Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Beautiful car, great value for the cost, handles and accelerates well, a great car
Cons: Small trunk and two seats only

Smart, classy, sexy, thrilling, awe inspiring, beautiful, fast, safe, relatively inexpensive. What am I describing? I am describing the new Toyota MR2 Spyder. I recently took one for a test drive and found the car to be something different from...

Jul 21 '04 - Updated Jul 22 '04

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: handling, appearance, cost, mileage, drop-top!
Cons: no storage space, metrosexual (heh)
The Bottom Line: Most affordable pure sports cars on the market.

This review is based on a used 2000 MR2 Spyder with 51k miles, purchased on 5/1/2004. This was my first real car purchase. My last one was a beat up 92 VW Fox that I bought for $700 to get me to and from my internships back in college. I lived ...

I wasn't in the market for a new car until I saw this baby! It was love at lst sight. I am now one of 5,000 lucky owners. Boy, has my life taken on a new meaning. This car, is a real attention getter! I can't go anywhere through town without someone...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: beautiful; roomier than miata;
Cons: terrible HP and torque

Roadsters have been popping up here and there since Miata became a sales success in 1989. So far the only Japanese competitor against the Mazda has been the S2000, but this car costs nearly twice as much as a Miata. The cute little roadster has also...

Pros: Price/Performance Ratio
Cons: Storage Space

Ever hear some computer geek say "If cars were like computers they'd all go 1,000 mph; get 250mpg and cost $100?". The inferred point is that cars aren't technologically advancing as fast as computers. My first all-day drive in the new MR2...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sporty, attractive, handles well
Cons: No room whatsoever

This new Toyota MR2 Spyder is definitely turning heads. In appearance and performance, this is the sportiest MR2 yet. The car handles like a dream, takes corners like a champ, you get the idea. I do have a couple relatively major criticisms, but I will...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great performance, always fun!
Cons: Lumbar support,

This opinion is a review of my Toyota MR2 Spyder after 4000 miles, with a few six-hour drives, three-hour drives, and lots of city driving thrown in. It covers what I love and what I am disappointed about, and to whom I would recommend this car. At the...

Pros: Great fun to drive; accelerates like a bat out of Hell; corners like a jackrabbit.
Cons: Ticket magnet; next to no storage space for luggage.

This is a revue of the 2001. I'll move it when the category shows up.

The MR2 (which stands for Mid-engined, Rear-drive, 2-seater) offers as much speed, cornering, and sheer excitement as roadsters costing twice as much. About the only...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: appearance, comfort, handling, suspension, coolness
Cons: cargo space

In looking for a new car recently, I test drove both the 2001 Toyota MR2 and its direct competitor, the 2001 Mazda Miata. Considering that you can probably get out the door with an MR2 for only $2k more than a Miata, I can see no reason to even think...

A single fatal flaw prevents this car from getting my recommendation.
While I agree with all the other reviews of this car on this site
(style/handling excellent; space limited), I think that all other
reviewers, as well as Toyota,...

Pros: responsiveness, agility
Cons: passenger room

I've read the other opinions, and I mostly DISagree on some repeated points and figures. Maybe that's because I'm from Europe, just went living here, but still I thought I had to make some remarks.

First of all, 138 HP for such a NON heavy...

35,000 Mile Review.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Handling, Fuel economy, Reasonable Insurance, Generally well kept.
Cons: Storage Space, Engine noise.
The Bottom Line: A real joy to drive. Great as an excuse to not get in the groceries on your day off. As a second car, its perfect.

If you are reading this review, then you are hunting for a used car, possibly a second car with a bit of pizazz, if so, a six year old MR-2 Spyder is likely to perform that role with distinction. It should not be too rare to find one that has been ...

Pros: Handling! Gas Mileage! Appearance (Solar Yellow!) Looks I get from everyone on the road!!!
Cons: Trunk space (none); Stereo just OK+; No Cruise Control
The Bottom Line: More fun than practical. You only live once--MR2 is better- built and cheaper than a Porsche. (Buy it in Solar Yellow!)

I've owned five; count 'em FIVE MR2's. Think I like em?
The two old bodies (85; 86) were just FUN, and reliable as dawn. My 1991 Turbo is a whole different animal, and I still wax it once a month! I love it!

The new MR2 Spyder reminds me...

Pros: Fun & Exclusive
Cons: Lack of storage space

I am the proud owner of a black on black 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder. I traded my 1987 MR2 in on it. I bought this car with 4000 miles on it, for $20,000 and got $1100 for my trade in.

I had my old MR2 for 4 years and was very comfortable with...

MR2 Spyder almost a Boxster

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fun to drive
Cons: almost no storage

After a week in Toyota's newest version of the MR2 I still found myself wanting to put the top down and find a twisty two lane road. The multi valve 4 cylinder engine can move the MR2 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds more power would be ok, more exhaust sound...

Pros: Hugs the road. A thrill to drive. This is a sportscar
Cons: Cargo space? What cargo space?
The Bottom Line: I never knew driving could be so much fun.

Only 5,000 were built. So if you wanted one, you paid dealer mark up. In this case, $2000. He did through in a nose bra. Its still in its box. Anyone want to buy it? Can't have the car. I meant the bra.

The MR2 which has been around a...

Pros: Head-turning styling; hadles like it's on rails
Cons: Zero cargo space
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this car because it is arguably the most fun you can have for under $25,000.

This car really has only one purpose. It's not to be practical; it's to be fun. And I can say it is a complete success. It's great looking (my wife and I endlessly receive compliments about it), it's suprisingly comfortable, it's a joy to drive, it's...

Cons: No 6th gear

And it is definately worth it.

the spirit of the MK1 MR2 in a roadster!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: go-kart handling, MR2 cachet, fun to row gears, adequete power, STYLING!
Cons: should have a 6th gear, could benefit from Celica GT-S motor, storage space
The Bottom Line: A fun toy, I would love to own one myself. But this is no daily driver!

The original MR2 was a memorable car for me. I owned a 1987 Toyota MR2, or as I liked to call, mister two. Mister Two handled great, it felt as if it drove on rails, and when you really wanted to, you could easily get the tail swinging out. It was a...

Pros: Uhm... I guess it's kind of an MR2
Cons: Mid-engined Miata

As an avid Toyota MR2 fan, it would be a gross understatement to say I am extremely disappointed by the new MR2 Spyder. When Toyota announced that it would be selling a new MR2, this time as a roadster, I was thrilled. This announcement came at roughly...

Cons: No trunk, no keyless enter, no power antenna, no speed control
The Bottom Line: When is the 2003 coming out? :)

What a great little sports car for half the cost of the Porshce Boxster! I have had this car since Mar. 26 2000 and people still stop and ask me about it; everyone seems to think that it is Porsche at first glance and that is MUST be expensive. Far...

Cons: needs a 6th gear

I had a choice between the MR2, Miata and Z3. After test driving all of them, I decided to get the MR2 mainly because of its excellent handling. Deciding on the MR2 was super easy, the hardest part was finding one! The 5 dealers I visited had a mark...

Pros: The ultimate ride! for 1/2 the price
Cons: Storage of course..interior ain't fancy but check the price tag.
My specs -
Male, 29 years old

I have always owned sports cars and I love this car. My roommate just bought a 2004 Mercedes Sport C class something. We swapped cars for a test drive. He was upset...why? Because the MR2 kicks major @ss and is so much fun to drive.

My comments:
1. The convertible top is a piece of cake! Take it down without leaving your seat at a stop light.
2. Metro sexual!!??? Chicks dig the car and you in it - don't fool yourself - anyone that thinks this boxy sportster is a girly car can't afford it. (p.s. my other car is 1977 Corvette - Black!) Side note, Miata -> definitely gay
3. Drive it - it is the most fun I have ever had driving a car
4. No kids, so I can survive without the storage space.

P.S. - They have discontinued this model....collector car?
