Dodge built a top-quality 70's vehicle. Too bad it's 2001!

Pros: lots of storage
Cons: poor instrument panel/dash design

I didn't buy a Durango, I rented one. That -- to me -- is a very smart method of getting to drive a vehicle wherever you want to without some salesman leaning over your shoulder and rattling off bogus statistics in your ear. It may cost you $50 or $100...

Pros: "Right" size, fuel economy, comfortable
Cons: Price

I just rented a 2001 Dodge Durango SLT for a long work related roadie. Over the course of 3 days, I put over 1400 miles on the truck. I cannot give you any long term information obviously, but hope that this will make your decision to test drive one an...

The Durango has its niche.

Pros: Right vehicle for a small family, lots of trunk space.
Cons: No safety feature for moving from Park to Drive
The Bottom Line: A great alternative to the mini-van. Very spacious cargo area when third row not in use. I recommend it as a great vehicle for the small family.

I was hesitant to write an epinion about my 2001 Dodge Durango because I felt that I am not a car expert; I know nothing about V8's, torque, suspension brakes, etc, but I am a mom of two young children and when I was looking for a new vehicle, I came...

There's a difference between inexpensive and cheap

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Beautiful smooth exterior and interior, runs great, makes sharp turns, everything is perfect
Cons: cheaply made dashboard.

I am proud to say that I am now the owner of a 2001 Dodge Durango. I bought this SUV for me. I wanted something new, reliable, and nice. This SUV is the perfect one for anyone who wants an SUV that isn't cramped, but isn't huge. The Durango is right...

Macho truck!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: bad boy look. Great handling. Very decent performance for a truck
Cons: Uses as much fuel as a 747. Wind noise at highway speed.
The Bottom Line: For people who want toughnest and power with enough comfort to relax on the road after working hard all day to have enough money to put gas in it.

I have tested both Dodge Durango SLT and R/T. My best friend had the SLT and now got the R/T.
The SLT is equipped with a V8, 5.9l engine developping 245HP. A great engine, very quiet, with lots of torque. Able to bring you from 0-60mph in about...

The Perfect Fit

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Maximum people mover seats 8!, good gas mileage with the 4.7L V-8, low maintenance
Cons: Wandering steering at highways speeds, squeaky suspension, horrible A-pillar blind spot arround corners
The Bottom Line: I looked hard and long: This is the only vehicle with that has huge seating and cargo capacity with out the BIG fuel penalty.

The Durango fits perfectly between those tiny SUVs and the big behomoths. I have driven other Durangos and I would recomend the small 4.7 liter V-8 over the older 5.2 and 5.9 V-8s. My Sport model has the 4.7 liter motor and it has almost as much ...

Great SUV

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Space, Monster Power, Super-Safe, 3 rows of seats, All the candy !
Cons: Mileage, but you should not be looking at this if fuel economy is key anyways.
The Bottom Line: Perfect size, plenty of power, quality build. If you are looking for a tuff truck that will take punishment yet provide comfort and power, this is the one.

I just read the review from the bone-head that rented it for a couple of days....sheesh, yeah, a rental, exactly what you want to base your decision on. Let me start by saying that I traded in the worst vehicle I have ever owned, a 1998 Ford...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: looks great and roomie
Cons: cheaply made dashboard, all thats missing is the kitchen sink!
The Bottom Line: I give dodge my thumbs up a great looking car at a fairly reasonanable price with great factory installed extras!

When I started looking for a new car i decieded that i wanted a SUV. Because of the large exterior it gave me the sence that I was save. We looked at all the Suv's and were stuck between the Ford Expedition and the Dodge Durango. In the end it was the...

Our first SUV and a very nice vehicle

by tashacole
Jun 29 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: climate control system, size, body style (looks), powerful engine
Cons: gas mileage and wished the dash board was more stylish
The Bottom Line: My final recommendation is to give it a try! We enjoy driving in it and are always finding excuses to go out! If price is a problem-buy used!

We have previously owned a Dodge Caravan & a Jeep Wrangler and decided to take the plunge (financial ...

Looks can be decieving, this is a lousy vehicle

by maxintosh
Jul 25 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: The "just right" size, seats 6 with real seatbelts, good pickup
Cons: Horrendous gas mileage, poor safety, suspension, topheavy, gaps in body cladding, uncomfortable seats
The Bottom Line: We were very displeased by the performance of this vehicle. We cannot reccoment it to anyone.

The Durango looks appealing, it really does. It's not a bad-looking vehicle, it boasts 88 cubic feet of storage, seating for 7, and anti-lock brakes. It's when you take a closer look that things start to fall apart.

"Don't judge a book by its...

I own an SLT plus and an R/T

Mar 26 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, Versatility, Cargo Space
Cons: Gas Mileage, Rear Suspension
The Bottom Line: A tremendously versatile vehicle if gas prices are not a concern.

My wife got a 4X4 SLT plus shortly after our first child was born and it's fantastic. She is in outside sales and put 40,000 miles on the truck last year. The SLT plus is fully loaded with leather, heated seats, dual heat/ac, cd stereo, 3rd row seats,...

Durango: A step above the rest.

by itswoodie
Jul 07 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Third row seating, comfortable, sleek design.
Cons: Price, gas mileage.
The Bottom Line: In closing, I would just like to say that compared to other mid-sized SUV's, Durango offers optimal performance for less then what the competition offers. Make Durango your SUV today.

The major SUV boom of the 90's was in the later years of the decade. For some reason, people decided bigger, stronger cars fulfilled them in a way regular cars couldn't. Realizing the public's feelings towards SUV's, car companies began to furiously...

buy an import

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: tons of power and torque, aggressive styling
Cons: poor gas mileage, interior is not ergonomic, ride and handling, steering response very slow
The Bottom Line: If I were to buy a full size SUV, it sure wouldn't be the Durango. Lots of power and torque but not much of anything else.

My brother in-law purchased a fully loaded SLT a couple months back. When he told me this, I was very excited to see it and take a test drive. Maybe I let my expectations get a little too high because when I sat in the truck, I was very disappointed....

Dec 27 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Overall SUV, Powerful engine, good design in and out.
Cons: head rest isn't too great.

I had the chance to "car sit" a 2001 Durango with 12,000km while a friend attended a 2 week training getaway. Right away i'll say that 2 weeks isn't enough to get to know a vehicle. However, being a durango fan since it's introduction, i feel...
