Nov 10, 2011 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great haneling, serious power, luxury appointments. Classy car.
Cons: maintainence might be high---mileage not great
The Bottom Line: love the car, so far it's been wonderful. Bavarian muscle car.

I've only had this car for a month, and it has cost me 350 bucks in cooling system work. But the rest of the system is new, so I should be OK. It's a 2001 with 83,000 miles. This is an awsome automobile. I've driven Jaguars, Audis, Ferraris, Alfa ... read more

My Daily Inspiration

Oct 27, 2008 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Money can buy love -- I love this hunk of metal
Cons: Slower than my best friend's Mini Cooper S JCW
The Bottom Line: Part car, part love affair

I bought my first BMW (a 1987 735) in 2000. I will never buy anything else. I kissed the 735 goodbye last year (got a little bit teary!) and bought a 2001 530i. I freaking LOVE this car. Love love love it. It is very much an inspiration in my day. ... read more

The BMW 5 series is about as good as it gets

by bmwrcr530
Dec 23, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Powerful engine, beautiful design, always a pleasure to drive, very trouble free
Cons: there are only 2: cupholders are cheap, and the steptronic lurches at times in downshifts
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best cars I've ever owned, I'll never buy anything but BMW ever again

We bought a 2001 BMW 530i off lease from a friend last year, and it was the best purchase we ever made. This car is about as close to flawless as you can get in a luxury car. The ride is smooth enough to keep you comfortable, but not soft enough to put ... read more

Too Bad I Didn't Buy One When New

by agentcisco
Feb 8, 2005 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Its a pre-Bangle BMW, best looking 5 series, interior design, engine, steering, handling, and MPG.
Cons: Its a BMW, high cost of maintenance, expensive, its getting old wihtout decent replacement.
The Bottom Line: I should have bought one back in 2001 brand new.

I just recently got the privilege to drive a 2001 BMW 525i sedan, with Sport/Premium Package as a company car for a project. Going into the whole experience, I really thought that a 2.5 liter engine in a luxo heavy car as a 5 series was a joke. I had a ... read more

Pros: Perfect blend of sportiness and comfort, reliable, and good dealer support, great phone system
Cons: Paint chips too easily, door seals make noise, poor gas mileage, high purchase price
The Bottom Line: Definitely buy this car! The best blend of reliability, sports car handling and performance, safety, and comfort.

I bought a 540i with the sport package, navigation, premium stereo, and fold down seats in February 2001. The car has been very reliable and fun to drive. It is the perfect blend of sportiness and comfort! The car has excellent looks (mine ... read more

BMW 530iA is a perfect thing

by knapton
Mar 9, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A four-door sedan which drives like a much smaller sports car.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: If you are a "spirited driver" who likes a car to connect with the road and who seeks perfection in things then this is the car for you.

If money and space were of no concern one might assemble a multi-car fleet of special purpose vehicles and each of them MIGHT be bit better than the 530i at one specific thing but they would much worse at many many other aspects of what a car must do and ... read more

BMW 530i - A great car

by slpoll44
Feb 6, 2002 - Updated Jan 2, 2003 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great handling and responsiveness, attractive styling
Cons: Expensive, lack of storage space, 2 minor recalls
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this car. Consumer Reports recently stated that this was the best car they have ever tested, and I couldn't agree more.

I have had my 2001 BMW 530i for 6 months now and have put around 11,000 miles on the car. I really enjoy driving the car due to a unique combination of sportiness, comfort, and luxury. My prior car was a 1994 Lexus LS400, a great car in its own way. ... read more

Pros: Luxury, superb to drive, safety.
Cons: Price
The Bottom Line: The BMW 5 series is a great car. The car gives great ride quality, safety, amazing looks and quality. This car is the best in the class!

The current BMW 5 series was first launched in 1996/1997. It was designed for the luxury car market, but how does this car really perform? From the outside, this car looks superb. The stunning styling looks a touch of class, particulary if ... read more

Jul 16, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: This car rocks!
Cons: DVD for GPS intrudes into the trunk space
The Bottom Line: Love this car, wouldn't buy anything else

If you want to read a review that explains nitty-gritty engine details, don't read this. We purchased a 540 sport model this year and believe it is the ideal family car. We had a '94 540i but the latest model is much better. Driving in Tokyo ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Looks, handling.. did I mention looks?
Cons: Fixing costs
The Bottom Line: The BMW is unbeatable!

The new BMW is amazing!! The leather seats are incredible and comfy. They have this liquid seat installed (but you can't feel it there!) so that your butt won't get sore through long rides. It keeps shifting so you won't have pressure on one spot. It ... read more

M5... MMMM..... Fastest 4 door on this planet.

by denniskim
Jul 9, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 400 hp. 4 doors. Evil eye.
Cons: Ha! No BMW has cons.
The Bottom Line: BMW is a great bang for the buck. Its a great fast, sporty, luxury ride. Hands down, the best sedan.

BMW M series. Just the special M is spine tingling. The M3 is pretty mean. The old M5 and M6 were some nice machiens. But with the current M5, all other luxury-perfomance sedans are blown into the water. Nothing paralles the performance of this ... read more

Nothing compares to an M5.

by sfhighroller
Jun 22, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safe, fast, luxurious, and a great eye catcher.
Cons: Little things break, but it's covered by a warranty.
The Bottom Line: Best Car on the road. If you can afford it, get it because it's fast, it's safe, and it's an eye catcher.

This is without a doubt the best car on the road. Sure there's the Dodge Viper that goes for $20,000 less, but the M5 is the most practical car for the speed. The pros are it seats up to five people, it's a sedan, it's super fast, luxurious, eye-looker, ... read more

May 31, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: VERY fast, amazingly comfortable seats, quiet ride, sleek and fast look
Cons: a price tag of $70,000
The Bottom Line: This car is amazing. Not only does this car look good, but it drives like a dream. It's so fast, and definitely worth the money.

OH MAN! Take a look at this baby. 5 liter, 394 hp, and 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. What else could you ask for?! Well, first off, when I saw an M5 at the actual BMW dealership, i wanted it soo bad. I was like a little kid wanting a piece of candy, but oh ... read more

A real sport sedan

May 31, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: BMW handling, responsiveness, and presence
Cons: $50,000+ pricetag
The Bottom Line: The 540i is the epitome of BMW's dedication to the driving experience.

When I purchased my 2001 BMW 540i with the sport package that included the 6-speed manual transmission, I was sure that it was the best handling sedan I had ever driven. The car absolutely rockets to 60 mph and has plenty of power at highway speeds, ... read more

Is it worth it?

by jeremy6969
May 28, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great handling, comfort, everything you would expect from BMW
Cons: lack of dealerships to service, huge cost to buy and maintain
The Bottom Line: If you have the means and the time to enjoy it then, make it yours. However, there is a hassle factor.

This is a great car if you value performance first and luxury second. If your priorities are different, the Audi or MB is a better choice. Yes, other cars may accelerate as fast or faster but only on a boring straight line. They don't stop as ... read more

The ultimate driving machine, yes. The ultimate car? No.

by brucec32
Mar 20, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Supreme safety, good looks, combines smooth ride and great handling,
Cons: aging design, stiff ride on sport models, overpriced, expensive to maintain
The Bottom Line: If you can really afford to put up with this car's shortcomings, I would suggest the 540i or 740i sport instead. If you can't, buy another brand.

Having owned a '97 540i, and experienced all the numerous annoying troubles that a BMW with 81,000 miles will have, we considered a new model as an alternative. Yes, we would have to trade the 282hp V-8 engine of the 540i for the 225hp inline 6 of a ... read more

Pros: Great Speed, A Pure BMW with class and sophistication
Cons: A gas eater, takes time to ajust.
The Bottom Line: Get this car if you want to be a new current James Bond, or if you just want to have class.

This series has it all, great speed and class. This is a rare car to find because it is a 2001 BMW and they always come out with a bang. This one car has great speed as I said before and the good thing is that it is very classy. The main thing I noticed ... read more
