Pros: Excellent fuel mileage, great price, large size Cons: Poor engine performance, handling is terrible on the highway, bumpy ride The Bottom Line: I would only recommend this car if you work as a delivery or taxi driver and use it for a high city mileage and highway performance is not a neccessity.
The 2001 Toyota Echo is not for the motion sick, but if large size at a good value is what you desire, here's your match. Here are my personal ratings of the 2001 Toyota Echo based on my 3-day rental a couple weekends ago. I rented the...

Pros: Cheap to buy and fuel efficient Cons: Have you ever seen an uglier car? The Bottom Line: Fuel efficient, low price to purchase, if you don't mind driving an ugly car around town.
I recently got a job working for a rental car company. The Toyota Echo is one the the cars that they have available for rent. I do not have a lot of experience driving the car, but I do know a lot about the features, etc. But in this case there is no...

Pros: Price, efficient engine, space, visibility, gas mileage. Cons: Not enough power options. The Bottom Line: High quality, safe, efficient and roomy for an economy car.
When I first saw the ECHO in 1999 as a new model for 2000, I was shocked by it, not sure about the styling and never considered it a choice for my next new car. I have had an ECHO for 5 months now and like the car a lot. I have had some interesting...

Pros: 34 city, 41 hwy, roomy and zoomy, not a cookie cutter style Cons: high center of gravity, no tachometer or power windows The Bottom Line: If you want a new, reliable, fun to drive car, and you don't mind paying for a Toyota badge, this is your best bet.
This review is based on my research and test driving of a new 2001 Toyota Echo. I wound up not buying the car, but I thought the car was great. Here's why:
INTERIOR
This car has a very refreshing appearance. It has a high roofline, so...

Pros: Good ride for a car this size.
Toyota reputation for quality and safety Cons: Seat Belt door anchor not height-adjustable on 2-dr model (4-dr only) The Bottom Line: A good small car. If you're single, and just want the basics for zipping around town and freeway, this is the ideal vehicle...
Well, I'm a single person, no kids. And I make a lot of small trips, going house-to-house in my capacity as a music teacher. I searched over a year for my next car, one that was affordable (under $12k) and would give good gas mileage. And as a larger...

Pros: great handling, amazing gas mileage, comfortable ride Cons: noisy, could use more pickup and power options The Bottom Line: This is a great, economical car that's worth driving for the gas mileage alone. The fact that it handles like a dream is just gravy.
I drive a silver 2001 Toyota Echo (I am NOT going to call it an ECHO). I bought it used, but it's still the newest car I've ever owned. It had less than 25,000 miles on it when I bought it at CarMax.
Overall, I would have to say that I'm very...

Pros: Excellent mileage, large trunk, fun to drive. Cons: Odd instrument placement, some visibility issues. The Bottom Line: If you need a rental for a few days, the Echo is a capable and economical little car.
Living in a small city on a small island with a top-notch public transporation system, we usually get by without a car. Occasionally, though - one weekend a month at most - we rent one for 2 or 3 days. This costs much less than actually owning one...

Pros: Styling, inexpensive, stereo system. Cons: Handling, tire size, safety issues. The Bottom Line: Inexpensive car for those on a really tight budget. Safety and handling issues should be carefully reviewed. Small tires are worrisome.
Have you looked at the size of the tires on this car? They are small! So tiny, that while test driving the Echo I felt each bump in the road, each wind blast, and feared that each quick turn would by my last. This is a car with untraditional styling...

Pros: 1. Gas mileage.
2. Headroom
3. Sound system
4. Everything is within reach. Cons: 1. Bumpy ride.
2. Slow to pick-up speed.
3. Cost of parts. The Bottom Line: I love it! Great car for the money and very little depreciation, though I wouldn't recommend it for someone that does a lot of long trips.
THE PURCHASE: I went looking for a vehicle last Christmas. My husband told me he was buying it for me. I had about $6,000.00 to spend. The Echo was listed as a private sale in our local newspaper. It had 66,000 miles with an automatic ...

Pros: Great fuel economy, very spiffy city driver, very reliable (built in Japan). Cons: Cheap interior, not so good highway handling in windy situations. The Bottom Line: Excellent city driver. Very reliable and fun to drive.
I got my ECHO used with 20.000 miles on it. It has been performing great since I got it (now 30.000 miles) and I have taken good care of it. Although this is the cheapest vehicle offered by toyota this car has the VVT-i technology which makes it a great ...

Pros: Mileage
Cheap
Not too bad in snow (with winter tires) Cons: Unstable on windy highways
Poor frontal and rear visibility
Weak engine
Uncomfortable seats
The Bottom Line: This is a dependable and economical car for the people on a very tight budget contending with the daily grind. It's a Toyota.
I've had this car for 4.5 years. It has been very good for commuting to work ten-twenty minutes away. I quickly learned however, that snow tires would be an absolute necessity where I live in Nova Scotia, Canada after the first winter. It has ...

Pros: Excellent Fuel Economy (45 MPG), Comfortable Seats, Very Responsive Handling Cons: Kid gloves required, else clutch could go early.... The Bottom Line: Highly recommended.
I bought a 2001 Toyota Echo back in March of '06 and little did I know at the time that I had found a diamond in the rough. After almost purchasing a 2003 Honda Civic for $4000 more, I feel so relieved that I opted for the much less expensive Echo. ...

Pros: Terrific gas mileage, roomy, short turn radius Cons: Some desired options not available The Bottom Line: The finest little, well made, commuter car available in the US today.
In May 2001, my wife and I toured Europe and fell in love with the Mercedes/Swatch Smart Car. Alas, SUV loving, gas gobbling Americans don't want anything as small and practical as the Smart Car, so one can't be had in the USA. However, not long after...

Pros: Cute, great gas mileage, roomy Cons: A little loud and bumpy The Bottom Line: I'd recommend this to anyone who hasn't been spoiled with a far more powerful, expensive car.
I bought this car a month ago. Since then, I've made two round trips from San Francisco to LA with no problems. It's really lightweight (...good gas mileage), so it's a little dicey when it gets windy out. It is also a little loud and the ride is a...

We purchased the 2001 Toyota Echo for a family car back in 2001, we haven't had any problems with it.
Other than the fuel light being easy to miss, the rest of the car is Fantastic!!!
I have 2 kids the 2 car-seats fit perfectly in the...
