Aug 6, 2009 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: looks, 4WD, 3.5L V6, spacious interior.
Cons: tall drivers. nothing else!!
The Bottom Line: I don't think there is a better SUV out there. I would recommend this SUV for a first car, or a seasoned soccer mom, or a serious off-roader.

I bought my 2000 Montero Sport Limited 4WD after I totaled my 2003 Nissan Xterra. I am 16 and the Xterra was my first car. I thought it was a pretty good vehicle. I liked the off road look, but it was so BASIC. Crank windows, manual locks, ... read more

Nov 13, 2005 - Updated Jun 8, 2007 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good mileage for 4WD SUV--sleek looking, stylish, macho front end
Cons: Brake problems when vehicle ages--possible design flaw.
The Bottom Line: Decent choice in used vehicle provided you are prepared for possible costly brake repairs--parts expensive as is the labor putting them in.A true 4WD SUV --can actually handle off-roading.

We bought the 2000 Montero Sport XLS 4WD new in July 2000. Great looking vehicle and not too bad on gas mileage for a 4WD SUV. We still own it in 2007 and of course it no longer is under warranty with 109,000 miles and over 7 years ownership. It rides ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Cheap to purchase, acceptable fuel economy
Cons: SLOW, poor transmission shift, eats brakes (alive), rough riding, high load floor, cramped interior,
The Bottom Line: Mitsubishi is a lousy automobile company; competition is decades more advanced.

I was surprised to see so many reviews praising this Sport Utility Vehicle. Then again, most people are only inspired to write reviews when they first buy their product, before anything starts to go wrong. Here's the truth about the Mitsubishi Montero: ... read more

Pros: Great ride, quite, comfy
Cons: A little slow up hills
The Bottom Line: Buy it, you'll love it. You can't go wrong, unless you are looking for a fast vehicle. The Montero can be somewhat sluggish up steep hills.

I've owned this vehicle for 9 months now & I still love it. I looked at every SUV on the market prior to purchasing my Montero Sport. I looked at all the consumer reports. The Montero beat out all by better safety records, better gas mileage, more cargo ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable Service

The CarMax entry as a Mitsu' dealer is a significantly positive feature for owning any of the line up. My experience with other dealers had been severely wanting. Buying any vehicle is only the beginning. What's essential is that the car is serviced ... read more

Pros: Spacious interior, good 4X4 system, low exterior noises
Cons: Braking distance is below average for a car of this size

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: GREAT off-road performance. Moderately priced for a luxury SUV.
Cons: Few -- seat comfort is one. Also, a high-tech 3.5L V6 ought to get better mileage.

I wanted to replace an all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza. It had been a great snowy road car; it was incredibly reliable; but, it was underpowered, very small, and now it was just getting old. AND, I wanted not just on-road capability -- I wanted REAL ... read more
