Less Dirty Than the Others

Recommended: Yes 
Pros: Hybrid technology, reasonable performance, agility, climate control, etc.
Cons: Will never win a tractor pull contest or drive up a flight of stairs.
Remembering that a "green" car still dumps the exhaust in the back where the driver, at least, can't smell it, my Prius keeps it to a minimum. The electric system provides some extra power when necessary, and Toyota filled it well with extras. I like the

Pros: For me, it's been a great car up to 91K
Cons: After 91K be prepared to take a $5K hit.
Up until now (91K) I have had no problems. I have kept my 2001 Prius well-maintained. However, last week I noticed a humming coming from the engine area. I brought it to a dealer in my area and it was diagnosed as a transmission failure. The cost:
