2000 Mountaineer Surely Lacking

by trueword
Dec 28 '03 - Updated Dec 30 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Spacious SUV with all the trimmings.
Cons: Horrible gas mileage w/V8, Slightly bouncy highway ride, Poor quality of product and service
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend buying this SUV. If you must buy a Mountaineer, wait until the 2002 model year and see if improved.

The 2000 Mercury Mountaineer I leased new and returned after 3 years is the Premier model, equipped with the V8 engine, full time all wheel drive option, and basically all the options available. Engine, Transmission and Suspension The Mountaineer ...

Pros: Overall fit and finish
Cons: With V8, still really likes the fuel

I traded in a 1999 Ford 2door Sport Explorer for my Mercury Mountaineer about a month ago. Never regretted it!!! This SUV, don't know why there is not another class for stand-outs like this, has an understated feeling of quality that seems to flow up...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Comfortable, luxurious interior
Cons: Poor mileage, loud

Last week, I rented a Mountaineer in Seattle, and used it both around town and to drive through the mountains to Eastern Washington. I drove the Stevens pass going over and took I-90 coming back. The upside is that the Mountaineer is relatively...

Pros: Comfortable, Luxury, Performance

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfertable, luxerious, cheaper
Cons: not as fance as other SUVs

This great SUV has most all of the same features of the Durrango, Explorer and Grand Cherokee at a fraction of the price. The above mentioned SUV's have a price that ranges from the mid 30,000.00's to the 40,000.00's. The Mercury is fairly priced,...

Pros: Awsome SUV
Cons: nothing

The Mountaineer is a very good Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). It looks like the kind of SUV that would drive like a truck, but it really drives like a car. Also it has nice seats and a big trunk. For example, one day I had to pick up my son from football...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Exceptional interior features, V8, Mach stereo system awesome (especially with subwoofer ), comfort and reliability.
Cons: Gas guzzler, growl in engine at high speeds, needs better shocks than standard.
The Bottom Line: If you find one, but it. Unless your pocket book will not afford you extra trips to the gas pump. Other than that, enjoy a luxurious and confident ride.

NOVEMBER 2003 My old 91' Ford Explorer was ready to turn out to pasture. I spent a month researching vehicles and test driving. One by one, I ruled out certain car families, such as Chevy, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda, etc. I almost bought a Toyota ...

One of the best deals of the SUV lot

Jun 27 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: smaller and more maneuverable than larger Navigator/Expedition...LOTS of luxury for the money
Cons: No Control Trac (selection) for the 4-wheel drive...this means more tire wear for full-time All-Wheel Drive.

After years of driving large Lincoln Town Cars and Mark IVs and Mark Vs, I figured it was time to look at a Sport Utility Vehicle. I had considered a Lincoln Navigator (1998) - but these are simply STILL too pricey (approx $33-$34,000 in the...

Pros: nice ride, good quality, reliability
Cons: gas mileage

We got our new Mountaineer in the fall. I am the primary driver of the vehicle, chauffeuring kids to activities, doing chores, soccer mom-type usage. I love the car--we got the fully, totally loaded Mountaineer--I don't think there's one option this...

Smoother Ride, Monterey Options

by paul-diehl
Dec 14 '99

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth, tight ride. Very comfortable. Monterey package a great option.
Cons: Tight leg-room. Noisy sunroof.

The 2000 Mountaineer/with Monterey options recently replaced our 1997 Mountaineer; the 2000 model offers a much smoother ride and even tighter handling. Thankfully the 2000 doesn't have the ocean-swell effect of the 1997. The Monterey package is...

Pros: Comfort, size - storage space, luxury features
Cons: fuel economy

I sold a Jeep Cherokee, County model for my Mountaineer. What a huge difference! This is one great vehicle. Great comfort and driveability, especially for long trips. To me it doesn't really drive like a truck like my Jeep did. It has most, if not all,...

Cons: Maybe the gas mileage

Well, I have had my Mountaineer for about 4 hours right now. I know that not very many people would say that I am qualified to write about a vehicle review as of this time, but I am truly in love with my Mountaineer. We bought a 2000 Mercury...

Dec 16 '99

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Ultimate comfort, great sound system, safe
Cons: The car is set high off of the ground, so entering and exiting the vehicle may be difficult at times

The Mercury Mountaineer is a great vehicle for those of us who are looking for safety, luxury, and utility along with a fashionable exterior and interior. I'm currently leasing this vehicle because I found it to be a great car, well worth the cost. The...
