Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: This car is FUN!
Cons: Wheel Skirts and blind spots
The Bottom Line: I love this car. The benefits are much more important to me than its flaws. It is fun to drive.

I bought a Honda Insight about two weeks ago and wanted to share my experiences with you. I live in the Denver/Boulder area of Colorado. I had been driving a Geo Metro. I am used to driving a small car that is inexpensive to operate. The Insight ...

Pros: One year later, and still loving it
Cons: Low ground clearance, tiny horn, inadequate sound system
The Bottom Line: This is a model of car that may not be around much longer, but it has been far more fun to drive than I thought.

With the turn of the new year, 2003, it is a good time to take a look back at the past 12 months driving one of the most unique cars on the road today.

The 2001 Honda Insight was, for me, a step outside of my regular buying patterns. I'd...

Pros: Good gas mileage
Cons: Not great gas mileage
The Bottom Line: A role player of a vehicle. If you need it for what it does then consider it as it does those things quite well.

So after test driving the 2000 Honda Insight a few times my SO and I decided on getting the 2001 model year. Why the 2001? Well, it is the first model year to offer the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) option, which would allow for either of us...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun to Drive, Great on gas
Cons: Blind Spots, Poor Radio
The Bottom Line: Fun to Drive, Looks Great, Great Gas Mileage, Win Win Situation

If you do the math, comparing the mileage as opposed to most cars, or especially if it is a gas guzzler, you will see over a 4 year period how the car saves enough on gas to pay for itself. This is our send Insight. Both have been a 2001, same ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun drive, Gas Mileage (duh), surprising performance, great AC
Cons: Many people asking stupid questions
The Bottom Line: If you need a car from commuting purposes this one will save you thousands.

Well this is fairly simply. This car is on the market for one reason, and one reason only, it provides excellent mileage. Sure this car pushes around 45-50 miles to the gallon but there are many other things that makes this car worth buying.

2001 Honda Insight, (own 2 of them!)

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Excellent mpg, ice cold AC, low maintenance costs. Original brakes lasted over 90,000 miles!
Cons: Stiff ride, not much sound proofing, weak horn, weak radio speakers.
2001 Honda Insight, 224,000 miles! 5-speed model. Runs like a top! Doesn't burn any oil. Lifetime mpg 57.3. I've been to L.A., Vegas, Tahoe, etc. Best mileage was 63.5 mpg/worst, 49 mpg, hilly with AC on.

2001 Honda Insight, 120,000 miles, Continuous Variable Trans model. Runs great, Lifetime mpg 51. (Wife's car) Best mpg 54.5/worst 45 mpg.

I have found that keeping the tires inflated, 45 psi front and 43 psi rear helps increase mpg. I drive generally 70-75 mph on the freeway 95% of the time. MPG is lower in town and with hills.

Overall, we are extremely pleased with the way the car performs.

Tip: add a Honda Pilot horn spliced into the horn wire for real sound! The stock horn isn't loud enough on the freeway. By adding the loader horn, people coming over into your lane accidentally will hear you! I did this to both cars with fantastic results.

Change the oil every 3000 using Honda 0-20 oil and Honda filters.
