Pros: Structurally sound, inexpensive to maintain and fun to drive. Cons: poor gas mileage, got around 19 miles to the gallon on average. The Bottom Line: Buying it for weekend getaways and mountain play, great for those. Otherwise, stick with something more fuel efficient for everyday.
Structurally very sound.. Writing this based on that I owned the 2000 Xterra for 8 years until my son totaled it, trying to miss a coyote on a blind curve. Took this SUV back into the mountains, many a dirt road, cliff side and body held up through all ... read more

Pros: reliable, solid, well-made, cheap parts, and roomy. Cons: Poor factory tires, not so great gas milage. The Bottom Line: This is a great mid-size SUV for the price.
Bought this car brand new in 2000. So far we have put 110K on the car. The car has never let us down, it starts up every time no matter how cold it is outside. After 110k, the car is running so well as if I just drove off the dealer's lot. Have not ... read more

Pros: It looks cool. Very agile for a larger sub-SUV. Cons: Underpowered. Bad MPG. Annoying design to rear seat fold-down and moonroof. The Bottom Line: Yeah, it looks really cool, but there are better values in the sub-SUV class.
I think a lot of people buy these because they look cool. I will be picking up something from the small-SUV class shortly, but I've decided it won't be this. Initially, I was also very attracted by its bold, aggressive styling. Now, if only it could ... read more

Pros: Looks good. Truck mentality. Cons: Comfort, no power, bad paint. The Bottom Line: Try a later model. This one still had it's bugs.
My wife and I purchased this fine vehicle within the first few weeks of it's initial release. We liked the look, she needed a new vehicle and we both agreed that, given our outdoor lifestyle that a 4x4 was in order. We enjoyed the vehicle and still do ... read more

Pros: Nice looking - very rugged and outdoors-y. Cons: everything else The Bottom Line: Only for people who care about the look, and nothing else.
I was one of the very first people to buy this car, in November of 1999. My experience with this car (having just traded it this week) ranks LAST in my automotive experiences (and I've owned about 20 cars in my 47 years).

Pros: Great handling, roomy storage space, comfortable seats and a sporty package Cons: Not recommended for a growing family. Can't open sun-roof when utility basket is attached The Bottom Line: While not plush, the Xterra offers a comfortable and sporty vehicle for the mother on the go with plenty of storage space. Too small for over 4 people.

Pros: Utility, cost-effective, well-built. Cons: cramped engine compartment, 4 wheel shift jabs leg. The Bottom Line: If you want a capable, no-nonsense SUV buy it. If you want a tall station wagon dont buy it.

Pros: Looks awesome, feels great. I can't find the underpowered engine and quirks that others describe Cons: Mileage maybe? I can't really complain... it's an SUV for crying out loud! The Bottom Line: I would, without hesitation, recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking at purchasing a mid-sized SUV. It's fun to drive, and definitely great to look at.

Pros: Good Looks, Drives Well, Nice "stadium" seating in rear, good mileage (for a truck) Cons: A little short on power & creature comforts The Bottom Line: Good SUV - Good Mileage for a Truck - A little low on H.P. - If you need to haul 5+ folks for any distance, look for something else...
Probably not. I have had my Xterra for a little over year - mostly driving around a mid-west town of about 100,000 (ie, not too much traffic). I have had it off-road only a few times. Does well off-road - a little short of clearance compared to my ... read more
