Pros: Reliability, value, ease of operation, huge interior, AWD Cons: fuel economy with AWD, questionable safety scores, Ice Age design, quality of materials The Bottom Line: This car is a great alternative to car-based minivans for the buyer interested in durability, reliability, and the most amount of space for the money.
Previously to purchasing this vehicle, I owned a 1995 Plymouth Voyager with the infamous "Ultradrive" transmission, which was a terrible minivan and gave me nothing but 129,000 miles of lemon-scented trouble. But what do you do with lemons? You make...

Pros: Good handling for a minivan. Tons of room inside. Cons: Well, it is a minivan. The Bottom Line: If you are looking for something to haul stuff (or kids) in, this is a good van for you, plenty of room, and very convenient.
Well, just when I thought that my theory that chevy was trying to destroy itself from the inside out, here they go and they make me change my mind. They are just destroying the car industry from the inside out, the minivan part of the company is still...

Pros: Roomy, Comfortable, Economical, Reliable Cons: No rear light switch The Bottom Line: If your family is cramped in a car and a full size van is too bulky. This is the best alternative on the market. I will buy another in 2011.
This is the best van I could find for my money. I had previously owned a 1989 Astro van which Consumer Reports had rated very poorly, I had only one minor problem in the 9 years, 120,000 miles I owned it.
The 2001 Astro LT is a dream, it...

Pros: Low market price, roomy, comfortable. Reasonably good mileage for what it is. Cons: Would use more fuel with 4WD. Expect more repairs as it ages. The Bottom Line: Recommended for light hauling. Out of favor now, can be bought for a low price. Reasonably good fuel economy with large V-6 for such a large vehicle.
Bought a used 2001 Astro passenger van (rear wheel drive) in 2007. Dealer was thrilled to sell it, at a low price. In 2008, you can probably get an even better deal. It is a truck for us, for hauling and light towing, not a daily driver. We put on ...

Pros: Hauls and tows anything that you need to. Cons: Front cockpit is a bit small The Bottom Line: Best van you can buy for the money, can do anything with it. people and cargo hauler. Love the Van, if thats what it really is
Right when you think that there aren't anymore versatile vehicles on the road you look to chevy, and what do they have that no other car manufactorer has, they have the most versatile vehicle around. The chevy Astro Van is quite possibly the best van,...

Pros: Seats 8, Rear AC/Heat, Rear dutch door, Full size 2nd row seat, storage space Cons: Manual sliding door, brakes wear out quickly. The Bottom Line: Great van with a great amount of room for families. Adults can fit in all seats.
This is the perfect van for families, especially if you have 3 kids. In the LT the 2nd & 3rd row bench seats have a fold-down middle tray & cup holder (read: kid separator). Lots of room for kids, equipment, luggage, etc. Can even place things under...

Pros: Towing capacity, roomy, smooth driving Cons: Doghouse impedes front passenger
I did not want a minivan. I especially did not want a Chevy Astro van. I told my husband it looked like a big box. Then I test drove one and it drives like a dream. We bought a white one! White is easy to take care of and the way we use this vehicle...

Pros: You can get great deals on these used. Cons: A little un-stylish unless you get factory running boards.
I drove from Pittsburgh to Yellowstone and back towing a pop-up camper over two weeks with zero fatigue and no problems! And I started with 68,000 miles on the odometer.
This van was extremely comfortable. It towed my 2000 lb. camper like nothing. The VHS video system with flip down monitor was great for the kids while traveling cross-country. I purchased this in December 2003 for only $9900 and it it LOADED and was in like-new condition with only 63,000 miles when purchased. You can't beat a deal like that. I've had it for nearly one year and have only needed to replace the power steering pump (which failed AFTER we were back from vacation fortunately).
We have been extremely happy with this van. With AWD it drove extremely well in the snow last winter, even better than my little front wheel drive Saturn.
Look for a used one, 2-3 years old with less than 65,000 miles for about $10K or less and you'll be set!
