Pros: smooth ride, comfortable Cons: price The Bottom Line: If you are in the market for a SUV check out what Toyota has to offer in the Highlander
This is my first auto review so bare with me as cars are not really my thing. As long as it has gas in it, gets me where I want to go and looks decent, has always been my philosophy on automobiles.
We had the chance to take a 2001 Toyota...

Pros: Cheaper than RX300, good expected reliability, cargo space, seats, smooth V6 Cons: Interior looks cheap, slow 4-cylinder model, RX300 looks more upscale The Bottom Line: The Highlander is a good alternative to Lexus RX300, it is less expensive and has more cargo space.
The Toyota Highlander can be considered as a cheaper alternative to the Lexus RX300 – both of them use the Camry’s platform, share 220 hp 3.0 liter V6 engine (2.4 liter 155 hp inline-4 is standard on Highlander), auto transmission, gas...

Pros: Handles great, the price is right, not many design flaws
Cons: It's an SUV - We're all destroying the earth one mile at a time. The Bottom Line: It's powerful, roomy, handles well, is family friendly, and was relatively affordable.
Every car I've ever had, have been German sport coupes. With the arrival of a second child and the resultant need for a more practical family car, my wife and I started shopping for an on-the-road SUV (no minivans here!). There's quite a selection...

Pros: , passenger/cargo room, highway mpg, car-like ride/handling, adjustable rear seats, 360 degree visibility Cons: Flimsy interior plastic touches, rough ride over bumps, tinny JBL audio, starting to rattle inside The Bottom Line: The wait is over for middle income folks like myself who want a luxury car-like handling SUV, yet can't afford the $34k+ models.
As of July 2001, Toyota dealers are ready to deal. I got $3,100 off the $33,709 sticker (paid $30,598 with side airbags, 3-in-1 6-disc combo, leather, limited and tow prep packages, vehicle skid control, center console, cargo liner, carpet mats and trunk...

Pros: Smooth & quiet V6; car-like ride and handling; Toyota quality Cons: Most options come bundled in packages; back seat a little low The Bottom Line: For those who go off-road, get the 4Runner. For everyone else, the Highlander gives you 95% of the Lexus RX300 for thousands less.
When I started my search for a new car three months ago, I started with the Toyota 4Runner. I liked its aggressive appearance, great-sounding V6 engine, and bullet-proof reputation. I was less than impressed with the interior design (the interior door...

Pros: Cooler-looking than a minivan with Toyota quality and reliability Cons: Kind of expensive compared to other manufacturers' offerings The Bottom Line: A great alternative to a minivan for hauling the baby and all her stuff!
I have always been a small sporty-car person. I never got into the whole sport-utility vehicle thing, preferring instead to drive cars that got more than 15 mpg, could accelerate to freeway speed in under 20 seconds, and were easy to parallel park. Then...

Pros: Style, Headroom and Legroom, Very Comfortable Rear Seats, Good Mileage Cons: Update, no longer hard to find, needs more storage for the driver, expensive The Bottom Line: I shopped around a lot, the significant premium in price vs. the competition melted away when I saw the warranty coverage, its a great brand. Update, deals abound now!
Other considered were the Honda CRV, Jeep Liberty, Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7, and the Ford/Mazda twins. The Honda was fine, but the styling was on the bland side. I liked the manual transmission on the CRV, which is not available on the Highlander. ...

Pros: Smooth, quiet ride. Great looks. Flat floor. Full size spare on "real" rim. Cons: Wind noise. 105mph speed limiter. Cruise control and high beam stalks. Small cupholders. The Bottom Line: This is a great ride if you do not like to drive fast but speed freaks should opt for the Acura MDX or BMW X5.
I leased this vehicle new right after it was introduced and has turned out to be one of the best vehicles that I have ever owned. It rides great, gets decent gas mileage and has a great stereo system. The interior is nice and the seats very comfortable....

Pros: Better than the Lexus, car-like drive, big suv service Cons: It's a toyota with no brand name panache! The Bottom Line: Buy it cause it's the most suv for the money. Your only sacrifice is that you have to say you drive a toyota!
Really, I just sold my Land Rover and bought the Highlander because it drives better, is much more reliable, feels great, has more worthwhile features. I've never owned a toyota and never wanted to. I hate that I own a Toyota, except for one thing: it...

Pros: Great power (V6), Lots of Passenger Leg Room, Luxury Feel, Good Gas Mileage Cons: None yet! The Bottom Line: Reliable, fun car with lots of room for passengers and extra storage room. Sunroof, moonroof, drink holders, cruise control, cargo net in back, cover for back storage.
We purchased our Toyota Highlander back in May, 2001. Before visiting the Toyota lot, we did not know anything about the Highlander. In fact, we were informed the car was just released in March 2001 and marketing had not yet started! We are truly...

Pros: Drives like a car, transports like an SUV Cons: Some aspects of dealer service, 2 recalls in 1st year model The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend the Highlander for anyone who wants a lot of room, car-like handling, and doesn't need a 2nd back seat for kids!
I purchased my Highlander in April and have enjoyed it a great deal. It drives with the smoothness of a car, but transports like a sport ute and takes the beating of one too. After looking at many sport utes, the Highlander seemed like the perfect...

Pros: Nice ride; Not-too-small/not-too-big size; Toyota quality Cons: Driver area storage is poor; Personally, I don't like the headlights The Bottom Line: I like it -- it combines the best features of cars (ride/size) with those of trucks (cargo capacity/4wd/attitude). It's an updated station wagon and a real home run for Toyota.
I didn't want one but my girlfriend wanted it so. . . I am now the proud owner of a Toyota Highlander (all-wheel drive, V-6, all options).
I'm not a big fan of SUVs but I can live with the Highlander which is saying a lot. It's clearly going...

Pros: Comfortable seats, ample legroom, wood trim looks classier than BMW's wood trim Cons: Fairly weak engine, center console is too low, looks like a minivan The Bottom Line: If you don't need a powerhouse, but want an SUV that is comfortable and reliable, Highlander is the way to go.
SUV's have traditionally been built on truck chassis, meaning the ride is rougher and more bouncy. There are many models now that are built upon car chassis, with the Highlander being one of them.
We test drove this one during our search for...

Pros: Toyota quality and workmanship Cons: Base model is really basic...plan to spend more for options... The Bottom Line: Buy it but be prepared to spend some extra money for some "average" options. I wish I could get some better options for this price...
Finally the wait was over and I get to buy a Highlander for my wife. Driven both on highways and city. . Very roomy and comfortable for 5 adults, has nice luggage area, and a quiet interior.
I opted for base model, an I4, 2.4L, 155hp engine....

Pros: Nice kick with v6 engine. 220 horses more than enough. Smooth, quiet ride. Cons: Less storage room than expected. Cup holders in inconvenient location. The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a smooth, luxorious midsize SUV and are priced out of the Lexus, BMW, Mercedes range, this is your darling. Should be your darling either way.
The 2001 Highlander V6 220 horsepower is a stud of an SUV. A shockingly smooth, luxurious ride with acceleration to burn. Tachometer and speedometer look beautiful at night, and the automatic driver seat makes for a comfortable ride whether you are 4'7"...
