Pros: Power with great mileage. Comfort, dealer service Cons: Care in elderly years grows more expensive. The Bottom Line: A solid, safe, fast, economical roomy stylish wagon, with good service, OnStar virtues. Exceeded high expectations.
I owned quite a few Volvos, a Honda, VW, before I leased (eventually buying out) a 2001 Saab 9-5 wagon, with the base 2.3 engine, automatic. My big decision was driven by Consumer Reports favorable reliability rating of the Saab. I have never been ...

Pros: Nice car, great service, heated seats! Cons: This is not exactly an economy car, if you know what I mean. The Bottom Line: This car is great, and the service that you get at the dealership is even better.
I bought a new 2001 Saab 9-5 sedan about a month ago, and I can't get over it. It is a great car. Its no Jaguar, but hey, its not meant to be!
In the following article I will list the features that the car has, provide comments on those...

Pros: Safe, comfortable, safe, handles well, good performance, safe Cons: Onstar did not work as advertised, Dissapointing gas milage, lack of cupholders, The Bottom Line: It saved my life.
Intro
Before I start the review, a little truth in advertising:
I had a previous review written about this car from a utilitarian and comfort view point. Unfortunately, a Cadillac speeding through a red light (40+ MPH) allowed me to...

Pros: Seating capacity, rear seat seat heat, mpg, sportiness, cargo capacity Cons: base model rearview mirror doesn't have automatic dim, needs more cupholders in the front seat The Bottom Line: It's a great car to drive -- comfortable, roomy, sturdy and reliable. And you get all that without sacrificing sportiness.
About six months ago my now-husband and I decided to trade two cars (a 99 Saab 900S and a 99 Pontiac Grand Am) for one nice car. We already had a GMC Jimmy that we loved, and were thinking second SUV. We pretty much ruled out anything small or a...

Pros: Good ergonomics, Handles well, 2.3 turbo is quick. OnStar. Comfortable for tall folks. Cons: Not as quiet as cars in price range. Known problem: hot weather and the horn. The Bottom Line: Great Vehicle, one known defect, horn switch needs to be replaced on some, if it gets really hot out. Comfortable, good power, Great interior, nice features.
Ours is fully loaded:
I never liked the looks of SAAB, well until they went to this newer body style. Now that they are owned by GM, keep an eye open for new models and many good things ahead. This is our first SAAB. Seriously, this is one of...

Pros: Safe, solid, stylish, value for the $, very reliable, fun to drive, practical. Cons: Low re-sale value, expensive to maintain. The Bottom Line: Buy it and keep it for 400,000 miles!
I will admit my personal bias upfront. We've owned many Saabs ('89 900 Turbo, '89 9000 CD Turbo, '96 900S [reviewed here], '97 9000 Aero, and this 9-5 V6 wagon) and I like them a great deal. Not so much so that I am blindedly one-sided, though. I have...

Pros: Excellent build quality, safety features and performance Cons: Very big and bulky, and not the most modern styling. The Bottom Line: The Saab 9-5 is a great car for anyone who wants superb performance yet have the practically of a family saloon.
The Saab 9-5 is not the most obvious sports car. The body is big and chunky, and it looks a big, solid, heavy car. But lurking underneath is an incredibly quick and nimble car, with a ton of luxury to boot.
Saab have always been known to...

Pros: Great handling, highway acceleration, quality, feels like a euro-sedan should. Cons: FM reception not great. Minor problems described above. Headlight wipers are pointless. The Bottom Line: Great handling euro-sedan that gets excellent mileage and can be bought for a song. What's not to like.
Bought a 2001 9-5 with 75,000 miles on it this summer and I'm really happy with it. The black leather interior really stands up well, everybody thinks it's a new car. Very fun to drive, fantastic acceleration, particularly good in heavy rain. These cars ...

Pros: Huge trunk; Monster V-6 turbo engine is efficient;Loaded with features Cons: Sleeper styling;Firm ride; reliability of the V6; below average resale value. The Bottom Line: This roomy sedan has among the largest trunk and rear leg room combined with a smooth and fast engine. My car was unreliable, but try the 4 cylinder.
I purchased my 2001 9-5 3.0 Turbo as a certified used vehicle with 32K miles. I traded a V8 Explorer and needed a large trunk and better mileage, which the 9-5 definitely has. After test driving the Acura 3.2TL (tiny trunk and bland), Lexus 300GS ...

Pros: Beautiful, sporty, fast. Useful, roomy, extremely comfortable for driver and passengers. Excellent build quality. Cons: In mostly city driving, I only acheive about 20 mph Not enough cupholders. The Bottom Line: If you can afford this car, buy it. If you have kids and animals, buy the wagon (if you can find one). Comfort, style, quality, speed, handling, safety.
My 2001 Saab 9-5 SE Sportwagon is the best car I have ever owned. It is utilitarian, yet stylish. Heavy, yet fast. Simple, yet luxurious. Solid, yet supple. Plush, yet athletic. From the most comfortable and supportive heated and ventilated seats, to ...

expensive parts The Bottom Line: Be prepared for somewhat higher maintenace costs but a unique ride experience. I could get a Honda but... its not the same thing.
This car never screams at you. its very subtle. in fact i bought it on a whim at a dealer lot. its a used car with 70,000 miles. The cars have low resale so i figured it was a good deal. I have to tell you these cars grow on you and charm you. Things ...

Pros: Comfort
Front and rear heated seats Cons: Quality
Reliability The Bottom Line: Would you purchase a car that loses it's transmission at 69,000 miles? Saab owners demand quality, not a rebadged Chevy Impala.
I own a 2001 Saab SE with 69,900 miles on it. I come from a long line of Saab owners, yet broke from family tradition and purchased two BMW's (1985 BMW 325e and 1993 325is) which I loved and were trouble-free. In 2001, I contemplated a 5 series, but ...

Pros: Sportiness, Design, Comfort, Practicality, Gas milage, Safety, Features Cons: Repair Costs, Lack of Functional Cupholders, Less reliable than the average car The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a practical vehicle, without the comprimise of sports car handling or fuel economy.
I own a 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3L Turbo Wagon. Even 8 years after the car was new, it still beats current cars with its design, safety, and performance. Mine now has 150,000 miles. We've had only a few repairs in the car's older years... ...

Pros: Capable and spacious when running, good gas mileage, luxury, sporty. Cons: Known design problems leading to expensive fixes and stranding. Opel/Chevy ancestors. The Bottom Line: As a low-cost used car, treated as disposable, might be fun. If health or job indicates an ultra-reliable car, stay away. Be careful of any GM Saab.
Owner of several Saabs: 99, 900, and pretty much a car guy. I bought a 2000 9-5 as a used car in 2004 with 55kmi. 2.3 engine (4 with turbo), wagon body, automatic.(Same problems endemic to at least first 4 years, according to others; V6 engine no ...
