Pros: A lot of car for the price/180 horsepower out of a 4 cylinder!!/6 speed transmission Cons: small back seat The Bottom Line: Great car for a great price. Excellent candidate for that guy or girl looking to build a competitive street racer, or just as a daily driver.
OK....so you want a sports car that looks great and performs like a dream, but you don't want to spend a fortune? Well my friend, your prayers have been answered! The new Toyota Celica GTS is all that and a bag of chips.

Pros: Eye catching styling with quick and responsive handling in an affordable package Cons: Power is a little light for this class of car. Somewhat noisy at higher speeds The Bottom Line: A sharp car which will draw attention anywhere you go. Sporty, well-built and comfortable. However, competitors' are offering cars which closely match/beat the features at this price point.
I bought the Toyota Celica in May 2001. At the time, I managed to get an amazing 3.7% financing rate and $1400 cdn off the invoice price of the car. What attracted me to this model is the same thing that has me smiling when I drive it today - cutting ...

Pros: styling, peppy acceleration Cons: poor paint job, no trunk space, poor back seats, high auto insurance The Bottom Line: I would buy one if you really want a sports car. Buying a car with more room means value in the long run.
This is a vehicle that commands attention. It doesn't get it because it's a Toyota. I have owned this vehicle for three years now and have decided it's time to sell it. My praises for this car 1) The styling is on of the most eye catching on ...

Pros: reliability, nimble handling, awesome styling, fuel economy Cons: non-existent low end torque, not good for stick shift newbies, not much power, blind zones The Bottom Line: If you can accustom yourself to the clutch and don't mind the lack of sports car power, I strongly recommend it. It's fun to drive, and good on gas.
I recently had an opportunity to test drive a 2001 Toyota Celica GT, and it was a mixed experience overall. Like the Mitsubishi Eclipse, you have the fighter plane cockpit feeling when sitting behind the wheel of the Celica. This is a pro as far as ...

Pros: Style, price, handling, breaking. Cons: Rear viewing. The Bottom Line: If you are looking for an economical, fun-to-drive, reliable, competitively-priced sporty vehicle, you need to take a serious look at the Toyota Celica.
For years (decades, actually), I have wanted a sports car. While I was helping to raise a family, that was out of the question. Now that we are "empty nesters," it became a possibility again. I read a lot of articles and test drove a number of cars...

I recently purchased my 2001 Celica and am extremely happy with my choice. The car's performance certainly exceeds my expectations overall. It handles very well and what's not to like about 35 mpg on the highway? I took a 400 mile round trip shortly...

Pros: Futuristic styling, causes head-turns by on-lookers, tight engineering Cons: Slightly underpowered, jittery ride, low driver's seat The Bottom Line: The Celica just got passed by Acura and VW in the small car sport category, on power alone. But this car remains a stylish choice.
I purchased the 2001 Celica GT in June, 2001, after driving a '98 Corolla and, previously, a '91 Corolla. As expected, the Toyota engineering is flawless. The car is tightly designed and nothing rattles. The cornering is very flat for a car of this price...

Not Reliable
by california07

Author's Product Rating:

Pros: Fun to drive! Cons: questionable transmission reliability, catalytic converter reliability and oil consumption.
I bought the 2001 Toyota Celica GT as a Certified Toyota Vehicle at 43K miles. I drive a considerable amount of highway miles and chose the car because of Toyota's reputation for reliability. At 80K, the catalytic converter failed and was replaced. At 82K, the manual 5 speed transmission failed, requiring replacement which Toyota would not cover under warranty. Apparently when I bought the car in September 2005, the Toyota Certified warranty was for 6 years from original purchase or 100K miles. In October 2005, Toyota changed the warranty to 7 years/100K. The transmission (a $3500 item) failed in year 6 by 19 days. If I bought the car two weeks after I did, it would have been covered.
Toyota - their service and support is awful, and I'm beginning to seriously question their hard earned reputation for reliability. I have had 7 Toyota over 35 years, and this car is by far the worst Toyota I've owned. Add to it a cavalier and rude method of treating a loyal long-term customer - I'm saddened by that, and think Toyota should be ashamed.

Sexy, Fun, an Excitement to Drive Everyday!

Pros: It's sexy, reliable, and most of all.. FUN to drive! Cons: Don't try to make anyone over 5'6" sit in the backseats!
I've had this car since 2001 and I've loved it since 2001! The aerodynamic shape of the car looks sexy, sleek, and fast! The Celica has great suspension, meaning no worries about taking fast, sharp turns! I was also amazed with the quality of the sound system in the car!
The gas mileage is good. I have to admit, although I am not driving a gas eating machine it is still not as good as the previous car I owned. But what the heck, this car looks good, sounds good, and it's reliable!
For some reason, I can't help but step the petal to the metal and speed off as if in a race, while hoping I won't get pulled over by a police officer!

He loved the idea of how fast it would accelerate.
It's great car for a teenage guy/girl. We got sick of it cause we could never have any passengers in the back.
Road trips were terrible with it.
I'm glad we sold it, but I do miss it sometimes.

Pros: Cute, sporty and good on gas. Cons: Poor visibility out of the back, limited back seat space and a somewhat noisy ride!
My 2001 Celica has been very reliable. All that it's needed is regular maintenance and a few adjustments. It looks stylish and runs great. The back is a little cramped but the driver's area has enough space for me. However, despite the minor cons I have mentioned, I wish they still made them!
