Pros: Easy to understand operation, easy to work on, rides nice Cons: reliability issues, not a real 4X4 The Bottom Line: First year Escape plagued with too many problems stemming mainly from design.
I watched her from the office as she bent over. She had her hands full of valuables from the glove box and was looking to see how to get the plate off. I figured her husband would be back later for a late night plate heist. No biggy, we’ve been through ...

Pros: Room, styling, power, ride and handling (for an SUV), price Cons: Noise, rear seat mechanism, noise, no low range, noise The Bottom Line: Great package, I just wish the ride were quieter.
I am not an SUV person. I never have liked them, and probably never will. They simply involve too many trade-offs relative to cars. Still, I was intrigued by the Ford Escape. It was engineered largely by Mazda on a car chassis, with the priority being ...

Pros: safe, comfortable, fun to drive Cons: long wait to buy, not for off-roaders The Bottom Line: Want an SUV that drives like a car, but still gives you excellent space? The new Ford Escape was made for you!
When we first had a baby, I was driving an Eclipse Spyder. Needless to say, this is not a baby car. As a matter of fact, I refuse to put my son in it. For a year, we managed to get by with one car that we could take our son around in. But, being an...

Pros: Excellent V6. Competent handler, lots of interior space for this class Cons: Questionable quality (five recalls!), ride can get noisy, not true off-roader The Bottom Line: It's very appealing, but there are plenty of reliability issues that need to be addressed before I'd recommend this SUV.
Sick of politics? After this election year, who wouldn't be? I mean, all those amusing bumbles and hyperbolic exaggerations... luckily, things have subsided for now (until 4 years from now, that is). But do exaggerations exist elsewhere to fill the...

Pros: Zippy, Sporty, Plenty of Room, Good Value
Cons: Hard Plastic Interior, Needs Bigger Gas Tank,
The Bottom Line: Great entry into min-SUV market. Still has a few interior rough edges the designers missed.
With all the problems surrounding the Ford Explorer, the Ford Escape is about the only thing keeping a smile on your local dealers face. These cars are selling faster than Blues Clues videos at a pre-school convention – and having driven one...

Pros: price, gas mileage, handling Cons: not like most SUV's in off road capabilities
For the last several months I have been wondering whether or not I might want to buy a new car. I have taken many test drives with somewhat mixed results and have found no vehicle that is totally to my liking. All this may have just changed as I test...

Ever since my wife's and kids' recent accident in her 1998 Toyota Corolla, we have been looking for a vehicle that can meet her needs. Having an article about the 2001 Ford Escape, she decided to go test drive it. Who am I to resist or put up a fight?...

Pros: Fairly perky V6, interior is roomy, superb optional sound system with 6-CD in-dash player Cons: Style is not for everyone, noise. The Bottom Line: A great little SUV for hauling around a lot of stuff, has enough power for everything except the drag-strip. A great all around vehicle for most people's needs.
This February will mark the 2-year anniversary for my little Escape. I have mostly fond memories as I look back on our adventures.
I admit that I have not driven too many cars in my life and the Escape is my first car. I will also admit that...

Pros: Affordability, dependability, and great handling in a smaller SUV body. Cons: Awkward shift lever. The Bottom Line: A great family car and stylish alternative to those who do not want a huge SUV (with huge gas expenses) or a bulky mini van.
This compact SUV is anything but. It's interior is roomy in both the front and the back seats. The only place that categorizes this SUV as a "mini" is in the cargo area - which is smaller than your standard SUV, but still quite roomy. My first...

Pros: Affordable, Stylish Cons: Can't Find any yet
I admit I was anti-SUV for a long time. "They are too expensive, use too much gas, and cost too much to repair." Well I am eating my words! I am a proud owner of a 2001 Black Escape XLS. I was sold after the 1st test drive. The truck rides...

Pros: Acceleration, Handling Cons: NOISE, cheap plastic interior, poor interior lighting, bad fuel economy, warranty repairs The Bottom Line: Summary. Again, nice styling, nice engine, nice handling...nothing else is nice. Noisey, quality problems, and obviously cheap on the interior.
I was excited to get this vehicle as my next company lease vehicle as I thought the styling was good and offered utility in a better package.
Initial impressions were good as they were based on the engine performance and handling. Both are...

Pros: Cabin space, looks, handling Cons: Engine noise, aircon noise, plasticky interior The Bottom Line: Highly recommended. Value for money.
First of all let me make it absolutely clear that I am reviewing the Escape XLS which is available in SINGAPORE. Some of the features or complaints I have may not apply to those models available in other countries.
I took delivery of the SUV...

Pros: Excellent size, function, power (V6), ingress/egress, visibility, and value. Cons: "Tinny" sounding doors, shift lever blocks radio. The Bottom Line: If you love it, you will not regret it. It's quirks are so minute that they can be easily overlooked.
Ford did something right with this vehicle. It fits a popular niche nowadays - the car-like SUV.
Although it has some ergonomic quirks, it is still an excellent vehicle and value. Beware however, that since this is the Escape's first year,...

Pros: nice pick-up, strong V6 engine, nice handling, great value for the $, stylish Cons: frequent gas stops, mpg less than promised, some design issues The Bottom Line: For someone who doesn't need to go off-road but likes the feel of an SUV, the Escape is the way to go. Stylish, supreme power(V6), poor gas mileage.
Updated (see bottom!) When Ford decided to enter the small SUV market, they hit it dead on with the Escape. The 2001 Escape comes standard with a CD player which is really nice, however the standard 4-cylinder engine has much to be desired (so I ...

Pros: I love my Escape! Cons: Gas Mileage could be better, but it's manageable The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this vehicle! You will not be disappointed
My wife and I recently traded in my 96 Dodge Dakota P/U with 96K miles on it for this wonderful Ford Escape. After making a list of about 13 cars we thought we'd like, we went on-line and researched them all. After weeding out those, "can't afford"...
