Aurora 4.0: Fixes many of the 3.5's problems, but adds a new one

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10
Mar 21 '00 - Updated Oct 14 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: More compact exterior, attractive styling
Cons: Jittery ride, hard to get out of rear seat
The Bottom Line: The 4.0 handles better than the 3.5 when driven aggressively, but at the expense of a jittery ride on fairly smooth surfaces.

For my review of the basic car, see my review "2001 Aurora 3.5." This review is an addendum to that one, covering the 4.0. The 3.5 has a 215 horsepower, 3.5 liter six. The 4.0 has a 250 horsepower, 4.0 liter eight. Comparably equipped, the eight ...

Pretty good, but it could have been so much better: Aurora 3.5

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smaller size, lower dash, fluid ride, balanced handling
Cons: Rear seat egress, torque steer, handling under acceleration
The Bottom Line: Good as a luxury car, needs work as a driver's car.

I remember when I first saw photos of the original Aurora. I could not believe GM was going to build this car. It was so different from everything else. I still think it is one of the best looking four doors ever. The problem was, it wasn't a good car ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Extremely comfortable, wonderful interior materials and presentation, great mileage for a large car.
Cons: Thud over bumps, rear seat leg room, interior build was rushed, or lacked QC
The Bottom Line: A great alternative that might have a few 1st year quirks, but overall an excellent vehicle.

!!!Update!!! If you are remotely interested in this car now is the time to buy! 0% for 5 years is back or a $3000 rebate is available till Sept. 02!!

The Oldsmobile Aurora is probably one of the best offerings from GM right now. With...

Not Your Father's Oldsmobile

by BrianCam Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200
Jul 22 '00 - Updated May 06 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Ride, Great V-6, Quality Materials Inside.
Cons: Tricky Front-End, Rear Seat Room.
The Bottom Line: Too bad Oldsmobile is going out of business, this is a great car, the V-8 is even more fun. Let's hope GM will keep selling it as a Buick.

General Motors has done a great job of distinguishing it's 4 domestic brands. Oldsmobile has been cast as the domestic alternative to European makes such as BMW and/or Audi. Remember the generic Monte Carlo/Regal/Cutlass/Phoenix cars of the '80s?...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great power, awesome handling, sleek design, beautiful interior with lots of lux features.
Cons: MAJOR torque steer.Seats offer no lateral support, bad control layout, weird transmission.
The Bottom Line: Awesome car. I recommend it to anyone that wants a reliable, sporty sedan, thats worthy for business use and highway use. (My 16-year-old son loves to drive this car.)

I bought this car two years after purchasing my first oldsmobile; the intigue. All in all, the intigue had great power, handling, and comfy seats, but it was a hunk of junk. The transmission was replaced twice, along with the steering column.
I...

You'll probably love it, but you better trade it the day the warranty expires.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Wonderful ride, plenty of power, big comfortable seat, good mileage for big car.
Cons: It may feel and look like a Lexus, but it isn't built like one.
The Bottom Line: So close to being a great car, but the build quality and reliability problems drag it down. Ultimately, I can't recommend it.

This car is ALMOST an amazing value. It's a beautiful car with a wonderfully powerful engine (I have the V6 and can't imagine why anybody would even consider the V8 because the V6 has unbelievable power.)

The car handles extremely well for a...

Could This Truly Be the Death of Superman?

by lemko Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000
Dec 29 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Virtually an American Lexus. Dashboard is a Work of Art
Cons: Donut Tire. Somewhat Odd-Looking Front End

In the early 1990s, DC Comics decided to kill off Superman, once its most popular super hero due to faltering sales of its Superman comics and magazines. With the announcement of Superman's death at the hands of a villain called "Doomsday,"...

There's SO MUCH To Like!

Sep 25 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Outstanding performance, lots of content for the dollar, great styling in and out
Cons: Rear seat low and slightly cramped, discontinued after 2003, and I'm really searching here folks
The Bottom Line: If the Cadillac Seville is too rich for your blood, the Aurora is a slightly decontented alternative with Northstar technology to boot!

I had the good fortune of renting this vehicle for a week last Christmas; I drove the 3.5 V-6. From the moment I got behind the wheel, I was impressed with what this car had to offer in terms of style and performance.

First things first....

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Interior features a great value, nice rear end, 3.5 sporty, efficient and inexpensive.
Cons: No 17 inch wheels on 3.5, roll induced understeer, weak base stereo, no auto manual.

Replacing my SHO is difficult, but Aurora 3.5 is the right car for the right price. I drove 5 different Auroras. A 3.5, two 4.0s, another 3.5, and a 4.0. I also test drove a Lexus GS 300, Nissan Maxima, Saab 9-5 1.7 turbo (back to back with an Aurora...

Pros: The car.
Cons: The repairs/quality.
The Bottom Line: Amazing car. If you don't care to keep it in top-notch condition, go for it. It's a rewarding experience.

This car is amazing. I am absolutely in love with it. We bought our 2001 used with 11,000 miles on it when it was nearly 3 years old. It's a 4.0L V8 model with every option available in 2001. We've loved every second of owning it. It's had an unfortunate ...

Searching For The Fast Lanes Of The Hip Crowd

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: The True Cost of Luxury and Convenience; Roomy and loaded with security features; and lots of electronic goodies
Cons: A bit too high in price!

There is no doubt that GM has been trying to position itself into the middle of the profitable Sedan Market. In fact, it is the same company that brought us Cadillac Deville and the flashy Pontiac Bonneville, Buick LeSabre etc. In 1999, GM came out...

Pros: Its everything its suppose to be

Aurora is a finely tuned to the human body as your own skin, which means that when it moves it also moves you..

:Stylish.... The body is long and taut, there is no grill so the sweeping lines flow without interruption.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: appearance, pick-up, smooth ride
Cons: "little" things go wrong

This vehicle was purchased after becoming sick of the repetitiveness of Cadillac at the time. We have owned every Aurora since its beginning year. They only continue to get better. This car has quite a bit of pick up. The engine (V-8) is quite...

2001 Aurora of Fun

by sldkfj
Dec 29 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fun to drive and fun to sleep in
Cons: too expensive

I've got to tell you, when I first saw the 2001 Aurora I was a bit under whelmed. Not that it wasn't a good-looking car; it just didn't stand out the way the original Aurora did. But the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. It is a handsome car....

Jun 02 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: American built, style, performance.
Cons: Price.

As a previous owner of a '97 Aurora and the present owner of a 2001 Aurora 4.0, I can confidently state that the new Aurora is a superior car in every way to the original. The original Aurora, while beautifully styled, is too large and heavy. The...
