by staceyleigh
Oct 02 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Small, economical, all-wheel drive
Cons: Small, no cruise control
The Bottom Line: Great commuter car, good road trip car, excellent Mommy car and winter vehicle!

I know I'm treading on some traditional male territory but... I love this car! It's been a fantastic mommy car and a great family car!
Late December 2000, I took my 1992 Subaru Legacy wagon in for routine 120,000-mile maintenance. After hearing...

Nice handling, but lacking in some amenities

by eswope

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Nice tight road feel, great safety record, decent fuel economy, reliable and durable.
Cons: Mostly details: lacks some standard amenities, poorly designed interior componants
The Bottom Line: A nice drive if you like a solid road feel or face treacherous conditions. Fewer amenities than others in it's class and a bit cramped in the back seat.

We purchased the Subaru Impreza as a replacement for a 12 year old Honda which was on it's last legs. I'd actually been looking for an outback, but got such a great deal on this car, that we took it (and will be purchasing an outback when the new model ye ...

Impreza 2.5 RS Model

May 30 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: All Wheel Drive, Sporty, Good Gas Mileage, Very Reliable
Cons: Paint chips easy. Touchy anti-lock brakes
The Bottom Line: My 2.5RS have been great for the last year and 50,000 miles. Not a single problem, squeak or rattle.

I purchased my Suby 2.5RS just over a year ago. The sticker price was $20,900, I paid $18,800 with an alarm system installed. It came standard with all-wheel drive, AC, PW, PL, Sunroof, 4-wheel disk brakes with 4-wheel anti-lock, cruise, CD-cassette...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: AWD, a lot of standard equipment, stylish
Cons: no pass through trunk
The Bottom Line: An awesome car, unique because of its all wheel drive system. Perfect for winter.

I recently bought a Subaru Impreza. I choose the sedan TS version. Why a Subaru? The all wheel drive of course.
Living in Canada, and having to go to work even when snowstorm are hitting us, I felt I would be much safer driving an all wheel drive....

Great little car, all in all

by ra_and_ra

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, good handling, feels more substantial than its peers, AWD gives it 4 season capability
Cons: Cramped back seat, small cargo area, pricier , mileage less than 30 MPG on highway
The Bottom Line: Would recommend the Impreza as a great new or used car for its reliability, all-wheel drive, substantial feel.

We bought a 2001 Subaru Impreza Outback as a replacement for a 1996 Subaru Loyale, and it was miles ahead of the Loyale in every area. The Impreza Outback handles well, feels more substantial than competitors of that era (including the Civic and ...

The Japanese WRX Impreza is crossing the pond

by VTEC
Oct 30 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: All around great car
Cons: No coupe version, delayed release of Sport Shift Transmission

We’ve all seen the commercials. They come on during one of your favorite prime time shows, or when the game is on, always there to bother during the pause for station identification. The commercial were you see Paul Hogan dressed in full...

Foreign Automotive Intelligence! (as usual)

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: WRX: Could this be the best all-around car ever?
Cons: Nothing!!! Should have been here sooner!
The Bottom Line: The Subaru Impreza WRX finally gives deprived North Americans what they really want! Another example of perfect design from overseas.

I don't own one yet, but I will very soon. This is going to be my first new car.

From reading the reviews, this looks to be the most complete car in every possible way. What more can you ask for? It will seat 4 adults with no difficulty, the...

Subaru Impreza TS is a very safe car to drive in any weather
by diesel168

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: good traction, understeering, sporty bucket seats, sporty exterior, standard fog lamps, and affordable price
Cons: bad all season tires, interior is simple and out of date, and no trunk lights
The 2001 Subaru Impreza TS is a good car for families that have safety in mind. This car handles very well in the rain and in the snow. We need to thanks for their AWD system that gave us the the traction we need in any weathers.

Do NOT buy this car!!!!!!!!!!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Handles well in bad road conditions.
Cons: Everything else.
I bought one new and got rid of it before the 3-year warranty ran out. It broke down on a regular basis. I did not trust it enough for road trips. The problems weren't even related - electrical, transmission, brakes, you name it. The car was constantly in the dealership service shop and often spent 1-2 weeks there, and even then the problem wasn't always fixed. They had to put a new engine in it at 17,000 miles. This is the worst car I or anyone I know has ever had. Also their customer service is atrocious. Time after time I had to call and call corporate people, who were incredibly rude, to get them to pay for the repairs, rental cars, etc. that the warranty supposedly covers. It was a battle to even get simple questions answered. Both the car and the company are horrible!

2001 2.5 RS Sedan; long term review

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Awd, price, reliability, durability, fun to drive, safe
Cons: mpg not in the 30's, could have more power, luxury (no leather, no nav)
I purchased the car in late 2000. Brand new, 107 miles, with added security system as the only option. 108k later I'm still in love with the car. The car comes with just about everything one could possibly need:
am/fm/cd/tape
power doors & windows
AC
Moonroof
Cruise control
Awd
seating for 4
As for reliability, I haven't had to do more then regular maintenance, and I don't drive the car like a grandpa either.
The car is just plain fun to drive. Yes, there are newer, faster, cars out there, but this one is a rare gem.

I average about 26 mpg mixed hw and city, and have for the life of the car.
