Pros: Most versatile and reliable vehicle I've ever owned Cons: Drawbacks, but no real cons ... The Bottom Line: The 2000s are getting old by now, but if you can get one in good shape, you'll get a great, all-around utility vehicle.
Stick, with 4WD. I bought this rig used with 27K miles, now it has about 96K miles and I've had no serious breakdowns, and only one minor (but expensive) problem (EGR valve failed). I bought the RAV4 hoping it would meet every demand I placed on it: I ... read more

Pros: Outstanding dependability. Fine handling. Good for basic off-roading, good MPG. Cons: Small for sleeping in :) Small for enormous people. The Bottom Line: Outstanding. Wish they made a hybrid! I'd buy a new one today.
I bought my Rav4 when I lived in Joshua Tree, California - in the Mojave desert and used to drive it down the motocross trails through desert washes to get to work at a cafe I owned and to remote rock climbing areas. Personally I think it's absurd ... read more

Pros: Very cute, Toyota reliability, low MSRP, excellent mileage Cons: Poor load capacity, poor crash rating, rollover susceptibility, injury history The Bottom Line: The RAV4, along with other small SUVs, has safety issues that any prospective buyer should carefully consider.
This review is a result of our five-month search for a new vehicle. We initially were attracted to the RAV4 because of its high "cute" factor, and because we were opposed to the gas-guzzling behemoth SUVs now in fashion. We also own a 1991 Toyota ... read more

Pros: Great quality, handling Cons: maybe a bit too small (if you like big SUVs)
I bought the Rav 4 because it was a small SUV and it had a Jeep type of feel to it. It was a pretty good deal because it is such nice quality for an inexpensive price.
With only a four-cylinder engine, I was surprised at the acceleration. It ... read more

Pros: Large cargo area, low height of cargo area Cons: Lots of windnoise, may be too short for certain items like skis
I purchased my 2000 Toyota RAV4 in July 2000 as an upgrade from my Honda Prelude. I needed more space after purchasing a home the year before. The RAV4 is the perfect size for my needs, not too massive like a higher level SUV. The cargo area is the ... read more

Pros: Reliable, Smooth ride, Good styling Cons: Way underpowered, Marginal off-road capability
If I was looking for a compact SUV right now, my first choice would be a Honda CR-V. I test drove many of the compact SUV's on the market, and decided that while the Rav4 is not the best, it deserves a chance. This vehicle is built off a Toyota Camry ... read more
