Beware of 2001 Dodge Durango!

by joyce3678
Mar 24, 2008 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: I really can't think of any.
Cons: Please see the letter I wrote.
The Bottom Line: Think about purchasing a different make and model if you want a safe SUV.

My husband and I bought a 2001 Dodge Durango because we wanted a truck type vehicle that was also good for traveling, cargo, etc. Since the day we bought it we have had nothing but problems. Repair after repair, recall after recall. The newest in ... read more

The Perfect Fit

by admiralnahohkt
Nov 5, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Maximum people mover seats 8!, good gas mileage with the 4.7L V-8, low maintenance
Cons: Wandering steering at highways speeds, squeaky suspension, horrible A-pillar blind spot arround corners
The Bottom Line: I looked hard and long: This is the only vehicle with that has huge seating and cargo capacity with out the BIG fuel penalty.

The Durango fits perfectly between those tiny SUVs and the big behomoths. I have driven other Durangos and I would recomend the small 4.7 liter V-8 over the older 5.2 and 5.9 V-8s. My Sport model has the 4.7 liter motor and it has almost as much ... read more

Mar 28, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Space, Monster Power, Super-Safe, 3 rows of seats, All the candy !
Cons: Mileage, but you should not be looking at this if fuel economy is key anyways.
The Bottom Line: Perfect size, plenty of power, quality build. If you are looking for a tuff truck that will take punishment yet provide comfort and power, this is the one.

I just read the review from the bone-head that rented it for a couple of days....sheesh, yeah, a rental, exactly what you want to base your decision on. Let me start by saying that I traded in the worst vehicle I have ever owned, a 1998 Ford ... read more

BUYER BEWARE: Don't Buy The 4.7 Liter Engine!

by scharnet
Apr 18, 2004 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: SEATS! Drink Holders Infinity Stereo System ROCKS! All the bells and whistles!
Cons: ENGINE Design (4.7 liter only) DODGE MECHANICS MPG RIDES/SOUNDS LIKE A TRUCK
The Bottom Line: Buy a 5.2 or 5.9 Steer clear of the 4.7!!

I consider this more of an "express" rating, so I can alert anyone considering buying a used Durango. THE 4.7 LITER ENGINE IS DISPOSABLE. What that means is - if something goes wrong internally they can't just replace a part, the whole entire ... read more

Jun 29, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: climate control system, size, body style (looks), powerful engine
Cons: gas mileage and wished the dash board was more stylish
The Bottom Line: My final recommendation is to give it a try! We enjoy driving in it and are always finding excuses to go out! If price is a problem-buy used!

We have previously owned a Dodge Caravan & a Jeep Wrangler and decided to take the plunge (financial ... read more

The Durango has its niche.

Jun 29, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Right vehicle for a small family, lots of trunk space.
Cons: No safety feature for moving from Park to Drive
The Bottom Line: A great alternative to the mini-van. Very spacious cargo area when third row not in use. I recommend it as a great vehicle for the small family.

I was hesitant to write an epinion about my 2001 Dodge Durango because I felt that I am not a car expert; I know nothing about V8's, torque, suspension brakes, etc, but I am a mom of two young children and when I was looking for a new vehicle, I came ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, Versatility, Cargo Space
Cons: Gas Mileage, Rear Suspension
The Bottom Line: A tremendously versatile vehicle if gas prices are not a concern.

My wife got a 4X4 SLT plus shortly after our first child was born and it's fantastic. She is in outside sales and put 40,000 miles on the truck last year. The SLT plus is fully loaded with leather, heated seats, dual heat/ac, cd stereo, 3rd row seats, ... read more

by Economist33
Sep 29, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great style
Cons: ?
The Bottom Line: Great, dependable, some problems.

The Dodge Durango doesn't look like normal SUVs when you first look at it. I think that is why it is such a great one. It is different. Inside, it is luxurious and comfortable. It has an optional third row seat which is a little small, but it works. ... read more

Durango - a car for me

by mitjas
Jul 30, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Maneuverability, size, quality and design of chassis
Cons: Gas usage
The Bottom Line: I recommend you that you buy a Dodge Durango, unless you actually can not afford 15 gallons/100 miles gas usage. If you can, get it, because it is worth it.

I still remember the day when I first sat behind a wheel and my daddy taught me how to drive. It is not so long ago. It was at the beginning at this year. At first, I remember, I was a little afraid, but when I felt Durango, felt how it goes, learnt how ... read more

Looks can be decieving, this is a lousy vehicle

by maxintosh
Jul 25, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: The "just right" size, seats 6 with real seatbelts, good pickup
Cons: Horrendous gas mileage, poor safety, suspension, topheavy, gaps in body cladding, uncomfortable seats
The Bottom Line: We were very displeased by the performance of this vehicle. We cannot reccoment it to anyone.

The Durango looks appealing, it really does. It's not a bad-looking vehicle, it boasts 88 cubic feet of storage, seating for 7, and anti-lock brakes. It's when you take a closer look that things start to fall apart. "Don't judge a book by its ... read more

Durango: A step above the rest.

by itswoodie
Jul 7, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Third row seating, comfortable, sleek design.
Cons: Price, gas milage.
The Bottom Line: In closing, I would just like to say that compared to other mid-sized SUV's, Durango offers optimal performance for less then what the competition offers. Make Durango your SUV today.

The major SUV boom of the 90's was in the later years of the decade. For some reason, people decided bigger, stronger cars fulfilled them in a way regular cars couldn't. Realizing the public's feelings towards SUV's, car companies began to furiously ... read more

Jun 15, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: lots of interior space and seating, definitely not a SUV mini-wannabee!!!
Cons: Fuel Consumption! You get more mileage out of a can of beans!!
The Bottom Line: Bang for the buck this is the best Mid-Size SUV around!!! Explorer 2002 don't waste your time, too little too late!!!

Overall I am very satisfied with my D. I leased the 5.9 R/T and loved the fact that with all the Durango's on the road I have yet to see another R/T, just a bunch of SLT's. (No offense) :) The R/T is the big daddy, 17 inch wheels, larger sway ... read more

Mar 22, 2001 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A very robust vehicle; Dodge's best product so far.
Cons: Price; no head protection bag
The Bottom Line: A Durango finds its spot in the heart of most Americans thanks to its smooth image and powerful ride on the roads.

Would you not go test-drive a Durango if you were offered $50.00? That's the type of marketing freebies that my wife received in the mail lately. Knowing that I have always wanted to test-drive a Durango, she handed me the envelope. It was up to me to ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: looks great and roomie
Cons: cheaply made dashboard, all thats missing is the kitchen sink!
The Bottom Line: I give dodge my thumbs up a great looking car at a fairly reasonanable price with great factory installed extras!

When I started looking for a new car i decieded that i wanted a SUV. Because of the large exterior it gave me the sence that I was save. We looked at all the Suv's and were stuck between the Ford Expedition and the Dodge Durango. In the end it was the ... read more

Macho truck!

Mar 5, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: bad boy look. Great handling. Very decent performance for a truck
Cons: Uses as much fuel as a 747. Wind noise at highway speed.
The Bottom Line: For people who want toughnest and power with enough comfort to relax on the road after working hard all day to have enough money to put gas in it.

I have tested both Dodge Durango SLT and R/T. My best friend had the SLT and now got the R/T. The SLT is equipped with a V8, 5.9l engine developping 245HP. A great engine, very quiet, with lots of torque. Able to bring you from 0-60mph in about ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Overall SUV, Powerful engine, good design in and out.
Cons: head rest isn't too great.

I had the chance to "car sit" a 2001 Durango with 12,000km while a friend attended a 2 week training getaway. Right away i'll say that 2 weeks isn't enough to get to know a vehicle. However, being a durango fan since it's introduction, i feel ... read more

Cons: cheaply made dashboard.

I am proud to say that I am now the owner of a 2001 Dodge Durango. I bought this SUV for me. I wanted something new, reliable, and nice. This SUV is the perfect one for anyone who wants an SUV that isn't cramped, but isn't huge. The Durango is right ... read more
