Good Enough To Get The Kids and SOME Groceries

by
Jun 15, 2011 (Not Yet Rated)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Worker, very basic and technical, reliability, captain chair comfort
Cons: Low HP for size, clunky 3rd row, cheap plastic, heavy rear door w/o elec assist
The Bottom Line: It's an overall great TRUCK, but if you carrying family over trailers, a FLEX may meet your needs better.

I suppose that there really isn't much bad to say about this car, it's a reliablity tank (not a problem not covered by a recall) as long as things like oil, brake, and tire changes were steady and on time. There is a fair deal of "pet-peeve" cons ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable, Powerful, Strong, Sturdy, Reliable, Safe
Cons: Uses up a lot of gas.
The Bottom Line: If you are in the market for a SUV it does not get better than this.

The expedition is the best automobile I have ever owned. I put over 150,000 miles on this truck and have had no engine problems. The only problems I have had are your typical brake replacements and a minor electrical short. The truck is unmatched in ... read more

May 2, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Looks, comfort, high driving position, driver visibility.
Cons: Would like better gas mileage, but it wasn't bought for good gas mileage!
The Bottom Line: So far, I have no reasons not to recommend this vehicle.

I purchased my 2001 Eddie Bauer Expedition used from a used car dealer. Although I have only driven it for three months, these are my initial impressions. I was replacing my 1993 Suburban with something to pull my travel trailer. I looked at ... read more

NOTHING BUT LEMONS?

by
Feb 21, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: looks, Room
Cons: Defective Parts, Gas Mileage
The Bottom Line: This Vehicle has so many problems I wish I would have bought something else. Everyone I have talked to that owned an Expedition said the same thing.

I Purchased my 2001 Eddie Bauer 5.4 Ford Expedition in Feb. 2001, with thirty four miles on it. The SUV was a must for the room. I am a single mother of four, and a mini van was not even close to what I wanted in looks. I searched for an SUV for ... read more

Jun 7, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: So many nice features to offer.
Cons: Seemingly trivial ergonomic irritations took the fun out of it.
The Bottom Line: If you're not nit-picky like me, it's OK.

Oh the excitement of buying a new vehicle - loaded up with every conceivable option. Bought the Eddie Bauer model and spent a bundle on this vehicle. I'd previously owned GM products. The 2001 Expedition was a disappointment. It currently has 51K ... read more

We had the chance to buy a new vehicle this year and a lot of thought went into it. As a family of 6 and 2 of the boys heading teenage years, we outgrew our Ford Windstar and decided living in Canada and back in the boonies we needed something that was 4 ... read more

A real SUV

by
Jun 2, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Rugged, durable and lots of power. Nice options, too.
Cons: Fuel economy that comes with V-8 power. Little inconveniences that add up.
The Bottom Line: Need a tough, rugged and dependable SUV that isn't as big as a Suburban but not a "starter" SUV like a Durango? This is your SUV.

SUV's are what they are. I chuckle at people who write that the Ford Expedition is too big, too bulky and rides too rough. It's what an SUV is "supposed" to be. All these things. If you want to take the scenic tour through the nice paved roads of ... read more

Nov 8, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Triton V8 Power; Enormous Carrying Capacity; Generous Passenger Acreage; Gutsy 4x4 Ability
Cons: Triton V8 Gas Mileage; You Can't Throw A Stick Without Hitting One
The Bottom Line: Easy to steer in a parking lot, easy to drive on the road, easy to drive on a two-track, grin-inspiringly powerful, cavernous inside, with abysmally bad gas mileage.

With home ownership comes a whole new set of necessary items to buy and errands to run, but until late October we'd been able to use one or the other of our sedans for everything we needed. (you can fit a 12' roll of carpet into a Volvo sedan, by ... read more

Pros: Reliable, roomy, fun to drive, powerful.
Cons: Expensive, requires some effort to get in and out (running board step).
The Bottom Line: The Ford Expedition is an excellent family vehicle, allowing for 8 passengers. Handles well. Comfortable.

Every year or two, I decide that it's time to purchase a new car. My wife and I have owned several car models, and two motorcycles. Our last car was a 1997 Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition. This was a program car that we got a good deal on. We quickly ... read more

When size DOES matter and fuel economy does not

by
Aug 22, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Solid chassis from time tested F-150 pickup; roomy, rugged, & fun
Cons: Gas mileage is typical of SUV's (12-16mpg); sticker price shock
The Bottom Line: This is a big dog! If 4 wheel drive, roominess, and ruggedness are more important than fuel economy, then this is your ride.

The 2001 Ford Expedition is a Sports Utility Vehicle that gets you noticed. It's big, it's bad, and it turns a few heads when you drive it. This beast also causes others to stop and gawk when you go to parallel park into a tight space, for that ... read more

by
Aug 6, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks, Comfort
Cons: Gas Mileage, Horsepower
The Bottom Line: If you want a vehicle that gets great gas mileage along with tons of rear wheel horsepower, consider a Tahoe or Yukon before making your final purchase.

I purchased my Eddie Bauer Expedition three months ago. I compared the Tahoe and Expedition head to head before making my decision. I hate to be a stick in the mud as everyone at Epinions that has rated their Expedition seems to really love them, but I ... read more

The Bottom Line: Never get one unless you feel like losing a ton of money.

I purchased a 2000 Ford Expedition because I needed a big SUV. I thought that this would be a sensible choice, because most everyone that I talked to said they were great cars. So I got a fully loaded one with leather and everything. For the first ... read more

Cons: gas guzzler
The Bottom Line: Try it, you'll love it

At the 1st glance at an Expedition back in 1997, I was hooked. The only thing I was skeptical about was the fuel economy of SUVs and the safety of them. I finally got the courage to go in for a test drive in 1999... Well lets just say the rest is ... read more

The Bottom Line: The best full size SUV for the money. Tows like a champ. Great crash ratings.

I didn't buy my Expedition so I could run errands in town, or drive my kids to practice. I bought it to tow our 5000 lb travel trailer and all of our camping gear. We couldn't have picked a better truck! With the 5.4 liter V8, 3.92 limited slip rear ... read more
