My recent trip to Ireland facilitated the need for a rental car - more than a sub compact car (my mother did not know the meaning of "light luggage") but less than something full size. While I'd hoped to end up in an Opel Astra or something...

I have a Hyundai Accent and I have to say that this car has never really given me that much trouble in the years that I have had it. It is my first car and even though it doesn't have a CD player it is still a very nice car. It drives smoothly and I don't have the fear that it will tip over if I'm driving too fast, as with most small SUV s. I love the interior and for it's size it is overall very roomy. I also have put quite a few miles on it, but I am assured that it will be going strong for another 100,000 miles. For it's price, it is a good buy!!!!

Pros: Makes easy turns, great to park, very cheap, fuel economy Cons: poor quality transmission, not for freeway driving
This little car gives total bang for your buck. It's so easy to maneuver around corners and definitely a breeze to park. However this little car is not made for freeway driving. The steering wheel would shake when I reached speeds of 65+ mi/hour. It did reach San Francisco from Los Angeles although the car's entire body swayed a little bit when the winds got stronger during the trip. After hitting 65,000 mi on it's odometer, the transmission gave out on me.
There's nothing fancy in the interior but this is expected in a car within it's very affordable price range.

Pros: Inexpensive, sporty Cons: Not as many customizable options
When I went shopping for an inexpensive replacement for my Dodge Neon, I turned to Hyundai. We already had one Hyundai (Elantra), and really liked it. So, I naturally looked at the rest of their line. I loved the sporty look of the Accent GS and found one that seemed tailor-made to my liking.
The first time I got in to the car, it fit like a glove. As a "short" woman, most cars (or trucks) nearly consume me and the size of the vehicle sometimes adds to potential blind spots. Not so with the Accent. I felt like I could see everything and reach everything with ease.
In terms of maintenance and dependability, I've had few problems with the vehicle and they were covered by that fantastic warranty.
