A very reliable and versatile vehicle!

Jul 2, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, versatile, good milage, plenty of cargo space.
Cons: Heavy seats, tire lamp, minor convenince issues.
The Bottom Line: An excellent all-around vehicle that should be in everyone's driveway. Easy handling, reliable, versatile, and good gas milage.

I purchased this van used at a Ford dealership in my area about two years ago, so I feel I have had sufficient time to evaluate it. I purchased this in August of 2004. Only my mother and I drive this van, and we generally use it for cargo, so I can't ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth Ride, Power, Features
Cons: Annoying Problems
The Bottom Line: If you can live with some minor annoyances and small repairs, the features make this van worth a look.

We were having problems with our 1995 Pontiac Transport and were looking to buy a newer used minivan. We did some research an determined the Ford Windstar was met our needs the best and was priced right. We bought a 2001 Windstar with 31K miles in ... read more

Good van - should be more reliable

by
Dec 1, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice family van
Cons: Again, as with previous 1996 model - excessive repairs
The Bottom Line: Nice family van but I have to think that there is something else out there more reliable. Next time I'm looking at a Honda Oddessy.

I own a 1996 Windstar and found that many odd parts need repair (see review). My parents purchased a 2001 and have had the same sort of odd problems; air conditioner compressor failed, tie rods, etc. Since Windstars were introduced in 1995, I would ... read more

If you need a mini-van seriously consider the Windstar

by
Jun 7, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, Reliable, Entertainment System, Safety, Price and Looks
Cons: Turning radius would be my biggest complaint, slightly rough shifting
The Bottom Line: I think that Consumer Reports have pushed the Honda & Toyota, which are good vehicles, but for the price difference and availability the Windstar is an notable choice.

I was another Mom that did not want to drive a mini-van, but when you are hauling a group of soccer kids or a paintball team, you need a big vehicle and a Suburban seems like a waste of gas. The Windstar gets decent gas mileage, has plenty of ... read more

Happy with our '01 Windstar - most of the time

by
May 26, 2003 - Updated May 27, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Easy access to controls, roomy, comfortable, nice ride, kid friendly!
Cons: Power doors fail! Selling price vs. resale is poor!
The Bottom Line: I would say it is definitely a "contender" but shop around for what best suits your needs.

We purchased our 2001 Windstar SEL in Sept. '01 at a hefty price tag of $32,000. I checked the resale of our Windstar today (May '03 - one year and 8 months later) and our $32,000 is now worth a whopping $16,000! WHAT??? Talk about depreciation! ... read more

by
May 2, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Strong motor, great safety, good layout, quality interior.
Cons: Not as flashy as Chrysler or GM products, gas milage could be better.
The Bottom Line: A roomy, sporty, safe, well appointed minivan with the best safety of the big 3.

We had a 2000 Ford Taurus SE for about a year, but a long road trip with our 3 children taught us that we needed more room. A quick search on the internet led us to the Ford Dealer for a 2001 SE Sport. I chose the sport for it's sharper ... read more

Bread and butter, but not world-class

by
Apr 26, 2002 - Updated May 13, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: powerful engine, amenities, better seats than 95-98 models
Cons: soft ride, marginal handling, refinement (lack of)
The Bottom Line: The Windstar is a solid choice for those who want a decent van with good power and a reasonably large number of amenities at a good price

In search of minivans, we were looking for good performance, decent gas mileage, good reliability and good utility. With the '01 Windstar, we found most of that, but in comparison to the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna, this somewhat antiquated ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable, safety features, relatively smooth ride, entertainment system is great for the kids
Cons: Some initial problems, heavy rear bench seat.
The Bottom Line: Overall, we like the vehicle very much. My wife is the primary driver and finds the vehicle easy to drive; a great family vehicle.

Owned the vehicle for eight months. We initially had a sliding door alignment problem (slight leak when raining). It took two trips to the dealer to correct. The door has not leaked since the second alignment. Second problem was in the airbag system. ... read more

Pros: Roomy, solid build, plenty of power
Cons: Rear door hard to open
The Bottom Line: I would not hesitate to try this one out.

We needed a minivan for our family. Tried out the 2001 model with no extras-base model. It has plenty of power and I know what I'm talking about. I have some high-powered vehicles and hate limp-wristed rides. Easy to get in and out of. Durable materials, ... read more

Due to a combination of circumstances with which I will not bore my busy audience, it was recently necessary that I make a trip from Boston, MA to Atlanta, GA and back, a journey of some 1000-odd miles each way. Due to the amount of luggage that needed ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Convenient, Practical, Smooth Ride (when it works)
Cons: Unpredictable, Drinks Gas
The Bottom Line: I would not drop this much cash on this van - it has too many problems to be worth it.

I first drove the 2001 Windstar as a rental in Orlando this January. I was quite impressed. It had a smooth ride, convenient features, and easy handling. So, when my husband switched to a job with a car allowance the next month, my vote was in! ... read more
