Pros: sporty, affordable, good warranty, fun and zippy to drive Cons: wheel bearings, low resale value. The Bottom Line: A car well suited to me for the time I owned it. Aside from some fluke mechanical problems, a well-made car with mega fun factor!
Year 2001: I was young, single, blonde and just got a full time reliable job with a huge paycheck. I was shallow and wanted a car to reflect me, cute and peppy. Those were the days! I tried out the Ford Cougar, the Oldsmobile Alero, and even ...

Pros: Elegant styling and very affordable. Improved performance over last year. Cons: Still under powered and very tight in all seats. The Bottom Line: Hyundai has improved the 2001 Tiburon over previous years. There is still some room for more improvement.
Hyundai Tiburon 2001
A Shark by any other Name, Remains a Shark
The first time I saw the Hyundai Tiburon was a few years ago during one of my many trips in Asia. I then had a chance to ride in one, I was not too impressed with the...

Pros: Sporty, handles well, great warranty. Cons: Bad on ice, little trunk space. The Bottom Line: I am very happy with my Tiburon. If I had to do it all over again, I would make the same choice. I have had no problems with the car.
Why a new car?
Five months ago I was driving along in my SUV, a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo, when I took a turn too fast and almost rolled the thing. It wasn't the first time, but with my 2 year old strapped in the back seat, it really shook me up....

Pros: Price, options, style, handling. Cons: Looks so sporty and Porsche-like you might expect too much from it. The Bottom Line: If this is the class of car and the price range you're looking at, the Tiburon should top your list of cars to research, examine and test drive.
For the purpose of clarity, this car was purchased and driven in Canada.
Before I made the plunge, I researched the hell out of this car and everything in its class and price range. My final two came down to the Chrysler Neon and the Hyundai...

Pros: fun and sporty but affordable, including modest insurance rates Cons: more power in next year's (2002) will mean higher insurance rates The Bottom Line: For a very reasonably priced car with modest insurance, it's a great deal and a whole lot of fun to drive.
My friends call me anal retentive. Deciding to buy my new car was no exception - I spent about a month researching new cars, what I liked, what I didn't like, what it would cost, what fellow Epinionators thought. The Hyundai Tiburon didn't even make my...

Pros: Sleek design, Teriffic handling, lots of gusto (5-speed), well equipped. Cons: Stock tires lack grip. Poor cup holder placement. Not many after-market parts (yet) The Bottom Line: A fine car for those looking for handling prowlness and great styling for a bargain price.
I've had this car for over 6 months now (since May 2001) and it now has 7000 miles on it.
Styling
At first the styling struck me as unconventional, but I grew to like it a lot. The front end is very contemporary; Round headlights that...

Pros: Feels great, looks great, good value Cons: Bad in the snow, a little cramped The Bottom Line: Buy this car! Fun to drive, well made, and it looks great.
)6 Month Update Below Original Opinion)
OK, you can do a search on the Tiburon and find the same old thing over and over about the 140 HP engine and the "too-high" trunk lip and the small backseat. I'd like to give a little bit more; the kinds...

Pros: Sporty looks, good handling, best price in its class, and the best warranty to date. Cons: Cramped interior, a little under powered, rain flows in window, a little too noisy. The Bottom Line: For the money its a great value, but do your research. If you decide to buy it skip the CD player, get the vent-visors and skip the floor mats.
The 2001 Hyundai Tiburon is a great auto, but as with all things there is a toss up of price/functionality. For under $15,000 the Tiburon is a good deal. Now don't expect to get the handling characteristics of a Porsche, but do expect to be a little...

Pros: Cheap, great style, lots of features, nice handling Cons: Be prepared to pay for a major service, paint job, vibration, poor visibility The Bottom Line: Knowing all the cons I would still buy this car. For this price, if you want something reliable but ugly get an old Camry instead.
We recently needed to buy a replacement for our written off Saturn and we only have a budget around $7000-$8000. We've just moved to the US so we are not too keen on car financing (lack of credit history hence big interests). We both like cars with a ...

Pros: Great value, very attractive, reliable, clear & crisp sound system, long-term warranty Cons: Stock tires make too much road noise, bad seat belt retraction, low performance The Bottom Line: I recommend this car for anyone who's looking for a stylish sports car at a very reasonable price. Not if you are looking for performance though.
Update: 4/12/04 I've owned my 2001 Hyundai Tiburon for 2 years and I have no regrets in making my choice. My first choice for a car was the 2001 Toyota Celica because I was into it's stylish look. The price was a little out my range though. I did a ...

Pros: Standout styling, superb handling, excellent dealer support Cons: Goofy cupholder placement The Bottom Line: Distinctive looking car with excellent handling and an unbeatable warranty. Buy this car with confidence!
I have owned my 2000 Hyundai Tiburon since new. With 40,000 miles on it, it has proven to be trouble-free, fun transportation. It is not the most powerful on the block, but where the Tib really shines is in the handling department. It's my ...

Pros: Great looking, sporty, fun ride that is very economically priced with a great warranty. Cons: Noisy and a little cramped. The Bottom Line: Overall, if you are looking for an attractive sporty looking car with a nice zippy ride, all wrapped up in an inexpensive package, this car is for you.
We recently purchased a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon and have not regretted our purchase for one second. Although we have a toddler, my husband and I figured that we already had a mini-van and that it would make a great second car for us. While it does have a...

Pros: exotic styling, loaded, big dealer discounts available, nice handling for price Cons: survive 100k miles?, resale, you bought a "Hyundai", some cheap interior assembly and materials The Bottom Line: Until some higher mileage reviews come in, you are a Guinea Pig. Make sure you can afford to be.
I have read many positive reviews from owners of Tiburons. While I can understand the enthusiasm for such a cool looking car w/ so many accesories at a low price & loaded w/ standard features, not to mention decent performance & a low price (if you ...

Pros: Sporty appearance, reasonable price, good gas mileage Cons: Terrible in bad weather, no head room, cramped back seats The Bottom Line: I like my Tiburon, but have had many annoying problems with it. If you can afford a Celica, I would definitely stay with Toyota. You get what you pay for!
Today is the 6 month anniversary of the day I bought my Tiburon. I feel that I am now entitled to write an accurate review on it. First of all let me say " I Love my Tibby !", but let me also tell you it is a love, hate relationship. The car itself is...

Pros: A Huge surprise...compared to the old reputation of a Hyundai. Cons: The back seats maybe a problem for taller passengers. The Bottom Line: Affordable, Reliable, Sporty. This car can handle under pressure and look good while doing it. Great Warranty and virtually maintenance free.
I love it, I love it, I love it. I can't rave enough about my Tiburon. Externally a much more attractive design than it's previous model. As a first time buyer I was warned stay away from Hyundais because according to friends and family they had a...
