BMW, Lexus, and cheaper Mercedes look like a toy.

I recently purchased a pre-owned 2000 S500 in black/java with 50,000 miles once I tired of my old '96 Town Car. At first I was concerned about an S500 with 50,000 miles, but my Lincoln had 130,000 and no problems so I figured this would be fine, ...

SL 600: Amazing car

by tdgvrr
Aug 25 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Overall driving experience, comfort, elegant but not over the top style
Cons: Expensive
The Bottom Line: Grab one before the collectors realize how cool they are and prices go through the roof...

Frankly, I haven't been a fan of the most recent SL style, so when I went shopping for mine, it was for a pristine 1997-2001 model. After some comparison shopping, I found that (assuming you could find one) the V12 SL600's could be had for hardly any ...

Nov 04 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliability, Safety, Performance, Style, Interior Amenities
Cons: Tire Noise, stiff seats, Complicated Thermostat
The Bottom Line: A practical intro luxury car for everyday use. Safe, reliable, sporty, AND it has a 3-pointed star on the hood!

I bought my C280 Sport new in 2000 having never owned a Mercedes or any other luxury car for that matter, and I have been superbly impressed by virtually everything about the car, the manufacturer, and the dealer. Let me begin by saying that I was in...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: beautiful classic
Cons: high maintenance

I have had the pleasurable experience of owning two Mercedes and will probably own a third. My first was a 450SL that I loved more than my 560SL that I currently own. I'm telling you, that thing was a TANK!! When we parted ways, she had 180,000 miles...

Merc S600L - The World's Best Car?

by cujimmy
Mar 26 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: This new executive model from Mercedes is definitely worth a look. Sheer, unashamed luxury.
Cons: Not many!!
The Bottom Line: This is one of the finest and most refined executive saloons on the market.

~ ~ The Mercedes S600L sets the standard that other manufacturers in the luxury car bracket must now try to emulate.
It competes directly against the other German flagship, the BMW 750iL, and also against the Audi A8 4.2 quattro.

Big car performance, small car handling

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth ride, great safety record, roomy for all passengers
Cons: Not for you if you want to use this car to do your dirty work.

Being a big fan of SUVs, I have been privileged enough to drive a few models, including the Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevy Blazer and the latest SUV toy, the 1999 Mercedes ML320.

I think the best feature of this SUV is that it...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: S = Sleeker, Slimmer, Solid and Sensible
Cons: Lexus LS430 and Cadillac Deville Better Bargains
The Bottom Line: The pinnacle of German luxury.

Back in 1989 I considered the purchase of a new Mercedes 560SEL. That Mercedes had a 5.5 litre 238 horsepower multi-port fuel injected V-8 mated to a 4-speed automatic. The performance was impressive, but research shows that fuel economy was also a...

Pros: Extremely safe and quiet FAMILY car.
Cons: cruise control switch, bad leather

I had made a few decisions in my life that I thought I would never break. But then I got married and I couldn't keep on to two of them. Want to know what they are and why I broke them?

1. I will never buy a diamond in my life, as they are real...

Much Improved!

by TonyG5003
Dec 01 '00 - Updated Feb 15 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Not like everyone else's SUV!
Cons: Not "100%" an SUV........
The Bottom Line: Excellent drive, cool & useful features, superior service. Build quality does not quite live up to Mercedes standard.

Having owned both the 1999 ML430, and my new 2000 ML430, I am probably a pretty good judge of quality, (I hope!).

I purchased the 1999 in May of 99. I loved it immediately, but that feeling subsided after two trips of over 1000 miles....

The Best Real-World SUV On Earth

by jbratek Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000
Nov 08 '99

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 342-hp V8 engine, Mercedes reliability and durability
Cons: $65,495 cost, Dunlop tires, depressing charcoal color scheme interior

Everyone knows that 95% of all SUVs are used for on-road purposes, typically to go to the grocery store, the mall, hauling the kids to school and their activities, commuting to work, and roadtrips. So why is it that Motor Trend and a small collection of...

2001 Mercedes ML320 vs. BMW X5

by LSMillers Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500
Dec 29 '00 - Updated Jan 25 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Both Solid, Safe SUVs
Cons: X5: Less Utility, no history; ML: Not as Safe, poor reliability
The Bottom Line: Choose the ML320 if you have serious hauling and off-roading needs; or go with the X5 for better safety and driving performance.

This review is a result of our five-month search for a new vehicle. We've also investigated the Acura MDX, Lexus RX300, Infiniti QX4, GMC Yukon and Volvo S70XC, and for us it's been a tough choice. We highly value safety, utility and versatility/value,...

2000 E430- The good, the bad, and ... Updated Feb. 14, 2002

by cc_and_ph
Feb 06 '00 - Updated Feb 14 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Performance, Handling, Fit and Finish
Cons: Problems with Fuel Gauge (replaced twice), and rear sunshade (replaced twice), Inconvenient Fan Switch
The Bottom Line: Excellent mid-size luxury car. The E430 engine produces noticeably more power than the E320. We are very happy with the car.

We have been extremely happy with our 1990 300E. After 10 years with the 300E, we decided to trade it in for a new E-class. We decided to pay extra for the E430 instead of the E320 because of the improvement in performance with the bigger engine and...

Mercedes' Imitation of a Buick

Jun 11 '00 - Updated Jun 12 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks, Features, Prestige
Cons: Loose Steering, Hard Seats

As the happy (very happy) owner of a 1990 S Class (the year before they changed to the wedgy shape), I have fallen in love with the tight, solid feel of Mercedes vehicles. Unbenounced to me, Mercedes has completely changed the driving dynamics of its...
